My real first video on youtube. Just a quick overview of the New Hopper with sling from Dish Network. I go over the guide and some of the menus. Hope you enjoy.

I had DIRECTV for 81/12 years 9/30/13 - 4/16/22 I’m legally blind since I was born, it’s hard for me to see small font.” DIRECTV didn’t have the magnification feature, on the other hand dish offers the magnification feature PLUS!! The remote locater feature. This feature comes handy for me, the remote is the same cilor as my recliner. I have in my room, I love the hopper whole home DVR!!! I can enable the magnification feature.” With the right bottom diamond button my my new dish remote, I had to replace my old dish remote, it was a 54.1 model it had the backlight buttons. So does my new dish remote its model is 54.3 I can easily see the buttons in the dark!!!! I subscribed and liked the video and enabled notifications. I Love You!!!🫶🏻🤗🤗🤗

Correction. Directv does have Picture in Picture. They have 1TB on the genie not 500gb. It has 5 tuners not 4.

Tim yes I still have it and have had no issues. I had TWC and tgey are horrible. I suggest you switch.

Is there an extra monthly charge to have another hopper as one will not work for my wife and I.We sometimes record more than 3 channels on sat feed at night.also the 3rd tuner for network feed does not record the WB network.That is why we have 2 dvr's now.That gives us 4 tuners to record on.

What the functions will the room with the Joey "not" have compared to the room with the Hopper?

They Have all the same functions of the Hopper receiver. You can pause live TV, Rewind, etc. You can access any recordings from the Hopper. I have Two Hoppers hooked up to my home network, So I can record different shows on each Hopper and access them from any Hopper or joey in the home. This Also expands my recording space!

The thing I hate about dish, is when the storm pops up from out of nowhere and then when it happen, it automatically messes up. But don't get me wrong about dish is not that bad at all.

How is the Dish or Direct TV when you get a storm? Do you lose picture? I had dish many many years ago and used to lose signal when any thunderstorm came up. I had heard they supposedly fixed that?? True not True???

Luis, I guess really it has to do with the position of the dish and how often it updates. I have my receiver hooked up to the Ethernet and phone line, so not sure if that has anything to do with it. check your connections and update the software. Hope that helps!

Thanks for this, Rodger. The one thing I hate about AT&T U-Verse is the guide. You can't get to your favorite channels easily and it doesn't save your favorites list if you want to use the up/down buttons to see what is on the next channel in the favorites list you're currently viewing, you have to hit Menu, down button 4 times to get to Favorites, then down again to select the favorites list you want, then select, then down again, then enter. All accomplished with just one down click with DISH while still viewing the show you're watching. I love the Hopper with sling so you can watch live AND recorded stuff online (my kids don't have tv's in their room, but they have laptops or ipads, so that keeps me from having to buy more Joey's/TV's for their rooms) Also, the recording of all PrimeTime TV is awesome. This is where UVerse really sucks. We have 6 people in our house and they all want to watch something different, live or recorded at the same time and if you are recording 4 shows at once, you can only watch recorded TV, or if 2 HD shows are being recorded, you can't watch a live HD show. Very frustrating. I loved DISH when i had it years ago, was OK with DirecTV but went to UVerse because of their faster internet and bundled pricing. Now, I'm going back to DISH. I've missed it ever since I switched.

I am jettisoning my 3 tivo Roamios at 15.00 a month using cable-cards from comcast xfinity. I am guessing I will save about 30.00 a month. Comcast is not delivering HBO and showtime reliably and give me the runaround when I call to ask them to fix. So I am trying Dish. I signed up for install this Saturday. How do I get that free ipad deal?

Tara, the Blockbuster at home when I got it, came with a DVD a month from blockbuster, when they were in Business, so it wasnt to bad, I still have it, only for the Blockbuster on demand, feature and the two other stations, including EPIX. So to me its OK, I would like if Blockbuster was still in business to benefit better from it, however know its more of just a station upgrade for 10 bucks a month extra, so if you are not a big movie watcher and dont care to have the Blockbuster Channel and Epix, I would stick with the what ever package you are used to. Does that Help?

You say you have two hoppers? Is that a different set up than having one hopper and a Joey?

No I have a Hopper receiver in my Family Room Connected to One Joey in my front Living Room, I have a second Hopper Connected in my Master Bedroom connected to Two Joeys in each of my kids room. The Joeys in the other rooms take up a tuner So If I am watching tv in my master bedroom and each of my kids are watching tv in their rooms (Which rarely happens at the same time) All the Hopper Tuners are used. But I also can connect to my Family room hopper to access any of the recordings on that one. So if I want to watch the same show being watched by one of my kids, or they are watching a recorded show, that counts as one tuner leaving one open for anything that may be recorded. Does that make sense? IF not let me know and I will explain in further detail.

The DirecTV Genie does have 5 tuners and 1tb of memory. They also have the GenieGO which is just like the Dish Sling adapter but my GenieGO will also let me download my recordings that are on my Genie's Hard drive to my laptop so that I can watch them even without an internet connection. I have an HR 34 which is one of the first Genie models. The newest Genie model is the HR 44.

Brittney Anderson yes and have had no problems, as well as when anything as small as a remote stopped working, I was sent a new one without being charged, which I can not say the same for Directv. When my remote broke with Directv, they wanted to charge me $25 for a replacement. Dish Sent me a new one no problem!

S Howard I live in South Texas so our storms may not be as severe as most but I have only lost signal for 1 min when it was pouring down hard. The key to signal loss is installation. If the dish is able to move in the wind you will lose signal everytime. If its mounted correctly and tight you should nit have an issue. Cant speak for snow however

@greenhaven I am still satisfied with Dish. The Hopper is a much more advanced receiver tham the 722. If you have been a long time customer of Dish than you will appreciate the upgrade.

Rodger Clark Hey I'm switching to Dish in a week, and before they come out i been trying to find out if this "loss of signal" is a real thing when it comes to cloudy days or bad weather. It's pretty much the only thing that is making me second guess switching. I been with my current cable company for 15+years and have a good relationship with them. However DISH channels for the price is 45-60 dollars cheaper. Any input would help. Im in TEXAS so our weather is mostly HOT and stormy during certain months. Look forward to the info. thanks!

Knight, there is an extra charge to have an additional hopper but no more than a receiver fee and will allow to record shows specifically to that hopper and still be able to watch those show through your other hopper as long as it is connected to your home network. Each hopper will support 3 Joey I have one hopper sling in my main living room connected to 1joey in the game room. Upstairs I have a regular hopper w/o sling as you can only have one sling hopper connected to 2 rooms with Joey

This is what happen to me I order hopper with four joys and what happen is that they all link together, so my kids can know what i was watching, that really was a totaly turn down for me because my kids dont need to know what am watching.

Get Two Hoppers and Link their Rooms to one that is not your main hopper where you watch whatever it is you don't want your kids to know you watch. If you have Four Joeys, I take it you have 4 bedrooms, or at least 4 rooms, Get one hopper as your main and one for another room to link the joeys on. Or just don't watch things that are unsavory. lol. The only time your kids will know what you watch is what every you download/record, or if they are trying to watch tv and need to access a tuner. Now you only have 3 tuners in the Hopper so that Means One is Dedicated to Primetime anytime if you have that active, and then two additional to watch tv. So you can only have 3 tvs on if recording.

I have a question.. Say I have primetime anytime turned off. Can I still record say 5/6 shows at a time? I've yet to hear an answer about that. also when you choose to record a show/series can you choose for it to record only first run shows, and does it allow you to end the show like 15 minutes later? Also if whatever you record on the joey will those programs be on the hopper and vice versa?

+pink10469 yes you should, with prime time anytime turned off that opens up that tuner to record more shows. and yes if you go into the settings it will give you the option to only record first run shows and if you want to record more or less. hope that helps.

Slight correction to RJ. As I read it, Prime Time takes away one of the 6 channels. So 5 with Prime Time, 6 without.

Im thinking of getting a Hopper and one joey for my bedroom. Can i have cable tv in my childrens rooms without using two more joey's? Im trying to save money on the joey costs. I know they charge about $7 for each joey.

Oscar, It sounds as if your internet and not the equipment is the issue. The apps will not work if you haveva bad network connection. The Joeys woek off your home network. Before blaming the equipment make sure your fully connected to your home network. Best of luck.

Jason are you possitive on this. I know several people who have it and tell me otherwise. I had Directv Turner that was below tge Genie and was only 500gb. However the Genie may have 1tb it does not have 5 tuners and as far as I know does not support the PIP like dish. If you have supported documents or information please share.

Hi Rodger, Thanks for posting this informative video of the Hopper. I really enjoyed your overview of its features. I've been with Dish for about 10 yrs now and very happy with their service. I currently have a VIP 722. I'm thinking about upgrading to the Hopper. I've been holding off since Dish introduced it, as I noticed people on forums complaining about it being plagued with bugs. Of course, that was a little over a year ago. You posted this vid about 10 months ago. How is the Hopper performing and are you still happy with it? Thank you.

Oh and Dish doesn't have the same sports packs or even remotely the same sports channels in SD or HD. Where is all your NY sports on dish? How about your full time RSNS in HD? How about your NFL ST? So dish has a couple Nitch college sports channels like Pac12. Big deal!! Dish has 13.8 million. Customers and going backwards every quarter. Directv has 20.4 million and adding customers. Again tell the truth.

Nope I don't work for directv, But obviously you work for dish. Again let's see your facts about Directv's dropped channels. Dish is number one in channel disputes since 2007 when the dropped all the Voom channels.

No I don't work for Dish either, I have had both services and Directv will Charge you for everything, if you upgrade they will lock you into another contract. Directv spends millions on advertising due to the horrible customer attrition rate, They are more expensive and once again lie and charge for anything they can.
