That's a shame. They released so many great movie titles for blueray, and now they're not even releasing physical media themselves? This is why you should support physical media. According to my research, Disney's _Wish_ and Searchlight Pictures' _Poor Things_ will be the very last North American physical media releases by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. After which, all subsequent North American physical media releases of Disney-owned films and TV shows will be handled by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The Digital HD releases will still be handled by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. Also, as part of the new deal, Sony Pictures will technically gain the North American physical media distribution rights to all Disney-owned Muppet films and TV shows, such as _The Muppet Movie_ and _The Great Muppet Caper._ Sony Pictures once owned the home media distribution rights to those two aforementioned Muppet films from the late 1990's to the early 2000's.

Streaming services aren't everything though. There are plenty of digital storefronts (iTunes, Microsoft Store, Google/KZbin, etc) for rental and purchase. For me, physical media is priority 1. I use streaming when I travel or just for convenience without wearing out my blu-ray player or pulling my blu-rays off the shelf more than I need to. What's on my shelf isn't going anywhere, isn't getting edited, nor is my shelf divided up between apps at monthly costs for viewing each one. It's there and it's paid for. I don't have that guarantee with streaming. Not at all. Since I tried responding and my comment was erased I'm adding my reply to this comment. I have a lot of streaming services, but I still prefer physical media far and beyond streaming. I'm not guaranteed to always afford streaming like I can now and when that season of my life returns I'll still have my physical media. Plus the reasons I give above in my original comment. I'm getting sick of the streaming catch 22. They know there's a collectors market, waning as it is, and sometimes you just want to buy the movie, subscribing to the service or not. I'm very much not happy about how Disney is handling the theatrical releases of Pixar's Covid 3 (in a handful of theaters, at dumb times during the day, all in the span of 3 months when the strikes have severely cut their theatrical output) as it is. Then again, I've never really been happy with Disney's DVD releases. Disney Afternoon series being only released most of the way, the long wait and cancellation of The Muppet Show releases after season three. They did have some of their (horrible) 2000 era sitcoms released via a partnership with Lionsgate or someone. And even when they DID release a DVD set of a cartoon series the RIGHT way, it was through SHOUT, and it was a limited time deal (Gravity Falls, if you're wondering). And I'll say this. As much as an out of control dumpster fire Warner Bros has been the past several years (yep, even before He Who Shall Not Be Named), they put most of their streaming series on physical media. Even Hulu's Animaniacs. And seriously, I know Disney's NEVER going to get rid of any of their animated movies, or any of their bigger blockbusters from the streamer, in the uncertainty of all these companies purging EVERYTHING they can to make up revenue, we want a hard copy. Then all we have to worry about is disk rot.

Disney's problem is everyone already has the movies they love on Blu ray or 4K and there is nothing worth watching and the shows are complete garbage. I've been importing some titles i want like the 25th Anniversary of Titanic which looks 10 times better on 4k disc than the streaming title. Why sell DVD and blu ray players now as well? I got The Mandalorian from the UK its a 4 disc set 2 4K's & 2 Blu Rays and they look amazing. Now they are on eBay for around 200 dollars each as they were limited edition steel books. I bought a few extra copies to sell when they are all gone. The only thing i want is Sleeping Beauty & Alice In Wonderland in 4K with Atmos. Apparently they have been done but just not released, even on streaming. I would buy a spare 4k player. Sony has a great 4k for about 300 bucks. Eventually those players will be gone. Do not fear as look what happened with Vinyl. Never did i think or anyone that Vinyl records would make a comeback over crisp cd's but they have and people are buying more than 1 copy with special bonus tracks and extra things.

Why do i feel the minute sony does well, Disney will buy them in another merger
@KeybladeMasterAndy10 ай бұрын
Probably wishful thinking, but imagine if the Sony releases end up being better than what Disney has put out.

If Sony can't pick the title they want to release and have to clear it with Disney first, the contract is worthless. Say Sony wants to release The Black Hole, and Disney is like, yeah, no, the title is racist and sexual, you can't release that.....worthless. Fire Iger please, lets get Peltz on the board.

Could be a step towards it. We'll just have to see what form the Sony distribution deal takes.

It’s true, and it happens all the time. Movies and series are constantly rotated on snd off streaming services. Netflix removes stuff monthly. You don’t have access to everything forever - only way you can assure you do is to *buy* what you love

@@norfolkpyro1422Big Bad Beetleborgs, Aladdin the series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.... just to name *a few* childhood favorites of mine that I wouldn't be able to watch without the DVD or Blu-ray because they're not available on streaming. As for D+: Aladdin the series, Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command, Mickey Mouse, and House Of Mouse (just to name a few) STILL aren't available outside of VHS tapes. None of these are failed series or movies. I guess when your favorite becomes unavailable you'll understand. You've heard the saying, "Experience is the best teacher."

If its just for the lesser known Disney films All 3 Goofy Movies are on Disney Plus Why cry about this if its just for crappy films that flopped?? 🤣🤣
@DaveLeeDownUnder9 ай бұрын
Except, it's not just for "the lesser known" "crappy films that flopped". Dozens of great, well-known, beloved, and classic Disney films made their way onto Blu-ray ONLY through the Disney Movie Club. You're completely missing the entire point of physical media here - which is to OWN your favourite films FOREVER. Sure, the 2* Goofy Movies are on Disney Plus... but you don't own them, and you certainly aren't guaranteed they'll be there for you to watch forever (they won't be.) People are "crying about it" because it's one less avenue for these great movies to be available to BUY and OWN FOREVER. Here are SOME titles that _ONLY got a PHYSICAL Blu-ray release_ through the DMC: Goofy Movie 1 & 2 The Black Cauldron Saludos Amigos / The Three Caballeros Make Mine Music Melody Time Pooh's Grand Adventure The Piglet Movie The Mighty Ducks 1-3 Cool Runnings Honey I Shrunk the Kids 1 & 2 Jungle 2 Jungle George of the Jungle Freaky Friday (Original & Remake) The Parent Trap (Original & Remake) The Love Bug / Herbie series Return to Oz Pollyanna Old Yeller The Witch Mountain Series Treasure Island 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea The Black Hole Blackbeard's Ghost Davy Crocket The Absent Minded Professor / Son of Flubber Dexter O'Rielly Series Flight of the Navigator Watcher in the Woods Something Wicked This Way Comes Darby O'Gill and the Little People
