Lol I have to agree. After playing Disgaea 3 I was hesitant to purchase Disgaea 4,but once I did purchase it and saw the intro,I was instantly captured. So I decided to unlock post game content first with some bypass code I found online. So I unlocked the characters first,then went to time leap. After seeing the past,playing the main story made a lot more sense as I thought about how much was left unstated. So the main story was much more enjoyable. After reading comments,it was clear that not many people understood the point. It gets pretty simple,"A Promise Unforgotten". The main story makes it clear as well that the entire story revolves around Valvatorez and Artina,even though Artina did not reappear to the group for quite a bit of time. Her role was more fleshed out indirectly,which is hard for those who play for mechanics rather than story to spot out. On the first play through of the game. Got this ending,which is default/lover=Same thing. Follow the time leap,then the main story for everything to make sense. I saw twilight(more like forced to watch it with my mother -_-) I felt like committing double suicide-_- horrible movie in my opinion. So when I saw that this game had a vampire,nun,werewolf. I immediately thought back to the horrors of watching twilight -_-. Though well,all in all this game surpassed my expectations by a long shot. It was excellently done. Ignore Fuka/Desco and you can clearly see the main story. It revolves around in this order. Valvatorez and Fenrich's promise under the moon. It explains why Fenrich is so loyal to Valvatorez. Valvatorez risked his life to save Fenrich despite at the time Fenrich was trying to kill him but changed his role. Later on Valvatorez and Artina: it explains of a fearless nun who struck Valvatorez as peculiar. Feeling that humans should be afraid of demons. His pride forbid him from taking her blood until he instills fear into her. Though their relationship builds and is clearly scene if you once again ignore Fuka/Desco. I swear,those two characters should not have been in the game at all. Main story that is,save them for post game. Tragedy does not mix well with comedy. Only at certain points can comedy and tragedy be in sync.

This is the Default Ending. It is also the Ending that takes #1 priority in the Legendary Tree Relationships. All of these epilogues are canon, just that this one is the most important to Valvatorez.

Ah what a heartwarming ending there is no couple (Game or any) that I found as enjoyable as Valvatorez X Artina I may forget Disgaea in the many years to come but this scene shall be a speck left forever on my mind. That was kinda the point of it after Laharl became the overlord (minus Aramis, but... Forget that kid). Vulcanus (from 1) wanted the humans and demons to destroy themselves, planned to overthrow Seraph Lamington and become ruler of the universe (to ensure peace, but still).

Is it me or the Odd Numbered installments of Disgaea suggest a relationship between the protagonist &( a) heroine but the Even Numbered installments the Protagonist is basically already in a relationship by the ending or at least seemingly has feelings for the Heroine. This is the 4th main stream game but I think I noticed that...

The heartwarmingness of this moment is ruined by the fact that Artina is very clearly lying. This scene isn't a plot hole, but it doesn't make any sense if taken on the premise Artina is being completely honest. There were no signs whatsoever that Artina had despair during that sequence, firstly. Secondly, it would make no sense for her to do so- there was no point in which she plausibly could have thought him lost and fall into that kind of despair.

Valvatorez and Artina generally doesn't show it obvious for everyone to see. But a few cases you can tell that they love each other. This two are just a more mature type of couple than what is commonly seen in animes and games.

Carinthium It is just so obvious, the outburst of emotion when Artina fainted earlier on from Valvatorez, then Artina's not so obvious reaction for you. You seem to can't tell so you can take it that she's lying. it's just Valvatorez and Artina are simply meant for each other.

+Carinthium The Promise Revisited helps explain their relationship better. Evidently, the "promise" between them was really just a way for them to sexually foreplay and spend time together. A very blunt instance of this is Artina saying, and Valvatorez agreeing to, watching Artina in the shower in private so that he can continue to keep his promise about finding ways to scare her. Although, there was the genuine reason of keeping her safe from soldiers out to kill her, it's very clear that they're being very playful and romantic with each other.

I mean this game though it was pretty epic to have been a finale still opened up a new door to future concepts with the whole alien & Galactic Federation thing not being properly resolved. Plus the final battle isn't as epic as I expected. Granted this was the first time in a Disgaea game when the fate of both the Netherworld, Human World, & Celestia were at stake & the main characters challenged God. .........Also...Artina is hot-.-

Yep...you know it's real when someone denies it in the most ridiculous way possible -_-. Episode 10-6,shoulda thought out the speech heh. Well that aside. After playing time leap,I will not spoil anything. You will see why it was really unnecessary for Artina and Valvatorez to have character development much,since it was already there. Though I would say if they remade the game,adjusted some dialogues,and add in more insight to the main story past,then the game would be flawless. Though once playing the time leap,you would see why this ending makes sense in the end. Also it's default for those who don't know. All Disgaea games continues off of default endings. D1 Laharl dies>That's reflected in the rest of the games really. The good ending on that one just answers a bit more. D2 Adell and Rozalin,but that really is only expanded much on the post game side for them. D3 well this game is just messy,though Almalz and Sapphires development was good. Though it is not expanded on. They just show more on Mao,and Rasberyl with her two companions. All in all,D4 has a lot of potential for a part 2.

You don't see Lamington again after Disgaea 1 and in four Flonne is the Seraph, so what happened to him? If it continued off of the good ending, Lamington would have been there. If it continues off the bad ending, that would explain how Flonne eventually became the Seraph. Though Disgaea games continue off the default ending though in a sense I can see how it can continue off the Good Ending since it's technically the only game with a Good Ending, the rest has a default ending and alternate endings.

Edge Valmond Actually no. D1 does follow the good ending. In D4 during the netherworld tournament, if you defeat king krichevskoy he will mention something about a certain seraph allowing him to return to help hold the tournament. He mentions this in a manner that suggests he's known them for awhile and that he had come back a bit before the tournament was even created. Now this might either: A. Mean that he really was going under the guise of Vvyers during D1 and after that built up power to start the tournament. Plus based on the good ending of D1 he reveals himself as Laharls father so its not farfetched to believe he'd change his name and fix himself up to return to his former glory, rather than being mid boss. or B. We really don't know. It kind of makes sense for him to trick flonne into letting him get a nee body, since she's an idiot legitly. However, how he speaks about the seraph doesn't match up. Flonne mentions she's been through alot, but I doubt she'd think the quality of the netherworlds were deminishing(lmao unless she just wanted the king to demolish Axel lol). After all, Laharl and Etna are pretty normal. Plus, after it all ends, he considers simply fading. Usually in such a scene flonne would suddenly appear loud and proud, thanking him happily for helping her. It would have to be someone like Lamington who is just as observant(more like stalker) as flonne, but still intelligent. But its not like that. Plus also D1's normal ending would never fit, Laharl would not be able to revoke his sins in such a short time, given he's an actual jerk. Not that Etnas any better but he'd basically would have been a prinny forever. Heck, D2 confirms the good ending since they don't seem to mention him paying off his sins.

Oh yeah you're right, forgot about that. Some times following Disgaea's timeline can be a bit confusing. I think Disgaea 1 is really the only game that expanded so thoroughly. Disgaea 2 has a lot of holes, Disgaea 3 doesn't really give any insight to the past on Mao other than knowing how his father was killed and even that didn't bring in much good development. I think only Almalz and Sapphire had good development there and kinda disappointed they're not mentioned again. Disgaea 4 is the only other one that expands in depth. Valvatorez and Fenrich's past. Valvatorez and Artina's past(could have been done better if they just allowed the player to play through the timeline as Valvatorez during that time. Or as I said if they're gonna do a "what if" scenario, then Valvatorez from the present should have been sent back. Where he will realize that it was the war Artina was killed in. Pushing him to try and save her. Though ultimately he would choose not to realizing that the only reason she is still alive in the future is because she died then. Which would be a difficult decision for him to make, but will let his past self repent for all the sins he had made. That would have been a better scenario to play out personally. Though anyway I still think D2 needs a part 2, it just doesn't feel complete with so many plot holes. Oh before I forget, yeah...Fenrich is gay lol. If you translate Naked Requiem which is sung from his point of view, you'll see and everything makes so much sense after that point. Clever devs disguising that triangle.

well... losing to her would get the bad 'vilcanus' ending... it still count as an ending... but thats just a very fancy way of saying 'game over' i like this ending the most. it fits with the story the most, dont you agree? "a promise unforgotten" indeed GJ nippon ichi! oh, gj to you too mr.uploader, seriously, watching people's walkthrough of disgaea 4 is just too boring... and tedious considering i want to see the story primarily. Disgaea is a game to be played, not watched...
