Disk brakes are used in many modern vehicles. This type of brake is also often used in motorsports. In this animation, we want to explain a disk brake with a ventilated brake disk.
Contents
1) Ventilated brake disc
2) Monoblock brake caliper
3) Brake piston and brake pads
4) Brake lining and carrier plate
5) Brake fluid
6) Clearance and minimum distance
7) Fixed vs. floating caliper

Looking at brake design for a university project for the second time. My first time was about 3 years ago, in second year, and I struggled so much to find a good explanation on the exact mechanism. If only I had this resource back then.

That's not the point of his animations, they are only about the function. That's why the animations are so good, because they are what it is all about. After somone understood the function of sth due to the animation, he can dive deeper into the topic via literature or videos with less ornate animations, since they aren't needed anymore.

That’s my question too. I looked many animations about how Disc brake works, but none of them explains how the brake pads stay away from the brake disc while releasing the brake ;(

You should of also explained on the different types of break circuits like the front t to back, not just the split diagonal and the combination semi front to back split diagonal system used on older Volvo's [ to my knowledge only Volvo exclusive]. Personally I like the split diagonal.

There is no clearance on brake pads, not at all. It is constantly dragging ever so slightly. You can test yourself, a functional brake should always have slight contact in between pads and rotors.

What's your (scientific) source for this theory?
@davidgruen7423
@davidgruen7423 6 жыл бұрын
Thomas Schwenke you can test yourself by spinning your wheels when it’s on the rack, you can always feel a slight drag no matter what, because the rotors always have a high spots that will be in contact with the rotor.

This might be a problem with the brake pad. Do you have any other evidence than this?
