The Hollar Homestead

The Hollar Homestead

20 күн бұрын

It’s past time to harvest potatoes, and we are fighting the compacted soil to get them out. After a few die backs from frost, our 2024 potato harvest is pretty dismal. Also, an update on where we have been and a delicious farm-to-table dinner.

How about the moment @ 22:57, where big brother is holding baby sister, walking with her in his arms as he’s burping her? Dad & mom have certainly modeled excellent behaviors for all the children.

Why do I enjoy your channel so much? You're not like most of the others, which, by the way, I have unsubscribed to quite a few of "the others". This family is real, down to earth, not flashy/showy and you use what you have. They don't use $130-180 handmade pottery bowls, or spend tens of thousands of dollars on giant refrigerator, lol. They don't run out and buy all the newest gadgets to keep up with the Jones's. my kind of people. Keep up the true sustainable choices!

Make some hanging drying racks. Simple rectangle frame with hardware cloth over them. Mount the with eye bolts from the ceiling- use a simple pulley to raise and lower. Mount your box fans to the rafters in the barn. Plug them into a 6-way that you can turn the on and off with the 6-way. Fill the tables with garlic, onions, potatoes- raise them up to the roof and turn your fans on low.

You are not alone with the sad garden year. Mine is very small but it has grown since our first year 4yrs ago. This year when we have 85% of our garden built birds pulled all of my pepper plants but two. My onions quickly croaked and to add insult to injury a week ago a branch fell onto my garden during a storm. I call it a branch some might call this 20ft branch an entire tree. Wiped out most of my slicing tomatoes, killed my celery and we still don’t have all of it cleaned up since it’s 100* with humidity that could kill me. Thank the Lord I can cook, and there are local farmers. It’s sad not being able to say this “is ours” at the dinner table so you go on tell us each and everything you worked to produce on your farm and we will be glad for you and know the joy those words bring!
