If you're still on the middle Chesapeake you should check out Solomons. Lots of nice restaurants, a West Marine, and protected anchorage between Zahnisers and Beacon Marina on Back Creek. I just moved my boat up here from Deltaville a few weeks ago and am loving it (check out a little spot called Lotus- great sandwich wraps and wonderful key lime pie!).

Well if it's not to late St Michael's(Eastern Shore) is a fun spot on the eastern shore, great crab shack there and a really nice restaurant at Kent Island Narrows called Fisherman's Inn both have dockage either close by or on site as well as anchorages. Lippencott Marine has a sheltered anchorage in front of their docks great overnight spot, short dingy ride to Fisherman's Inn. Annapolis is fun but security has been in recent years a real problem. It looks like your boat goes pretty good under power. How many knots is your cruise speed?

We're over 7 knots easy in good calm water

What's the update on your CPT autopilot? Still just casual use? Or has it performed well under stress?

We use it daily. We are always careful with the weather. Sorry, after over 2 years of liveaboard cruising, we haven't stressed it. I guess eventually we may get caught in a storm....but so far so good. I guess you can call that casual use, but it's the real world for us.

Which ICW guide book are you using? Did you have a favorite when you were cruising the keys? I'm headed south in November down from Chesapeake would appreciate your recommendations.

We used Waterway Guide Atlantic ICW for the ICW. That gets you to Jacksonville, FL. Waterway Guide Southern gets you the rest of the way through the Keys and also has the Gulf Coast to Texas. They were super helpful for the ICW and choosing our stopping points for touring cities. We use Active Captain for info on transiting and reviews of anchorages/marinas. For the Keys we mainly used Active Captain because we didn't own the guide books until we started the ICW.
