While the lethal game mechanics are more abundant, I enjoyed the challenge of a ghost, non lethal run, more than the fighting way. Also, the short run time and large descrepencies between lethal and non lethal game feel/endings made it pretty obvious that they intended the player to have at least two playthroughs. The setting and story felt really unique (the whales and outsider, witches etc were awesome). Also, why didn't you say anything about the DLC? Its awesome

@fobo33613 жыл бұрын
I'd almost say they did too good on topping dishonored 1 tho, since dishonored 1 in my opinion was just about the closest thing they could've gotten to perfect, yet they pushed it farther, and pushed fucking HARD to the point alotta the levels feel just overwhelmingly dense and large, yeah they improved overall gameplay and ai, but at the cost of 1's perfectly dense and sized levels, like thats what made it so replayable for me, where dishonored 2 doesn't really feel like it was built to be played multiple times back to back, it feels built more like bioshock or a legend of zelda game where you'd take a long break before playing again
@fobo33613 жыл бұрын
Also i miss the more grounded plot of 1, where it was just alright, there's this house you gotta break into and kill this guy (or poke him with a stick in the face whatever you want), and then go home, in 2 there's time travel, moving houses, and even the more grounded missions have such unrealistically massive mansions it'd be impossible to live in without getting lost or needing like a skateboard to get around the long hallways, and as much as i love the idea of my target shredding it down the halls, it sorta just overwhelms me and makes me think way too much about searching each and every room instead of killing my target and getting out before i catch too much attention, y'know like an assassin would

Great video. I particularly enjoyed the clips corresponding to what you were talking about! It shows care and attention to detail. It's also interesting what you pointed out with regards to "lacking" stealth mechanics such as darkness and distractions. I never really connected the dots that this might be due to the blink feature, which sort of "covers all bases". Though I seem to remember there was either a game mode or achievement or something related to beating the game without using magic.. unless I'm misremembering, that would mean it should still be beatable without blink.

Dishonored blew my mind. It had a decent story (usurped throne and winning it back is kind of generic, the twist at the end kind of freshened it up a bit and even made some comments about how another bourgeoise group like the loyalists were will be as bad as the former bourgeoise group and that liberation comes from liberating the proletariat), the world that was built was a nice dieselpunk-esque world with many parallels to our time but player choice was really pehnomenal. Like sure you had the obvious choice of lethal vs non lethal and showing yourself or crawling through shadows, but I remember the 2nd time you visit Dunwall. You can either poison the gang's elixier making apparatus and by this get a rune (and a bonecharm iirc?) but this would mean there would be less elixier to cure people. You could either save people or benefit yourself slightly. Things like that made the game a true masterpiece imo

Artistic asides: the boat isn't a cop-out. It's because Corvo is Death (you can see it with the in-world tarot deck they released). To be carried in and out of the underworld in greek mythology, you have to take a boat ride, carried by the boat man Charon who only ever asks for two coins for his unending duty to ferry the souls of the living, as well as a lot of metaphors in many cultures about waters and rivers being connected with the transition from life to death. Death in the tarot also represents sweeping and unstoppable change, because things always die, whether you like it or not. Whether Corvo liked it or not, his Empress was killed. Whether his enemies like it or not, he is coming for them, and he is uncompromising in his goals to end their reign (however you choose to do it). It's not super important, but it is a fun sort of layering they do to their story telling in the world of Dishonored that is another reason I love this game.

I had a lot of fun with the Pacifist route when I played it, but even then I had one criticism other than the lack of non-lethal options. Some of the non-lethal target eliminations are kinda bland or just handed to you imo. For example, you don't even need to enter the same room as the Pendleton twins for their non-lethal elimination, don't even need to see them. I think for this reason my favorite non-lethal elimination in the game was The High Overseer, just because of how much work you actually had to put in to that elimination. Lethality can offer really dynamic and satisfying kills and I feel like Non-lethal can easily match that when it aims for the navigational puzzles of carrying your target or Hitman style set-ups to get them in the right place at the right time.

It seems like yesterday when together with a friend we saw with great emotion and enthusiasm the trailer for Dishonored, the one in which Corvo is in prison and communicates with the Outsider. It has been nine long years of that, it really hurts me to know that so much time has passed, I have a great nostalgic affection for this video game for its artistic section ("similar" to Half-Life 2) and its sound section, it is simply a unique and unrepeatable wonder that Arkane Studios has not repeated with Dishonored 2, which in my opinion lacked that essence so "maritime", romantic, so French, British and "aristocratic" that this first Dishonored has, almost as if from an ode to the classic art of the XIX century. For me, Dishonored has aged really well, I still remember specific characters, I still remember some afternoons in 2012 watching the sunset in some areas, marveling at those sounds of seagulls or the coast. Thank you for reminding me how wonderful this video game was, the years will continue to pass and I will continue to think the same, a shame that there are so few video games of this cut.

I've discovered Dishonored a few years ago and since then I've played it a few times. I liked the atmosphere, I liked the story and how you could complete a mission in different ways, choosing to kill the targets or not but even if you don't kill them, they get their punishment. I like the attention to details. The levels are designed in such a way that you can take different routes. Some people criticized the fact that the game forces you to achieve low chaos, otherwise you get the bad ending. I understand what they mean. I didn't mind this, though, because I'm crazy about stealth games and if a game gives me the possibility to complete it in a stealth way, I do that first. Nevertheless, I've completed this game in both low and high chaos (I've heard there is medium chaos too? But I didn't know how to obtain it). You can kill some enemies but not literally everybody. The say you can kill a certain percentage of the map's population but I don't know how much this means for each mission. Anyway, Dishonored is one of my favorite games. I liked it more than the second one, though.

@@thisbubblygoodness7611 I mean it's all subjective I guess, but in my opinion the art style was completely ruined, Dunwall didn't even look like Dunwall, everything just felt like an uncanny valley version of the original. The gameplay defenitely did no improve though, sliding is 10x worse, it locks your camera in place, everything just feels stiff, the whole controller is just simply not as refined as Unreal Engine's physics was. I guess they added kicking, and turned Corvo's blink into Daud's, and more non-lethal options. But that's about it, Excluding the clockwork soldier, I don't think there was a single new enemy in the game. I enjoyed the game, I just didn't find it as good as the original, and I'm sick of people saying it is far superior when it quite literally isn't, the story is just a rehash of a DLC from the original and it was awful in comparison too, it makes Daud's 2 DLC long effort feel pointless and the end of the second game kills her in practically the same way, meaning she could most likely come back if they were lazy enough to do that. And the gameplay is just awful (Except some elements of combat) I don't know how you can argue that it's not sloppy, the pc port was god awful and they still haven't fixed it, there's a beta branch on steam that you have to use to get it to be semi-playable (Extremely sloppy behaviour considering Deathloop currently has similar issues), Speaking of Deathloop, that game is literally stitched together from Dishonored 2, DOTO and Prey, and it still took them 4 years to develop and it somehow released with worse AI than Dishonored 2. This is going to sound very negative, but I really do like Arkane games, I just hate the way they're headed. Their new engine honestly sucks, and they're being lazy, and re-using major parts of old games is an awful practice and the worst part is, people don't notice half the time. Unless it's a re-used boat animation, people will boycott over that, they don't realise three quarters of Deathloop is just ripped code from previous games though.

@@bobross9370 i respect that, not sure how you mean by Dunwall not looking like Dunwall, that just makes no sense to me, Kaldwin's tower and its surroundings are the exact same as the first game's as for gameplay well im just gonna agree to disagree, i played on PS4 so i had game breaking bugs or performance issues, i suppose in terms of gameplay, im used to using the controller, i bumped up the sensitivity and as far as i can tell it plays similar to the first game with the non-lethal improvements and with the Dishonored 2's story... yeah fair enough, its not as good as the first game's, i don't think its bad, but its very simplistic but having said that, Dishonored 1's story wasn't exactly the greatest either, as the majority of both games is assassinating people who have wronged you, but at least Dishonored 1 has that Loyalist betrayal twist at the end and confronting Daud. the Knife of Dunwall DLC has the best story and i think we can both agree on that. even though you think Dishonored 2 degrades the ending for D1's DLC, Daud still saved Emily so i would still call that a win anyway thats just my two cents lol

@@thisbubblygoodness7611 Yeah I'd agree with Dunwall tower looking the same, the streets outside don't though, I don't know if it was the higher resolution/different style textures or what but it just felt off. Yeah I think the main problem is, console is so limited compared to PC in movement and controls that it feels almost the same as the first one, wheras PC they are marginally different, Dishonored 1 just feels more responsive and fluid, D2 Locks your camera in place and slows your sensitivity when trying to perform certain actions, the original didn't do that too much and when it did it wasn't really noticeable. I think the main problem with the story was the fact that they used the same characters in the same scenario they've already been through, they could have branched out into a smaller scene, you don't have to be royalty to be "Dishonoured", it's definition is literally "to treat with disrespect", the first game did it well because Corvo was on the run after being framed for killing the Empress (Actually being Dishonoured by the Lord Regent). Wheras this game Delilah is just evil the whole time, same as the last game. I feel like there's more meaning behind killing the people in the first one, the second one is more of a conspiracy mystery, it just feels empty and uncreative. However the world building was pretty good, The heart had more voice lines which do a good job of making you want to kill/spare civillians and the odd notes and rooms around have good stories to them, same as the first of course.

Just started playing this game again today. I started it two years ago and it’s pretty good for a game pushing 10 years old.

The High Chaos route was so fun, and by the time I got deeper into the lore, just felt so much more justified that my Corvo was pretty much a supernatural John Wick killing to avenge the empress and save his daughter.

I love this game for the story telling and world building alone. the story isn't the most dramatic or anything unique but the the story telling and world building really immerses me into the game.

i think dishonored is amazing, but man it is a breath of fresh air when i first played dishonored 2, not only with more of my toolbox being able ot be used for non lethal runs, but also giving enemies like the wooden robots, allowing to use all my tools without consequence or "chaos" it feels like a proper sequel.

Tbf while Dishonored 2 does have a much more fleshed out non-lethal combat system you still can use a lot more of your toolset so long as you get creative which is arguably what the actual theme of low chaos Dishonored playthroughs are, that it's not about what powers you're given but how you use the powers. Sure you can't shoot enemies in the foot with the crossbow but you can distract enemies with them. A well thrown grenade in either game can shut down a Watchtower without ever needing to climb it. There's a sort of puzzle-like charm to understanding how each of your tools can be used beyond just murder My favorite example is when I did another low chaos playthrough in preparation for Daud's DLC and my main strat aside from spamming Bend Time was using Devouring Swarm along with Gutter Feast so I could snack on white rats for infinite mana. I had to intentionally find safe places to summon the hungry gremlins away from unconscious bodies but my reward was infinite freeze time. It was so strong I intentionally skipped getting my crossbow and held onto Daud's knife. Easily one of my favorite playthroughs of the game

9 years later and still this is one of my most favorite games it has a masterpiece of story and it’s lore is amazing and it’s many ways to approach like be the true crown killer or be the royal protector and I love how fun it is to do both runs although pacifist run is much harder it’s still fun
