I’m a Texan. I’m outraged. Can’t stand Abbott. Being Texan is so goddamn frustrating. We have four of the largest metro areas in the US, including #4 and #5. Our metro areas are some of the most diverse in the country (with Houston being the most diverse I believe). We are a majority minority state. Our economy is great. We should be a shining example of moderatism. Instead we are held captive by this MAGA state government. This goddamn state is at war with itself.

💯💯💯💯💯💯 4th gen native Texan who is still broken from 78% of my rural county voting for more cruelty last midterm. I agree with every single point you just made. We are held captive by the GOP. We are THE hardest state to vote in thanks to thirty years of GOP fvckery. We have to register by mail only, using a paper form you can only get from a post office or the Sec of State, and it has to be submitted no less than 30 days before you can vote. No vote-by-mail unless you are over 60 or can prove you will be out of the county on voting day and all of early voting. Voter roll purges are common, especially for people using po boxes like me. And they keep passing more laws tailor made for suppressing blue votes. Like ONE ballot drop box for ALL of Houston?!?! And when that didn't get the results they wanted, they passed a law in the lege to give them the right to "take over" any city's elections so long as the city is over 2 million people. Houston is the ONLY city that fits that. But of course. You'd think the rest of the country would understand the predicament us blue Texans are in and help us, or at least not btch at us for not "voting harder" or some such shit. But nope. They'd rather sit in their safely blue states and blame us victims. *sigh* Makes me want to cry. Seriously. It broke me last midterms and I'm just NOW getting to where I can bring myself to think about voting again.

As a life long Texan, registered Republican voter since 1978 until 2016 and an Austin resident we watched and experienced so much hate, racism, bigotry, from the Republican leaders of the state I love so much. From the massacre in Uvalde, the freeze, covid, George Floyd protest, the brown hate of fellow humans at our boarders, the protests at our universities being demonized today. Our republican governor just pardoned a convicted murderer. At the same time is willing to arrest women seeking health care. The US Military justice system must intervene and start proceedings against the former Army Sergeant using the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). UCMJ charges must be brought- and federal charges are possible due to this being a possible hate crime. There is both military and federal legal standing here.
