@alicekelly4975

I love your dishcloths, love coral too, I may or may not have a bunch of that color in my stash. ☺️ I’m a new weaver and I tried making dish towels in Christmas colors, thinking they would make great gifts. Ha ha ha, that warp was a total disaster, so I just wove the whole warp as one, hemstitched it and cut it off the loom. I just cut the fringe short on both ends and washed it. The weaving and edges look awful, but it makes a great keep in the car towel and that sucker has been through the wash numerous times and it holds up. 👍 I’m interested in your warping tool, going to look around my house, at where I could clamp it before I inquire about a preorder. I was going to get a 2nd warping peg but whoa, that thing is way cool.
@FiberLoveDiary
@FiberLoveDiary 4 жыл бұрын
I had a warp like that once. It's on video for all to see if you go back far enough 😂. I just figure if I learned a lot, it was worth it. I mostly learned from KZbin with some advice from local weavers so I'm not going to get it all perfect. I am just happy most of it looks pretty presentable now.

I think I've watched this one twice now and just heard what you said at the end. Weaving has been extremely frustrating for me. Knitting, sewing, dyeing and spinning have all come quickly. This is testing me! I did buy your warp bar which has helped SO MUCH, but last night, I had a horrible fail. There goes 1/2 cone of Mallo. But my husband reminded me that it's these things that will make me better. Lesson learned indeed. I just ordered some drafting sheets.

Fantastic video for a beginner to watch! Just what I was looking for in terms of hemming since I don't like bulky hems either! I can see how you hem stitch, but how to do you make the line of separation from one towel from the next? Do you end one towel, move up a little bit, weave a little and then hem stitch that in place? How do you get it straight?
@FiberLoveDiary
@FiberLoveDiary 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I hope it helps. When I beat the first pick of a new cloth, I just leave a space. Then when I hem stitch, I sort of pull up just a tiny bit when i'm tightening the stitches. I think practice just makes it straight, but you could use the edge of a shuttle or something to help keep it straight.

I made my first set of towels on my RHL (yay!) - combining white with a blue/green (I think it was the same color as the washcloth you showed) all the white turned light blue when I washed them :( Any tips would be appreciated.

I haven't noticed much bleeding at all, but I have seen a ton of comments about it in weaving groups lately. I have noticed that they fade fairly quickly. I haven't really even delved that much into the recommended fixes. Sorry I am not more help!

You would make little ones on a 16" loom, but I would personally like them to be more like 20 inches wide (on the loom. They will shrink) So I would want a 24" loom for the size I like. Hope that made sense!

Hi, Ann! You can email me at neverendingknitnight@gmail.com. They will be ready to ship May 25th and will be $110 USD each. They're made locally for us at a woodworking shop so we are able to oversee production. Right now they are 36" long only, so you will have plenty of space. And if you ever go to a larger loom, it can expand with you!

Hello, your warping tool is a fantastic idea! I've been clamping a paper towel holder onto my kitchen table, but that seems so much better! I noticed you didn't pull on the yarn at all, does the warping bar keep enough tension on the yarn so that you don't have to? Also, just curious about what you are using to wrap the yarn with? Is that something that is sold publicly? thanks so much for sharing your skills!!
@FiberLoveDiary

That tool has completely stopped me from procrastinating on warping new projects. I'm not sure what you are asking, but the bar is beveled inside, so once you screw it together, it is not just clamped, but clamped down in a V shape to help hold the tension. I honestly just freaking love it. We just sourced them and placed our first order, so if you think you might want one, email me at neverendingknitnight@gmail.com. We are down to our last couple that don't have deposits. Thank you! It is pretty exciting!

Thank you for the video. I really want to do washcloths as my next project. What DENT heddle did you use, and how many warp ends? What is the approx length of each dishcloth when still on the loom? What were the finished dimensions after washing?
@FiberLoveDiary
@FiberLoveDiary 4 жыл бұрын
I used a 7.5 DPI heddle with 106 warp ends. I believe they were 13 inches long under tension, but I know I mentioned it in the video. The waffle weave one had the most shrinkage, but the rest are about 11 inches long now.

Love your channel, you are fun to watch😊 I'm going to try these dishcloths for sure. Does anyone know if the hem stitch is efficient enough or do they need the added zigzag sewing machine stitch?
@FiberLoveDiary
@FiberLoveDiary 3 жыл бұрын
I can't answer, because I don't trust just the hem stitch. That's really because it will be washed over and over. I would trust it on something that wasn't washed as much. I will say these cloths have held up perfectly so far.

Thank you so much for a wonderful video, I am so inspired but have been put on yarn buying lockdown😁 otherwise I would be buying cones of art and omg that coral...I do a similar style of finishing and so far so good, I really like the fuzzy edges. You use all the colours that I love, they are beautiful! Your warping tool is really impressive, it’s so nice that you can warp alone with it, will you have different widths? My loom is only 16 inches. Do you buy your cones of yarn online, Trish? Sorry, no more questions, promise😊 Thank you for the words of encouragement, I feel like a phoney when I call myself a weaver because I make so many mistakes and have a lot of less than thrilling finished projects but as you say, that’s just the way it is. I really enjoy your videos and holy crap how can you possibly have a 36 year old??? 🙏💕
@FiberLoveDiary
@FiberLoveDiary 4 жыл бұрын
I don't mind questions! Bring them on! We are only making a 36" size right now, but it will work for anything smaller than that, just not for anything larger. You just wouldn't use the full width. I LOVE that thing. I think it's the reason I started to like weaving. I really hated warping before, but this isn't hard at all. I usually buy the cones at Walmart if I can get the colors I want, but if I can't I go online. I'm still finding it hard to call myself a weaver honestly because my weaving is so simple. I like to just let the yarns make it pretty instead of trying to make complicated patterns. I know it's possible with a rigid heddle loom, but it's not really what they are made for and it's a lot of fussing around. The 23 to 36 year old kids are the bonus kids I got when I married John. The only bio kid is the 22 year old ;)

@@FiberLoveDiary Thank you for the lovely response and my dear, you are a weaver. You designed your own warping tool and you are inspiring loads of people with your weaving. I hear you about the rigid heddle limitations, it gets very fiddly to make pretty patterns and I know one day I will have a 4 harness loom for that because I really want to try a few simpler designs too. I found one cone on Amazon but I know hubbie will be dismayed if I get it, darn darn darn...what can I sell pronto to get me some peaches and cream cone yarn she asks herself as she looks around the house :-)

I just stumbled onto your videos this evening. I've been intrigued by weaving in the last month. I don't know anything about it at all. How did you get into weaving? Are you self taught? If I wanted to start what is the best way? Any loom recommendations?
@FiberLoveDiary
@FiberLoveDiary 3 жыл бұрын
Welcome! Basically, I was looking for a way to use wild handspun. I have extremely particular ideas about how much visual chaos is too much, so I struggle using very colorful or textural handspun unless I"ve thought a lot about the end product. Weaving seemed to be a great way to use some of it. I've never taken a formal class, but I'm not sure if I qualify as self-taught if I use tons of KZbin 😂 I think the best way to start is to buy a used loom somewhere, so the investment is minimal. Then I would get on KZbin and watch LOTS of Kelly Casanova and Liz Gipson's videos. Then, do not be scared and go for it. Accept that everything won't be perfect, but it will be a perfect step in your weaving education and journey 💜

@@FiberLoveDiary thank you for your reply. do you have a loom you would recommend? I’ve looked online at used ones but since I don’t know anything about them I don’t know if they’re a good deal. What type of look do you have?
@FiberLoveDiary
@FiberLoveDiary 3 жыл бұрын
@@BroadMeadowFarm Good question. I think most people just fall ni love with the first loom they use, but there isn't really all that much difference in my opinion. They all do pretty much the same thing. So, I would suggest that you see what great deals are available, then before you buy one, look up that particular brand, or loom and watch some videos. That will help you figure out if everything is there, and if it's one you think you'll like. If you can't really try them out, it's difficult to be 100% sure, but that's why i suggest you minimize the investment. You can always go back and buy a giant brand new one later after you've tried out a used one.
