We go to tea time every winter at the GF. Seeing and listening to the orchestra was always an enchanting experience. They were so classy and sounded so smooth. But they were also fun, they interacted with guests, so polite. I remember the first tea time we went to, I heard the orchestra and asked “is that... a band?” And we looked up and saw them on the top floor playing classy versions of Disney music.

C Ferg I disagree, I just rode rise of the resistance and Mickey and Minnies runaway railway. They were both really charming. Mickeys was really cute and fun, and captured the magic of classic Disney rides, while rise of the resistance was the most incredible attraction I’ve ever rode. It actually felt like I was on a star destroyer. They have to cut certain things that are not as popular due to COVID because they’ve lost a tone of money due to COVID. So to save money they have to cut things

One of the things that my family always loved at WDW was the great live music: British Invasion (GONE!), Mo' Rockin' (GONE!), Mulch, Sweat and Shears (GONE!), Off Kilter (CONE!), and now the GFS Orchestra (first downsized and shunted to the side, now GONE!). The diminishing of the parks and resorts experiences continues unabated.

The Grand is the only hotel my family stays at when visiting Disney. We’ve stayed at the Grand every other summer since our daughter was little. This news makes me so angry and disappointed! Just go to a value resort. Honestly, waking up at POP and walking out of the room right into the cool Floridian air is one of my favorite parts of Disney. Plus, just the fun atmosphere gives you a nice little stay that, honestly, is just as good as the more expensive ones.

If the resort was built around something, you don't remove the thing it was built around. It's like removing the Monorail from the Contemporary, you just shouldn't do it. 100% agree with you. We've only stayed once at GF and loved it. Always loved the live music. We visit the resort most trips to experience our memories (and to eat of course!). They played at the Canadian Pavilion in Epcot for something like 25 years and their act never got old to our family. I am extremely disheartened and saddened by this news. I have a deep love for live music and shows and enjoyed watching these shows at Disney with my parents and grandparents. That being said, I think unfortunately, people these days have little appreciation for live music and live performances. If you look at modern society our city symphony orchestras have been struggling, dance has been struggling, Broadway is struggling, even pre-covid. We, as a society, raised our children in front of screens, spending hours on social media, playing video games, and watching television, streaming media services, and yes You Tube and then are surprised and outraged when the arts are cut because they aren't as popular. Disney, like any other business, does run on money. They are bleeding money right now and I think it is expected that they will try to cut costs where they can. Usually the arts and shows are the first cut. We need to value our artists and musicians as a society and teach our children to appreciate these things from the time they are very small. I'll step off my soap box now.

But what the last ten years or so when they were bleeding their guests.of money, for everything they could put a price tag on. Hard ticket events that slowly but surely became as crowded as day experiences while promising limited tickets sold ie Halloween and even worse Xmas events! Dessert or special events taking up prime areas for fireworks and shows and taking away perks enjoyed by people staying on property. Don’t even get me started on the ridiculous prices for hotel rooms and parking prices even for people staying on property. So now when they have to limit tickets they are pleading poverty. Karma is a bi**h isn’t it. Now even shortening hours with no shows, parades or fireworks, but the ticket prices haven’t gone down ! Believe me they would not be open if they were losing the amounts they would have you believe. The magic that was Disney has been missing for more than a few years!

There was a Beatles tribute band playing at the UK pavilion in Epcot for about 10 years. Then suddenly they were gone, too. I miss those guys, they were really great. Of course, I don't know if the band stopped playing because Disney didn't renew their contract of if the band itself broke up, but either way the live music that I used to love at WDW has been really hard to find in the last five years or so.

The reason Disney fired these guys was to appease the stock holders - to show them that Disney was willing to make the painful cuts to keep the costs down. You have to remember that Disney considers its only real customers to be its stockholders - the guests in the parks and hotels are a resource to be processed - the end product being money

Tom you nailed it about GF Orchestra, it is the little details that make the Grand Floridian so special. Getting a drink and sitting in the lobby relaxing listening to the orchestra and people watching is one of the things that made GF my number 1 resort to stay at. So very disappointing, and know it wouldn’t be the same to stay there.

Speaking on the orchestra being fired, they are merely adding more members to the list of disgruntled former WDW musicians. And believe me...this is no short list. Next thing you know, Candlelight is not going to have live music. From this to the “restructuring” (B.S.) of the Disneyland band in 2016, they are taking the tradition out of it all...piece by piece. Glad you are saying this stuff straight up, no holes barred. Sadly, that happens in the corporate world more often than people think. A bunch of young, hotshot bean counters that see only the bottom line and not the true soul of a company or it's customers. I've been there enough times to see changes in every aspect of the parks and resorts over the years, and not all of them were good. They think if they change and take away things slowly, people won't notice. Well believe me, they do. For instance, DVC members are seeing changes in places that they plunked down good money to own and had features, themes and amenities that brought them there as members are now gone. Such as seeing things like the signature Artist Point restaurant in DWL converted into character dining. They are also "Re-Imagining" the Polynesian again after they went and ripped out the huge lobby waterfall a few years back. That piece was there since it opened and people miss it. But they've really sunk it by screwing with the Floridian. Though Disney is no doubt a family place, everything, especially the premium venues don't have to be "Frozen" or full on "kiddie themed." Even EPCOT is moving from it's original adult-like feel and slowly gearing it more toward the sippy cup and stroller crowd. Not surprised at the response from the GF orchestra, either. You can read between the lines and see they are pissed. I don't blame them. This is going to disappoint a lot of people. Keep up the rants. And I hope more people complain. It's getting less magical and more ridiculous by the day.

Loving your honesty and while I never got the privilege to see the orchestra live, I did love seeing them perform on video. Feels like my first trip to WDW in 2022 will be missing something important. Disneyland was where I grew up and when I took my son there, I was glad that much of what I grew up with was still there. Such a shame about the orchestra at GF. Edit: Lefse is pronounced Lef-suh (no long e) ☺️

There only doing this due to COVID. They have to cut cost of things that are not as popular due to the money they lost due to COVID.

WDW News Today that’s how they make money. If they lowered prices, they would lose more money, then they would make. That would be bad for business. And Disney at the end of the day is a business.
