Rey could have been a great character but her potential was squandered due to corporate arrogance and bad writing. Are they really going to do this? Seems insane to keep trying to ram a character down the public's throat that few people like from a film series that went off the rails in spectacular fashion. I guess those films made money. Just goes to show: Generating cash is no indicator of merit. Blade Runner was a flop when it came out and yet 'The Lion king' remake made bank. I suppose the key is giving a weary and time poor population something they recognise and so need less effort to assess as a good entertainment option. 'I know this, I liked this' vs a brand new creation that is much riskier and requires actual decision making both from producers and the public. Thus more grey sludge is churned out into the world and occasionally something new and special will appear (though that thing will make far less money than the grey sludge that surrounds it). Nothing new, really.

Too bad more people wont be able to appreciate it do to the political progressiveness. So many skilled animators and creative advancements in cinematography... back then because it wasnt there yet; a good story and directive had to carry most of the movies.

Maybe it would be best for them to take a break from trying to make movies. Give the franchise some time to breath, give the last trilogy some time to simmer so they can analyze it properly rather than just having a knee jerk reaction to the multitude of angry fan boys who whine about anything that doesn't work with their personal headcanon. Imagine if they kept trying to flood the market with more Star Wars stuff after the prequels. Does anyone think that would turn out well? Instead, they took their time and introduced Clone Wars as a bit of a fix fic, but a canonical one, and now the prequels are as beloved as the original trilogy. If they maybe try that route, they might, just might be able to push forward.

Remove Kennedy. Remove Iger. Elevate John Favreau to creative director. Return to the OT Lore set out by Lucas. Then get cracking: It’s a BIG universe and there are thousands of potential stories.

Not sure the broth creators can qualify as 'cooks' in this case. More like they were cooked when they cooked up the sad attempt at storyline. As for the TV shows not having the same issues: eeh. Book of Bobba Fett. Failcolate. Not exactly adhering to cannon. And could have used some of the big budget on a better storyline... and acting classes. As for 'where to take Rey': somehow, Rey never existed. Full retcon of the garbage sequel-ogy, and Acolyte. Then you go full Old Republic, so you have plenty of Light, Grey, and Dark side force users. Doesn't have to be Revan. Could be before, after, can have Maldalorians as a species showing their origins, battle droids of various types, etc. And in that universe you can have TV shows and standalone movies.

Considering the track record of Disney/Lucasfilm, their future movie projects are hanging by how well the Mando movie will do. As their TV side is in further decline after The Acolyte with Skeleton Crew bringing in pathetic numbers and no interest. The whole studio is a massive mess and all heads need to be fired.

Just take the legacy Star Wars and work with that material. Wanna continue the skywalker saga? Cast new young Luke, Leila, Han, lando, etc. have them fight Thrawn in a new trilogy as they did in the books.

Incredibly incompetent leadership, that has tried to use a 'lack of material to abuse off of' as an excuse as to why they failed when another department has had almost no issues by comparison doing the same thing, when they do in fact have a whole bunch of materials, that at least one of their guys is pulling from - yes.

The television side have Filioni and Favreau, both which are actually great script writers and directors with a deep knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. Not everything they make are masterpieces but more importantly even their low points are quite decent, meaning they don't really make bad shows. Filler shows or forgettable shows perhaps but not shows that you feel is crap. And that is important because quality matter and it seem the movie side have forgotten that.

im a massive star wars fan and i even went to see the clone wars movie in theaters just so i could say that i saw every star wars movie released in my life time in the theater. the last star wars movie i saw in theaters was the last jedi, that movie was so bad that despite my original desire i decided not to see solo in the theater and instead waited untill it hit netflix to watch it. by the time episode 9 came out disney had ruined star wars so much that episode 9 remains the only star wars movie i have not seen. i have no interest in the sequel time line or its characters. if a rey movie comes out i doubt i will see it even if its on cable and theirs nothing else to watch. im barely even invested in the tv series at this point lol.

I watched episode 9 in theaters with my niece who was 7 or 8 at the time. It was so bad, even her and the other kids in the theater were complaining and some walked out. Do not watch it ever😂

I read that George is actually a pervert, like Steven Spielberg...They originally discussed having a scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark where a 14-year-old girl would be seduced by the main character...And later on they extended protection for the likes of Harvey Weinstein. They are really not good people.

The sale made sense on paper. Lucas has never blamed the fans. He was just ready to retire and not commit to a 10 year film project. I suspect Kathleen Kennedy was a competent producer, but she's trying to act as creative director and lacks any skill for it. Disney had a history of family friendly films and the sort of budget to do SW properly. But instead of letting SW be SW, they thought they could repeat Marvels success with a reboot and mass of interconnecting films.

being an actor with no influence on the project and it turning out bad then getting hate is one thing, but shes getting what shes getting for how she defended it and treated fans and critics, ontop of that being totally uninformed about the franchise shes acting in, along with pretty much all the other actors and the writers, so many interviews where theyre utterly confused and Talking about There being no Good or Evil in Starwars "Just People and choices" and then saying "Even Anakin destroyed the death stars"

Disney needs to admit they screwed up with the rey/new order timeline. Start from scratch and introduce a new trilogy. Admit the .mistake and start over.

Noone at Lucasfilm is aware of any Rey-movie-project. it is a delusional and desperate plant to the press by KK who is banned from office for more than a year. If it were a project, shooting 3 movies at the same time makes sense, as it is 3 massive bombs that not even Disney would greenlight one after the other independently.

At this point they need to just abandon the Rey story line. Either find a way to start over with new characters or find a way to bring Cal Kestis (Cameron Monaghan) to live action films. Or, stay with me here, just adapt films from some of the star wars comics and expand from there. I would suggest films focused around Boba Fett but from his performance in the Book of Boba Fett, its probably best to just let Temuera Morrison retire before that character get completely ruined.

Honestly why focus on Rey? This stubbornness helps nobody. I like the actress, admire her even, but the character was Mary Sue and everybody knows it. Alas, if you insist on me spelling it out: WE. DO NOT. LIKE. REY. Admit you messed up with 7,8,9 and start anew, for the last couple of years showed clearly that you CAN always amass more dislike for yourself. I for one would appreciate honest regret and might just come to open up to Disney again (I'm sorry, but respect will have to wait). The simple truth is, you messed up just as much as the people from the Percy Jackson movies and the Eragon movie did. They however had the self-respect to stop their madness at 2 and 1 respectfully.

Watching her struggle to become a teacher and leader could probably redeem the Mary Sue-ness to some degree. Listen, no one's going to disavow the sequel trilogy; that's fan craziness. But it might be possible to put them in a better context with additional work...if they've got the scripts.

@@realQuestion I don't doubt that it could improve the character, but I am simply uninterested in her story. If I repair and polish the car my girlfriend crashed and died in, it might just start looking good again, might just be able to drive people like it used to, but I certainly won't forget who died. What they're trying to do now is what the fans wanted to see since forever... being done by LUKE: HIM struggling to be a teacher (and the entire thing with Mara Jade because that's just so awesome), HIM learning that the Jedi weren't right in everything and that he should change the rules about marriage and love and such and HIM just generally commenting on the changes that will happen to the entire galaxy because of the Empires fall. They failed to give us that and now force Rey down our throat, with the exact thing we wanted done by the character we loved. I don't know about you, but I feel insulted. If they buy the right for the entire Vong storyline and have Rey and her students take the Skywalkers part (her adopting the Skywalker name what a bag of s**t), I'll be pissed off to no end. Ps: That being said, I do hope they deliver something the people still interested in all of it can enjoy (I doubt it, but still).

She was a weak character from the start, written by people who had nothing to say, and put into a story that didn't know what to do with her. Anything based around her is going to be cursed because she isn't a fully realized person. She has no origin, no destiny, no future.
