I don't get why people think Snow White is a bad character! She's SO optimistic! Snow white saved me from Frozen. After taking my 4 year old to Disneyland for the first time in September, she started liking EVERYTHING Disney and not just Frozen. I never liked Snow White as a kid, but she adores her and thinks she is her.

3:55 Speaking of Adriana Caselotti, this coming May 6 (2016) marks the 100th anniversary of her birth. She was SW's voice for almost all her adult life until her death in 1997.

I read something somewhere that in 1987 they wanted to refresh the audio from the wishing well in Disneyland. So she went in to re record her singing "I'm Wishing" and her voice cracked a few times, being older then. She is said to have taken a little break to collect herself and said "Walt please help me" during her break and when they started again, the track was perfect.

Thank you. Snow White, believe-it-or-not, has always been my favorite princess. Simply because she is the first, and also because of her genuine kindness, grace, and innocence. Though I love a good strong, powerful female character, I think that Snow White does possess qualities to aspire to, and qualities I can relate to and try to nurture within myself. She is just the epitome of "goodness." I like to think about the fact that, she's probably had a really rough life, without much love shown to her, and probably carries around a lot of sadness. Yet, she remains ever hopeful, and kind. Also, the movie, itself, is just so full of that magical Disney feeling; that feeling you can't describe to people who don't understand. And, dude, One Song??? YAAAAS!! My heart keeps singing. :) I think these are may favorite of your videos, btw.

Snow white has a special place in my heart. As a child i remember watching my vhs tape over and over again as i could not get enough of the movie. Its such a pity that she doesn't get as much love as some of the other princess do, she started it all and i love her for it!! There was something so sweet and innocent about her that resonated with me as a child and still does to this day!

I could not agree more. You use the words "sweet and innocent" to describe her. What are the words to describe today's female role models? "Strong and independent". And it's just not the same, is it? I can tell you as a man that we prefer a Snow White over that "Frozen" girl every time.

I always enjoyed the Snow White movie and loved Grumpy but I didn't find Snow White a compelling princess. When Once Upon A Time came out I totally fell in love with Ginnifer Goodwin's portrayed of Snow White in The Enchanted Forest. She was still sweet, kindhearted and loved animals but she is also a total badass. She became a hero as well a princess for me.

But what about someone who tries and tries again but never gets past the struggle? Do we still think they are as cool. And can't we apreciate someone for being kind? Isn't kindness that should matter most?

I think it's fairly common to dismiss Snow White at first but it is extremely important for all the reasons you state. Also, it's absolutely a product of its time. Snow, the Prince, the Queen, they are all fashioned exactly like movie stars of the day. The thing that has grabbed my attention on viewings in recent years is the attention to detail to the backgrounds. It's magnificent. My favorite backgrounds are Sleeping Beauty but Snow White is a rich world that is fully realized on the screen and you can absolutely get lost in the detail of the carvings in the dwarves' home, or the Queen's dungeon, or her throne room with all the peacock detailing. Very important and beautiful film.

Not to mention the fact Snow was only 14 and yet one of the bravest, most optimistic princesses there ever was. She's my least favorite princess as well but aside from the fact she's one of Walt's original three, this chick deserves respect because she's so dang grown up for her age.

I wasn't too into Snow White, but then I went to work at Disney. I worked at the Norwegian Pavilion, at Epcot, and one of the Princesses in the restaurant, was Snow White. I started listening more to the Disney Princess songs, so that I could hum something show accurate while I was bussing tables. And Snow's song worked sooo well. So while Ariel was my fave princess growing up, Snow White's has really risen up on my list. I'd love so cosplay as her at some point too. I have a nasal/high-pitched voice, so I'd like to try it. ^^ Also, love this series! I'm totes subbing to you! ♥

I absolutely adore Snow White and feel she's insanely under appreciated. She goes through so much insane crap and still can smile and hope for a better tomorrow. She is so sweet and kind hearted and trusting and that takes true strength.

I did not like Snow White when I was little but I completely respect and love her now. When I rewatch the film, I don't judge it the way you I would for a newer movie. I watch it instead for its historical significance and I appreciate it so much more that way.

Sarah, this was absolutely fantastic! Awesome and well thought-out analysis. I can't wait to see the others in this series. One of my favorite things about Snow White is how Disney has re-released it in theaters eight different times! The most recent one, in 1993, it opened in the top 5 films that week. Shows how influential the movie is. Great work!

Love your presentation-you didn't mention that this was the ONLY film that Disney did using transparent watercolours for the backgrounds after this they switched to Gouache- (opaque watercoilours) Adriana lived over near Wilshire blvd in a very eccentric Asian inspired home and was quite available to fans who were brave enough to stroll up to her door and say hello-she still sounded like snow white very late in her life-lovely person-I don't remember when Snow White first made it to TV? I think it was after Alice-I remember seeing Alice on TV in Black and white as a child but I saw Snow White for the first time in a traditional theatre in Whittier California and the witch scared the bejeebers right out of me-she is probably my Favorite Princess (tied with Ariel) and has the most iconic "look" or styling primary colours and that YELLOW skirt-ouch but she is recognizable at 100 yards, moving---great job!!!

I love Snow White's voice! As a child, Snow White was my favorite princess, but somehow never finished the movie once because the tape I had and rewatched always stopped at a certain part about 3/4 into the movie so I finally saw it fully for the first time about 3 years ago, and did a recent re-watch and adored it
