Out of all the Disney films, this film was probably the most influential in my childhood. I was for a time obsessed with the movie watching it again and again. My grandmother was getting a cat and I asked her to get a white one (because ya know, Duchess and little Marie). At the pound where she was looking to find a cat she didn't see any white ones but a tan, beige colored one caught her eye. When she approached the cat he reached his paw out and grabbed her, quite literally. Then a few years later my grandma got a dog and because she couldn't get me a white cat she decided she'd get a white dog. Both have since passed (the dog just last year) and I miss them terribly but it's nostalgic to think the reason we got those particular pets were because of this movie.

I grew up in Fayette County, PA. The location where the french and Indian War started was only a few miles from my house.

The three kittens aren't that often in Disneyland Paris. Marie comes out sometimes and the other two are mostly there around Valentine and sometimes spring. I think they are more heavy featured in Japan, where they had their own float.

Sadly even in Disneyland Paris, The Aristocats are quite underrepresented, you see Marie's meet&greet sometimes, but Toulouse and Berlioz are rare on the park, same for pretty much every French character ( except Belle, but only at the Princess House, and only in the Princess Dress, you see Gaston a bit more lately due too his succes in the Magic Kingdom, but, for exemple for the Huntchback, you see Frolo during Halloween, but for Esmeralda for exemple, in years I've seen her only once )

The AristoCats would be the cat version of Lady & the Tramp except that Lady's story starts with her being a puppy & ends with her having 4 of her own with Tramp. Duchess has her kittens to begin with; Thomas O'Malley ends up as a stepdad to them.

Marie can also be found at Epcot at Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland. The other cats are extremely rare to find.

My cousin and I watched this film so much the VHS broke. I'm not going to pretend it's pushing boundaries but it's cute. I like the sketchy style and I like seeing the French countryside and not just Paris. Mostly, if you like cars you'll like this.

I love The Aristocats! It's probably in my top five favorite Disney films...something about it is just extremely charming. (although I'm glad they didn't end up making a sequel. no thank you.)

I love the Aristocats. . .I learned how to play Do-Me-So-DDo on the keyboard by ear. . .or, I'm still learning it, the ending is a bit off still; but, like the song say "like a tree ability will bloom and grow"

Voice actors not mentioned: Paul Winchell (best known as Tigger) as a member of the band, Nancy Kulp (Miss Jane from the Beverly Hillbillies tv series) as the voice of Frou Frou, George 'Goober' Linsey (Andy Griffith show, Hee Haw) as Lafayette, and Scatman Crothers (well known singer / character actor / voice performer) as Scat Cat. This one was packed to the brim with voice talent. And of course, listing all the roles played by Thurl Ravenscroft would take an entire video.

I guess I'm one of the handful of people who actually enjoyed the new CATS movie (I admit I'm a devotee of the original stage show) -- That said, I look at "Aristocats", especially the "Everybody Wants to Be a Cat" scene, and can't help thinking what might have been if they had just done CATS as a Disney-style animated film.

Actually, I think the most influential part of this film is not Everybody Wants To Be A Cat, although it should be. The constant Marie merchandise tells me that she was the most influential part of the film.

Thurl Ravenscroft (what a perfect name for someone with THAT voice!) was also famous as Tony the Tiger. He was also the voice singing the original "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch" song from the 1966 How the Grinch Stole Christmas cartoon.

Honestly this is actually one of my least favorite Disney movies. Basically take the same premise as "101 Dalmatians", and water it down for babies. Basically its just a bunch of kittens being cute and nothing else. Edgar is basically Cruella De Vil, except not scary nor funny in the slightest, and overall it just felt very weak.

I admit I'm not a big "Aristocats" person either -- IMO it's basically just a feline rehash of the much-better "Lady and the Trump". I think the two dogs (ironically) are the ones who steal the show.

Thank you for covering the Aristocats Sarah! It was the very first movie I ever saw in a theater. My cousin took me in the Spring of 1971 which would make me only 3 1/2 years old so I have no memory of that first night seeing something on a big screen but this movie has stayed etched in my heart over the years and I grabbed it quickly the first time it was released on video. Back then here in Stilwell, Oklahoma, any movie that was released would arrive here about 6 months later so we always had to wait. My cousin has always loved cats and he was a Senior in High School at the time. I think he took me just as an excuse to see a cartoon about cats! :) I will have to look and see if you have covered The Rescuers yet, I can't remember it if you did but I would love to see the details on it as it was the first movie I ever saw by myself. If Disney had a Hall of Fame I think Phil Harris and Sterling Holloway should be first ballot inductees. They were so incredible voice actors. Eva Gabor gets consideration too but I am not sure how much she did beside this and The Rescuers. She may just be getting high marks from me for here fantastic comedy performance on one of my favorite show of all time, Green Acres.

Actually, The Aristocats is one of my least favourites in the Disney canon. I watched it a lot when I was a kid, but now I just find it boring and forgettable. Everyboby Wants to be a Cat is still good and Napoleon and Lafayette are amusing, but that's it. I don't know, it just feels episodic and half-assed to me. Edgar is also one of the dumbest villains in any Disney animated movie. I prefer Robin Hood over this one, because it raised the bar if we're talking action, humour and especially the climax.

Marie and I have been the same person since I was born. Since my brother was born, my mom always quoted Berlioz' line, "You're not a lady. You're nothin' but a sister!" because I pretty much was Marie.

wow I never recognised how Duchess is the same voice as Bianca! So glad there is no Aristocats two...kinda sick of sequals! To be honest the Aristocat kittens aren't out that often in DLP usually just special occasions and rare random meet and greets but that's probably still more than other parks I guess

I absolutely LOVE the Aristocats! That and Lady and the Tramp were always two of my favorite movies as a young kid! I had a giant Marie stuffed animal and would always sleep with her at night! Lasseter cancelled Aristocats 2 because he created Bolt instead. Aristocats talks about how Everybody Wants To Be a Cat but one of the messages of Bolt was that everyone likes dogs better than cats! Illuminati confirmed.

I grew up in a bilingual household and I clearly remembers the main song in Spanish! "Todos quieren ser ya gatos jazz!" This movie will always remind me of my childhood even more than all the princess movies :) This is a great video series!
