Am aboard Disney Wonder at the moment. Even a drink is expensive. A $14 cocktail becomes $A37, although soft drinks are free and unlimited. The daily room charge will add hundreds of dollars to an already very expensive cruise and is not per cabin but per person - so with 4 person occupancy this will be around $IS80 per day or $A200. Mighty pricey housekeeping. So always keep this in mind. I must say - the staff are just wonderful and we are having a great time!!!🎉🎉
@karenchadwick2257Ай бұрын
A $14 cocktail is not $37AU is more like $21. You also can take your own beer, wine and champagne onboard, unlike other liners, so there is no need to buy alcohol. They also have happy hour 30% of the price, Signals at 4.30pm, the Crown and French Quarter was 10.30pm.
@TheCruiseandTravelGuyАй бұрын
The crew were lovely, I couldn't fault any of them. Fantastic bunch. Your cocktail calculation is a little off, but it's definitely a pain to factor in the conversion cost when you see the menu pricing. To clarify, other cruise lines such as Princess and Royal Caribbean allow guests to bring on wine/champagne like Disney does, so this isn't a unique Disney trait and to me, definitely not a selling point.

I had the pleasure of sailing on the Disney Wonder twice during their Australian Inaugeral season. You're right, for me as much as I love Disney the cost of the product in addition to be charged in USD with added gratuity is the reason I haven't rebooked for the second season. It's just to expensive once all that adds up especially when you can travel with Carnival, Royal Carribean, Princess and P&O for a fraction of the cost in AUD.

I was on the 25 to 28 October sailing out of Brisbane and we spent at least one day anchored while they worked on the hull. I think your Disney review aligned with my experience. I liked the split bathroom in the cabin, and our balcony cabin was quite spacious but paying over $1800 each for a 3 day cruise to nowhere is a bit expensive. Not sure I’d do it again

@TheMightyAbsАй бұрын

@RuthEllisonАй бұрын
It's called gratuities in the app. I factor in as part of the cost of doing a Disney Cruise. Yes you can ask for it to be removed, but the staff work really hard and rely on these gratuities. @RuthEllison I understand what you have explained but I would not feel any regret in asking for it to be removed. It is not my duty to pay their employees even more after already paying a hefty fare. I have no interest in cruising with Disney, but I do find it interesting that the Oz Cruising website, which I only use as a 'looking for a cruise and then book direct with the cruiseline page' does not advertise Disney at all within its list of available ships and cruiselines. Does this imply that they either cannot access their cruises list, or don't feel confident in offering their services to Disney as an online booking agent.

Disney has a strange setup in Australia, where they don't sell directly to travel agents. They sell via wholesalers, then through to travel agents. So the wholesaler is the intermediary. Otherwise, from the consumer side, you can book directly through Disney online.

Just got off of the Disney wonder about a week and a half ago in Brisbane. I noted that the pricing from Sydney and Melbourne were more expensive than Brisbane. 2 adults 3 nights payed the equivalent of about $1200 Aussie each tax included for an ocean view cabin. We literally only payed for barista coffee even though the regular free coffee was Ok and better than the other lines. We payed our gratuities ahead of the cruise and didn’t have to worry about that - about $80 Aussie and just payed for souvenirs. Made a decision not to drink alcohol and came out of it I think fairly cheap. The souvenirs were all in US dollars but we knew what we were in for price wise. We gave our waitstaff and room attendants a few extra Aussie dollars on top of the gratuities that are payed out the day before disembarkation and tells you how much each of the attendants and wait staff get from the prepaid gratuities. You can take 2 bottles of wine onboard if you need to as well as 12 cans of soft drink but with soft drinks included didn’t need to. I did order 6 bottles of water only for the Disney merch side ( princesses and Mickey’s on the bottles but got a refund as the couldn’t supply but also got for free 6 cans of still water as a sorry for not being able to supply - win for me.

Singapore/Asia has hundreds of millions more people than AUS/NZ. Asia are a BIG demographic for Animation/Comic Con and Disney style entertainment. Lots of noise at night. The engine plus another noise. The best thing was the restaurant themed entertainment restaurants. I wouldn't go again. Too expensive. The US dollar wasn't a problem. You just add another fifty percent. Like the euro. The Princess was run to perfection. We had an itinerary sheet at the door every morning. So you don't miss anything. It was my birthday 🎈. I think there's a bit of fatigue with itineraries, it's much of the same. Yes I feel, Disney have not done their homework for the Australia market, while there are many Mouseketeers here, we are mostly of age and families here have been hit hard over the last few years. So pricing, onboard extras, US over Au dollar, it all adds up to uncertainty, which many families here would not take a chance on. As for Virgin, well I wouldn’t fly nor cruise with them if it was free. My wife just went to Bali and was a nightmare for her with Virgin. Over booked flight, ( my wife was made to take a later flight as with another Traveller of Sydney.) luggage arriving two days later. I don’t know of a time we have used Virgin and it wasn’t a disaster. Missing connecting flights, missing pick ups, out of hours checks ins, delayed luggage the list goes on. Which is a shame as we do need competition here to give Australia’s greater options and pricing.

@@anneoreilly9007I was on Oriana (P&O) on what ended up being one of her last cruises. Now that was an old, well-preserved ship.

She is definitely maintained to an incredibly high standard, and some of her public areas are very modern. Elevators are small (tiny actually) and some accessibility issues exist. I didn't notice many automatic doors to the outdoors, and saw plenty of parents with prams struggling to emerge at various times.
@anneoreilly9007Ай бұрын
@@TheCruiseandTravelGuy generally accessibility is not the best in the USA overall. There were a lot of doors that you tap a side button and they opened.

I don’t think I’ll ever cruise in Disney.
@TheCruiseandTravelGuyАй бұрын
It’s quite niche… the adult experience is really excellent on the whole though, which makes it an interesting proposition 🧐

Disney Cruises are way way too expensive, especially in the current economic climate. Also, why did they bring the oldest ship which was here last year. Bring a new ship each year.
@laurenlnb2386Ай бұрын
I took the new years cruise this year for 6 nights was great until my 2 teens didnt listen to me about double the money for AUS $$... Good thing i had savings... $1,000 extra... Not happy... Never again unless it comes to South Australia
@TheCruiseandTravelGuyАй бұрын
Eek! 😥 that sounds expensive
@scottsworldАй бұрын
Aussies really can't stand that (not even remotely genuine) saccharine sweet FAKE niceness that Disney (& US services) do. Add on the price, and it's obvious.

Disney is ridiculously expensive

Disney just doesnt interest me at all. I feel like its more of an American thing.
@ingridmccarthy0707Ай бұрын
Not my cup of tea - especially at those prices! I'll leave them to other passengers.

nearly $3000 for 3 days? thats a joke right?
@TheCruiseandTravelGuyАй бұрын
Yeah it's pretty ridiculous... the word is that Disney is offering some steep employee discounts on many of the local Aussie sailings too, not a good sign for the ship's load factors.

If you're not into Disney and you are on an average wage, Disney cruise isn't worth it. Disney isn't shy about only wanting people who have money. It's just not for you.

lol I much prefer spending significantly more of my "average wage" on things like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2jSlWR_hdaMd6M 🤩

Disney Cruise lines is a rip off, with very little to offer onboard except costume characters running around and shows at night
@BrendaVanderweyАй бұрын
Gratuities are not forced here in Australia, go and get them removed, your not forced to pay them here from Aus. Total bull shit
@TheCruiseandTravelGuyАй бұрын
Huh?
@maetherabbit9999Ай бұрын
Correct. And a lot of people did opt out.
@TheCruiseandTravelGuyАй бұрын
Yeahhhh, so in my video I never said gratuities onboard were forced. So the “total BS” comment is, ironically, total BS. Brenda also completely glossed over the fact that Disney doesn’t tell you that you can remove the tips, or that the actual inclusion of them is basically in essence against Australian Consumer Law. Oh and if you want to talk about forced gratuities onboard, then why don’t you take a look at what happens when you order a beverage - did you know that it includes an extra charge allocated to gratuities and that you can’t have that removed? 🙃 Anyway, you guys should actually watch my other video if you haven’t already: What We're Not Being Told About Cruise Fares When Booking | Australian Consumer Law and the ACCC kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWm3aISPd9t2jsk

Terrible value for money, and Australians are voting with their wallets, by directing their bookings elsewhere.

Go woke go broke, Disney doesn't align with my values. Disney is gouging Australians like all the cruise lines but have taken it to the next level. Would never sail with them at any price.
