I’ve learned a little trick for projects like this when I am folding fabric for a hem. It can be hard to get that fold straight and a consistent length on the edge as you try and fold while ironing. So after getting frustrated one day I saw a piece of poster board I had for another project. Well I grabbed it and drew a line with my ruler so I would have a measure on it for the length I was aiming for. Then I laid it on the fabric and used it for a straight edge to fold with! Even while ironing the board stayed rigid and my lines were so nice. I suspect it would also support the weave more so you wouldn’t have problems with stretching and distortion.

I love your video! This helped me know what do with my first project which was also a towel. I laughed when you commented that it took forever to warp the loom! I put together a little table loom I bought in October which isn’t very wide. I was so nervous about making a mistake during warping that I took like three months to finally get the warp on it. trying to convert different patterns to my narrow loom, which is only 12 inches wide, has been very difficult. I only have a 10 dent beater bar. my stripes csme out all off-center and but they’re a pretty color so I’m satisfied With my first tiny towel! thank you so much for all the introduction information you gave too. I love your voice and the simple way that you explain things and now I am encouraged to try doing a longer warp and figuring out where to go to try to convert different patterns to fit on my loom. Or maybe I should sew projects together to make wider pieces? I’m not sure. Thanks for all the tips that you gave and the excellent camera work that showed me exactly what I needed to know about taking the threads off the loom. That was really important for me because I was nervous about messing it up, as well as the sewing part. Happy new year! I wish I knew how to share pictures in this comment. Oh and how did you get your selvages to be so perfect? Going slow?

Those really turned out nicely! I love handwoven towels....and knitted dish clothes...if you HAVE to do dishes, may as well have something special to do them with. I finish mine by pressing the hem seams...think it gives them a nice clean edge for sewing. Those will last eons, provided someone (who will remain nameless but knows who he is) doesn't wipe up a spilled bottle of tabasco sauce with them! Another source for weaving supplies is the Yarn Barn in Lawrence, KS. That's a very dangerous (to my wallet) place to visit, and they also have a drool worthy catalog, along with fiber/yarn sample cards. Love your videos...keep 'em coming!

Very nice Towels. I just bought a loom and plan on doing towel first to get used to it. Very helpful video. :) Just an idea,...maybe before cutting, it might be a good to baste your raw edges. Then if you do 2 rows of basting stitches about 1/2" apart where you're going to cut, it will help with the fraying so you don't have to worry so much while you're cutting them.

Hi! I really like your towels! A suggestion so you don't have to worry that your project might come apart: just like you weave a header at the beginning of the project (to spread the threads apart evenly) weave a footer with scrap yarn to hold the weft in. When you're ready to sew, take the footer out. This way no worries!
@mtnmonamona8425 жыл бұрын
I love that you make cutting the fabric look so easy and not anxious at all! You don't layer paper while rolling on your front beam?
@FiberLoveDiary5 жыл бұрын
I only layer paper at the beginning to make sure it starts out without lumps over the warp knots. If you get lumps, over time it changes the tension of the warp and that's not good at all! Its not scary either. I can always weave more and that's fun, right?

@FiberLoveDiary5 жыл бұрын
I don't mind at all. At first I thought I should have bought the biggest one (I think it's 48") but now I think it would be too big. BUT bear in mind, i'm 5'10", so that means I have long arms, legs, everything. I've been thinking about using it to do the double width soon. I'll make sure I get a bit of footage so you can see, because that will be the full width of the loom.

Yes, I am fortunate that my guy "gets me". I forgot to ask if you thought this was doable on a 24" loom? Mine is a Majacraft mixed heddle loom. Of course I will be ordering the full smaller dents I would need, in order to weave towels. You mentioned 12.5, I think the smallest I could order were 10?? @@FiberLoveDiary
@FiberLoveDiary5 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you could do it on a 24. I think I misspoke on my warp ends. I had 275, which comes out to be 22" of warp, so you could do it. On the heddle subject, I suspect you might want to use a 4/2 instead of an 8/2, but then no doubling. I think that's what I'd try. If I had some 4/2, I would do a sample and see, but I don't think I do. Have FUN. I really enjoyed weaving them, even though weaving six got a bit boring at the end ;)
