@Mickelraven5 жыл бұрын
I think I've heard somewhere that Lilo & Stitch got delayed a few months because they had to change a scene during the third act (when the heroes chases Gantu to get Lilo back) because of the World Trade Center attacks on September 11th 2001. Originally, they would hijack a plane and fly through a city, but were changed to an alien spaceship flying through Hawaiian mountains. This deleted scene does exist in the Blu-Ray and showcased in a Vox video

Thanks for the new video detailing the films from the post-renaissance era. Lilo & Stitch is my favorite Post-Renaissance Disney movie on how it captures the setting of Hawaii the relationship of Lilo and Stitch, her relationship with her sister Nani and the importance of Ohana which means "Family" in Hawaii. 🌴⛰🐬🐠🐟🥥🏝 Plus, it was one of Disney's most successful animated films from the post-renaissance era to be both Critically and Financially successful before the release of Bolt in 2008. I also enjoyed The Emperor's New Groove as well.

I'm going to say it: I like this era more than the Renaissance era. Before you promise to track me down and kill me, let me explain. I love the Renaissance era of Disney. The Lion King, Aladdin, and Tarzan hold special places in my heart. However, each movie in that era feels the same. "Welcome to are movie! Here we have two people who are in love. You don't have to worry about their relationship, they'll be together by the end of movie! They always are! And it's a musical! You get to enjoy great songs throughout the movie!" Not saying it's a bad thing, but each film in the renaissance was pretty much a musical love story. They weren't really trying something else. With the post renaissance, though we still have terrible movies like Chicken Little and Home on the Range (I also don't like Dinosaur or Brother Bear. If you disagree, I don't care.) But it still has great movies like Atlantis, Treasure Planet, The Emperor's New Groove, Meet the Robinsons, Bolt, and Lilo and Stitch. And they were all good in their own ways. While the Renaissance movies were great for similar reasons, the post-renaissance movies was trying something different and were each good in their own unique ways. Just my opinion, don't kill me.

Oh wow. I am watching all the Disney movies in order. I have just finished the post renaissance. I am almost done. I have ten movie left for the revival. In my opinion, the best name for post renaissance is the Experimental Era. This is for two reasons. One is that the movies are really weird and different from regular Disney movies. So there is experimenting different kinds of film making in an artistic sense. The most distinctive part about this era is that a lot of the movies are sci fi. It is different from the usual fantasy genre of Disney. Atlantis, Lilo and Stitch, Treasure Planet, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons and Bolt are all sci fi. That is about half of the movies. Experimental in a literal sense is a part of science. Scientists perform experiments in order to make discoveries of nature. This link to science also links to sci fi. There are two movies that fit especially well. Lilo and Stitch is the best of the sci fi movies. Creatures like Stitch are called experiments. Stitch is the only one in the original movie, but there are more in the sequels and tv series. Meet the Robinsons is a movie that focuses on experiments more than anything else in sci fi. It even has perseverance as its main theme. Perseverance is important for all sorts of personal growth. In this case it is a vital thing for experimentation. The Experimental Era is not that great as far as eras go. I had a lot of nostalgia for Disney Renaissance movies. They came out in the 90s when I was a child. Later I became a teenager in the early 2000s. From there I was very disappointed by the Disney movies at the time. The only two that I always liked were Lilo and Stitch and Brother Bear. Brother Bear is my favorite movie of this era. It is one of my favorite Disney movies in general. The major thing I was nostalgic for at the time is Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. To this day they are still my two favorite stories. Another big nostalgic thing is Pokemon. Pokemon first came out in the late 90s, but I didn't get into it until later in early 2000s. Disney didn't stand a chance against my major nostalgic things of the early 2000s, since it wasn't at the top of its game. I do notice similarities. Black Cauldron is an intense fantasy story like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. It did come out earlier in the Bronze Age. So it is more reminiscent of the older Rankin and Bass version of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. It is also more reminiscent of the Bakshi version of Lord of the Rings. There is an older gritty fantasy cartoon. By contrast the Jackson version of Lord of the Rings was newer and live action. That came out in the early 2000s. Then the Jackson Hobbit movies came years later. Oddly enough the narrator on Black Cauldron sounds just like the one in the Rankin and Bass versions. Lilo and Stitch is a lot like Pokemon. It isn't so similar in the original version. However it is really similar in the tv show and related movies. It is about collecting monsters. Besides the two I like, the rest of the Experimental Era was disappointing. I liked Emperer's New Grove at first. However I liked it less as I got older. I have seen it recently, and I still think it is mediochre. When I watch these movies now, I get pleasantly surprised. There are quite a few that I like. Treasure Planet and Meet the Robinsons are weird, but they are really fun movies. Fantasia 2000 is not the greatest thing, but it is enjoyable. Bolt is really good. It is very fun and also surprizingly deep. It is about a dog actor having an existential crisis. It is cool. The most surprizing one is Atlantis. I couldn't get into it when I was young. However I find it very enjoyable when I rewatch it now. It is nice that Disney did get its act together in the Revival.
@c.d.dailey80133 жыл бұрын
Here are my thoughts on individual movies. Fantasia 2000 This is a weird choice for a sequel. The original Fantasia bombed. So a sequel is risky at best and bankrupting at worst. Fantasia is not a technically good movie, because it has no plot. However I find it enjoyable. Strangely enough one of my favorite movie critics is Doug Walker, and Fantasia is his favorite movie. He praises the artsy quality in the music and visuals. I enjoy Fantasia 2000 as well. It isn't the greatest thing, but I like it fine. I am not a fan of the celebrities, but they don't irritate me too much. I find it weird that the Sorcerer's Apprentice is the most famous sequence. My favorite one is the Rite of Spring. The dinosaurs and music was so cool in that. It is cool that the sequel has music from the same composer in the final Firebird sequence. That is a nice sequence about a volcano erupting and life returning. It really reminds me of Moana. Dinosaur Dinosaur is a major disappointment. Story is the most important part of a movie. If the story is bad, the movie in general is bad. Nothing can salvage a bad story. Dinosaur is a perfect example of this. The story is bad. It has a bland basic plot with bland characters. Land Before Time is my favorite animated movie that isn't Disney. It is a fun exciting dinosaur movie. I was such a big fan that I watched all the sequels. One thing I have noticed is that when other movies try to copy Land Before Time, it isn't as good. I think it is better to do something different and more creative. I consider the Disney Dinosaur movie and the Pixar Good Dinosaur movies to be bland knock offs. It is funny how this movie compares with Jurassic Park. I see the similarity of having CG realistic dinosaurs. However Jurassic Park is a very different movie overall because the story is so different. Instead of having a migrating herd of dinosaurs, it has a high tech dinosaur zoo. One nice thing about the former is the effects. The computer animation is really impressive for animated movies in general. It is even more impressive that this is the first CG movie Disney made without Pixar's help. It looks good even when I watch now. I do like how the main focus is on iguanadons. These dinosaurs look so good. Iguanadons are the first dinosaurs that scientists discovered and tried to understand. I have seen some really bizarre and freaky depictions of iguanodons from the olden days. Crystal Palace statues, I am looking at you. In the Dinosaur movie, the iguanodons have a very modern and accurate look. They totally nailed the anatomy. So I think iguanadons work for an innovating dinosaur movie when they are done so well. I also like having the carataurs as the main predators. This is different from the usual T-Rex and velocorapters. One nice thing is that is so refreshing. I like it when more obsure animals get a time in the spotlight. Another is that carnataur ages better. Over time many of the carnivorous dinosaurs were discovered to be feathery instead of scaly. So scaly depitions are inaccurate. For most dinosaur depictions, I accept inaccuracies due to the depictions of being products of their time. The only movie I do take issue with is Jurassic World movies. They are new, but they are stuck in the times of the origional Jurassic Park trilogy. The Carnatar of the Dinosaur movie doesn't have this problem. So it does age nicely. I checked Wikipedia, and it is still considered scaly. This movie does have minor appearences of inaccuartely naked rapters, but I let that slide. The wierdest part of the movie is lemurs. It seems like an anachronism, because mammals didn't diversify until after dinosaurs went extinct. Then I recently googled it. I did find that there were lemus around the time of the mass extinction. The movie does seem to be around the extinction time since it starts with a meteor hit. So I will let that go but just barely. I can talk a lot about how cool the dinosaurs look. However it doesn't make the movie good overall. I find that James Cameron's Avatar gets the same the same kind of critisicm. People praise it for the technology and the visuals. Then they pan the story. Avatar was more of a fad and less of a classic. Personally I love that movie. It is actually my favorite sci fi movie. I enjoy the visuals and world building. I also enjoy the story. So the story makes the movie work out so much better for me. I like the whole Pocahontas story. It is so compelling. I am really fond of the Disney movie of Pocahontas. So having Pocahontas in space is a really cool idea. It also takes the convention of alien invasions and inverts it completely. It makes for a cool story.

Emperor's New Groove This is a movie of wasted potential. Of all the movies covered in this video it is simultaneously the worst movie and the most enjoyable segment of the video. It is weird. I am amazed by the ideas people had of this movie during development. I think the final product is a mediochre movie. It is a silly comedy and there is just a simple road trip. It could give interesting commentary on the issue of classism. However it doesn't get very deep. Robin Hood and Aladdin tackled this topic much better. Comedy is my pet peeve of story genres. I find a lot of comedy obnoxious and unfunny. I can tolerate a silly movie as long as there is some substance. I am fond of Hercules, Aladdin and Shrek even though they are silly. I can't enjoy Emporer's New Grove in the same way. It is a bit too dumb even for Disney. Then I learn so much about behind the scenes. Wow. I didn't know the movie was so different. I think I would have liked the older version better. The serious story would be more engaging for me. I enjoy Pocahontas and Hunchback of Notre Dame. They are so deep and profound. I like that so much better. I am not a fan of Mark Twain, but I do like the idea of Prince and the Pauper. The one part I do like about the Emperer's New Groove is the setting. South America isn't used in animated movies very often. The Andies are an amazing part. There are the mountains, the Incas, the llamas and the condors. That is a great setting. I am also a big fan of traditional Andian music. So a musical would write itself. One could make for a cool movie. Saludos Amigos is a really old Disney movie, and even that had a nice segment about the Andies. It did have a stuck up llama, and that really reminded me of Cuzco. Even in the Experimental Era, the best movie is Brother Bear. It is an amazing movie set in North America. Emperer's New Groove could have been something like that but in South America. This goes beyond the main character turning into a large mamal to learn a lesson. I am talking about diving deep into the culture, history and mythology of the Incas. That would have made for an awesome Disney movie. I wonder if there are llama and condor totems. Heck Central America has cool cultures, like Mayans and Aztecs. Three Caballos even have a brief part about the Aztecs. The song of Mexico is amazing. It is one of the best songs in the whole movie. A movie about Centeral America would be awesome too.

Atlantis This is a wierd case. It is the most surprizing when I watch these movies. I had nostalgia of watching Renaisance Disney movies in theater every summer. The last good one was Tarzan. I have noticed this on my own. Then I noticed that people tend to make Tarzan the last movie of the Renaissance. Atlantis came out the following year. That is a big disappointment. I couldn't get into the movie. My mom hated it due to the historical inaccuracy. However in recent times, I have warmed up. I learn about Atlantis from other sources. I like the idea of an advanced civilization sunk under the sea. I have recently watched the Atlantis move. I am plesently surprized. I like it much more now. It is a really unusual Disney movie. However I can enjoy it when I get used to it. The worldbuilding and creativity is so cool. I also like the protagonist Milo. I like to have an intellegent protagonist. It is so refreshing. Some other examples are Robert Langdon from DaVinchi Code and Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony. Milo also has amazing chemistry with Kida. I guess in a way, they are like a cross of Pocahontas and John Smith with Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveau. I wished they kissed some time in the movie. Atlantis isn't one of the best Disney movies, but it is surprizingly fun and enjoyable. It is definitely one of the better movies of the Experimental Era. This video does bring up Shrek. Yeah, I can really see why Atlantis had a hard time here. Shrek is a much better movie. I am very fond of it myself. I like the creative spins on fairy tales. I never saw Shrek in theaters. I first watched it on video. I still like it. Lilo and Stitch This movie is amazing. It is the best Experimental Era movie except Brother Bear. There is a lot I like about this movie. I like the alien part. Stitch is so adorable. He is one of the best animal sidekicks Disney ever had. It is because he is a major character of the story. There is a lot of focus between the relationship between Lilo and Stich. I am not a big fan of animal sidekicks, because they do little to nothing for the story. Lilo and Stitch is a rare case of animal sidekicks done right. Personally I am more of a fantasy fan than a sci fi fan. In fantasy I prefer nature as opposed to technology. One part of nature I love is animals. I am obsessed with them. In a fantasy setting, I enjoy supernatural animals like dragons and unicorns. I am a big fan of Pokemon due to the focus on creative supernatural animals. Brother Bear is y favorite movie of the Experimental Era. It is a fantasy with a heavy focus on animals. That is great. Of all the sci fi movies the best is Lilo and Stitch. I think the reason is that it does have a focus on animals. Stitch is a cool animal from space. Aliens can be an enjoyable part of sci fi. Lilo and Stitch is one the Disney movies with the best sequals. I like how it dives into more alien eperiments with all sorts of designs and powers. I also like Chris Sanders. He is a great artist. I like his style. He is good at doing wierd but cute designs. The two movies of his I like are Lilo and Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon. The dragon movie is another case of animal sidekicks being done right. There is also nice creativity in the types of dragons and a clever subversion of negative dragon stereotypes. My favorite character is Toothless. He is so cool. He is like Stitch but a black dragon. This movie also has good sequals. I like the Hawaii part of Lilo and Stitch. I like it in terms of political correctness. Of all the races, the depictions of Pacific people are the worst of the worst in media. Most of the time they don't exist at all. This lack of representation is so bad. Other non races get more representation. Pacific people are rare. The only two depictions I have seen in movies is Lilo and Stitch and Moana. I do appreciate Disney for going ahead of the curve and going forward for representation. I also enjoy the culture and setting for the Pacific people. There is a lot of this in Lilo and Stitch. It is nice. There is an issue of racism, but it is toned down a lot. I noticed it in how the Pacific family is living in poverty, and they almost got separated by the United States government. I noticed it in how Lilo gets bullied by a white girl. It is very subtle and implicit, but I did notice. Lilo is treated like a monster by the bully, which is suspiciously like racism. So she can relate to Stitch being a monster and treated as one. Even other aliens reject him. I do like how the movie frames the Pacific people and the experimental monster as being the main characters and the good guys. If there is any racism, it isn't glorified at all. Instead it is something for these main characters to overcome. In a way Lilo and Stitch is like Beauty and the Beast but with children and platonic love. There is also an inverse where Beauty keeps the Beast in her house, instead of the other way around. I do like the Elvis part. It is a refreshing change for the music. I do like Elvis music. That is awesome classic rock. My favorite kind of music is oldies rock for the 60s and 70s. Elvis starts a bit earlier than that, but he is still amazing. He is one of the two biggest musicians of the time. The other is the Beatles. That is also my favorite band. If they ever make a Disney movie with Beatles music, it would be awesome.

This was when McDonald’s & the other fast food restaurants were giving out the toys from the films as kids meals

McDonalds had a long running deal with Disney. I think they started doing toys in the 1980s.

@@ModernMouse Yeah, not to mention that I literally got scared of the 101 Dalmatians trailer that appeared in the VHS Tapes of Oliver & Company, Toy Story, James and the Giant Peach and Aladdin and the King of Thieves when I was a kid due to Glenn Close's Cruella legitimately screaming, such as "Catch those puppies!" or *"TAKE IT!!"* and laughing maniacally in front of the camera like she's literally staring at you. Even the VHS and DVD covers of 101 Dalmatians (1996) just had Glenn Close's Cruella literally smiling evilly that whenever I see the image of her I just get startled/frightened and get a Jump Scare.

There isn't anything wrong with Fantasia, it just didn't make any money because the company never believed in it.

One of my least favorite eras. I always found all of these very dull and boring when I was a kid. I've never seen dinosaur, just watching pictures of it bored me to tears. Lilo and stitch was also kinda boring to me, and still is honestly. Atlantis and brother bear were also very boring to me. Never saw treasure planet as a kid either, but I saw it like 2 years ago for the first time and really really liked it, but 5 year old me who was an absolute sucker for princess and fantasy movies definitely wouldn't have liked that movie. Surprisingly, I enjoyed home on the range quite a lot. And my absolute favorite from this era and the only one I watched on a regular basis as a kid is Emperor's new groove. It is brilliant.
