Now I really hope a full version of 'Love is an open door' with the Danish Hans and Norwegian Anna exists somewhere. It would be the most correct version of the song. Actually, I'd like the entire Frozen movie with everyone speaking their correct languages. That would be really fun. The Scandinavian languages are fairly mutually intelligible, so as a Norwegian this would only feel natural. Such a shame that Frozen 1 didn't release in Sámi though :( They hardly get any dubs in the first place...
@DasTamii
@DasTamii 2 жыл бұрын
Actually it wouldn't be correct, because it wouldn't make any sense for Hans to speak Danish and Anna speaking Norwegian and understanding each other. It actually would make sense for Hans to speak the same language as Anna, because he visit her country. It's like I visit the US and only speak German with everyone...

I think there's something so beautifully personal about hearing the characters speak and sing in their native languages rather than the lingua franca of English. I was in frozen recently and for that exact reason I'm learning a bit of norwegian (and I think I'm gonna keep with it because it's quite lovely) And as much as I enjoy hearing every clip, some stand out more than others, and I don't know. Maybe it's that I'm semi fluent in German, but tangled and snow white stand out as a couple of my favorites. I love the German language and how it fits the characters (especially mother gothel) so well as they sing in it

The original story by Hans Christian Andersen was in Danish. Prince Eric's kingdom in the Disney movie isn't canonically placed anywhere in particular, but it seems to have a warm-but-not-tropical climate. Then there's the fact that Ariel's father, Triton, is based on the Greek deity Triton (a son of Poseidon), and Atlantica is full of Greco-Roman architecture. So personally, I would put it somewhere in the vicinity of Italy or Greece.

She did for Cinderella, French is stated to be a foreign language in the second film but she’s citing random supplementary material instead of the actual film series. If you really want to go for France, Cindy’s hometown and the countryside around it look like Occitania, so she’d be speaking Occitan. There is no dub in Occitan so French IS the closest but it’s not definitive.

@@QuinnOakhearthSSO Yeah I agree lol. To a least extent, the Princess and the Frog too, since the location had been a US state for so long before the period shown in the movie. But still, as a frenchman I find it kind of cool the other movies are related to France. Especially Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella considering how iconic those two movies are for Disney, Aurora and Cinderella are like the epitome of Disney princesses (even if those two tales, especially Cinderella, have complicated origins which include several places).

Why is everybody complaining about The Little Mermaid taking place in Denmark just because the author was Danish? The underwater world and its fish inhabitants clearly show a warm climate. Triton and Atlantis are from Greek mythology. The architecture looks mediterranean. It is even believed that the original story was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's trips to Italy, which is reflected in his descriptions of the countryside. Not every story has to take place in the author's homeland.

@@isfuvlol5623 I'm going to need some source on that since I have never seen any evidence on that. Andersen doesn't specify in his book and keeps it vague on purpose, and nothing in the movie looks even remotly Danish, especially considering what's living in those waters so I have a hard time seeing the creators placing it near Denmark. If they did, they absolutely missed the mark.

@@samuelzf5864 I... no. No it didn't. It, in fact, doesn't take place in a specific location at all. And as someone who live in Scandinavia I can tell you right now, there is nothing in that story that even remotely infers to it taking place in Denmark or even near Denmark. I don't know where people get this idea from that it takes place in Denmark, but it's either that people just haven't read the book and is paroting what others told them, or they read way too much into it being written by a Dane. There is a statue over in Denmark of the little mermaid, sure, but that's in tribute of the author *after* his death by someone who really liked a ballet version of it.
