Sometimes the best stories are the ones that know how to end. (Breaking Bad, Gravity Falls, The Good Place, etc). We’ve seen time and time again stories being told that keep running simply for cash grabs. I’m really glad Andor is committing to typing their story into Rogue One

@@stone_pilot disagree with it being overhyped but respect ur opinion to me, I've never watched a disney star wars series (including mando) and enjoyed every episode- until andor. Every episode meant something and wasnt just filler trash (insert boba and obi wan episodes). It's a well thought out story with good writing, acting, score, and setting. I'd rather over-glaze a series that actually hit the nail on the head than downplay it's successes. I'd take 1 show that is similar to andor over 10 shows that are like boba/obi wan any day of the week.
@stone_pilot10 күн бұрын
@@bigmacnw Yeah that’s super fair. In the context of everything else, Andor 100% deserves to be glazed. I guess it’s just that given the buzz around it, you might expect to walk away feeling like you just watched Game of Thrones season 1, Arcane s1, Inception, The Big Short, Peaky Blinders, etc. I also think that although the show touched on some dark themes, for the sake of being kid friendly-ish it didn’t follow through with them completely. I do think that took away from the story’s potential to some extent. But yeah it’s not a bad show by any means, to be honest it’s similar to Mandalorian season 1 for me. If they were just a little more daring, a little less kiddish at points, damn it could be so good. Like right next to my favorite movies. As is, it’s like in solid A tier for me.

It’s interesting that so many comments think “f*** the empire” would’ve been too crude. I wonder how much of this is US sensibilities vs European. While it’s considered very rude to swear in the UK and Ireland it’s also seen by many to be an appropriate way to express a very strong feeling and that sometimes there’s no better or stronger word. Personally I like both versions but when I watch the finale, my head canon is that Marva does indeed say “f***”. She’s so angry and so upset at what they have taken.

The ONLY metric that Disney cares about is the bottom line. They don't care about the stories, the characters, or the universe in the way that Lucas did. They only care about how many lunchboxes they can shift. Now obviously one can draw a line between a quality production like Andor and commercial success, but this is not always evident (see the MCU for example) and really well made productions that get rave support from fans and critics can still be commercial "flops". However, it's really encouraging that, if true, Gilroy received no "notes" (read "edicts") from the Office of Kathleen Kennedy or her white slaver masters, and that can only be seen by fans as A Good Thing and bodes well for Season 2.

High quality storytelling is timeless, and by definition operates in a much less saturated market. Hence why classics remain classics and continue to attract audience members who weren't even born when they first released (Aliens, T2, LOTR..). IMHO Lucasfilm needs to accept that Star Wars isn't always guaranteed a spot in the youth cultural zeitgeist and instead focus on creating a content library that can stand the test of time. Given that, Andor is exactly what they need : something that today's children can grow into. This might be an unpopular opinion, but even though I love Star Wars, I don’t really think endless franchises are good for storytelling no matter how well done they are. Would I love it if we got a new mainline Star Wars trilogy with good writing and acting? Of course I would. But I would like it even more if we could just have new original stories with their own unique characters and world building. And I think that’s why I like Andor so much. It doesn’t really try that hard to be Star Wars. Shit, if you replace the space ships with trains and the planets with European cities, it could be a WWII era spy thriller with very little reskinning. So I do hope that Disney learns from Andor. But I don’t necessarily think their takeaway should be “we need more hard boiled adult Star Wars media,” because soon enough they’ll just water that down too. Their takeaway should be, “we need to let writers create new stories.”

The people involved in “Rogue One” and “Andor” should be in charge of Lucasfilm. Enough with nostalgia-bait and lazy DEI

Nothing short of a total and outright de-woke-ification of Lucasfilm will suffice.

Andor was the worst Star Wars TV show to date. If they learned something in the process, then hopefully to do it differently next time 🤷🏼♀️

Nostalgia give me a break. The force, sith, Jedi, and lightsaber fights. Are the backbone and soul of the Starwars franchise

The most disappointing part is that no matter how good season 2 is, they're cramming the entire remaining showrun into season 2 and that's it, cut to Rogue One and everybody dies.

Sometimes the best stories are the ones that know how to end. We’ve seen time and time again stories being told that keep running simply for cash grabs. Walking dead or GOT is a great example. I’m really glad Andor is committing to typing their story into Rogue One

According to Tony Gilroy "Andor is a novel" via 24 episodes/chapters. Season one was the 1st half & season 2 is the 2nd half of the novel.

@@itsjoshh Exactly this. A longer show does not inherently mean a better show, and there are too many examples to count of successful shows that overstayed their welcome and lost quality control.

@@itsjoshhabsolutely, although I'd disagree on GoT; part of the problem with the last two seasons was exactly that they were trying to speed run the seasons, which completely messed up arcs and flow. I'm hopeful this will be good, but I do worry they're going to try and stuff the proverbial three pounds of sausage into a one pound bag...

Like someone else said, the 5 season idea was cut before production. They didn't decide to cut the series down after the first season released, it was planned to be this way. I agree 5 seasons would've been amazing, but Gilroy and Diego Luna have both stated it'd be too much for them. They're ending on a high, better to leave you wanting more than to end with disappointment.

This is my last like and view to a Star Wars related content. What Star Wars was is no more, the purpose of it all was perverted and detracted to directions that were never supposed to be associated with Star Wars.

How the hell did this get a second season ? It was garbage . Slow pace with boring characters. The prison scene was just a remake of THX1138. Best part of the hole series was the last 30 seconds when you seen them building the Death Star.

*INT. LUCASFILM BOARDROOM - DAY* The sleek and modern boardroom is filled with executives and creatives, seated around a long table *KATHLEEN KENNEDY* (addressing the people in the room) You know, Tony Gilroy has produced some of the best Star Wars content of the past…25 years. He has brought a much-needed maturity to this IP that hasn’t been seen since Empire Strikes Back, and both the critics AND the fans seem to really like it. Should we put him in charge of our next tentpole projects? Let’s take a vote… *EVERYONE IN THE ROOM* (unanimously) NO!!! *KATHLEEN KENNEDY* Agreed! We’ll hire the guy who films Skittles commercials.
