Oh my gosh, and now that I've seen this, I can't un-see it!! Ahhhh!! Good idea for a video! I am totally with you -- especially on the Zootopia pins, so many of them look the same! That's why the Zootopia Beloved Tales is one of my faves.

YES!!! I'm glad you made this video Emily! I collect Judy Hopps and sometimes I can't help but look at my pins and go "wow I've spent quite some money on these ones that look pretty much the same... and that Judy one on my wishlist is the same as this one that I already own but with a different background... should I still get it?". I also hope Disney comes up with more unique pins and stop recycling their art so much like you said - there are so many more Judy moments, for instance, in the movie that'd make lovely pins

I mean it’s good for people who may have missed out on a design but these are all such simple art.

We've noticed similarities too - it's helped me pair down some of my collections. Hook and Smee tend to have the same profiled used a lot!

The one that immediately springs to mind for me is that two of my Hades pins have the exact same image/artwork, but on different backgrounds. One is a circle with him popping out, the other is a trapezoid shape with quote text on it. I'll have to look at my board more closely in the morning!

I feel like it’s just because they are characters. And some characters are known for being in certain positions.

I collect Scar, as of right now I have 18 pins. I’d say maybe 6 have the EXACT same pose of the character, just with a different backround 😂

This is fascinating! I’ve designed and manufactured my own pins before, and I can say that reusing artwork is super easy to do. I’m not a huge fan of pins that look exactly the same but sometimes you don’t even notice until you step back!

I collect Smee, and there are a ton of examples of this in his pins. He has the one salute pose that they use for nearly everything.

Very unique topic! I find this frustrating particularly when trying to complete a collection or be a film completist!
@funduedsadventuers91746 жыл бұрын
so the thing with pins is a lot of times the artwork comes from the movie or show and they add a new background they do not redraw the charter which makes it so that the charter art work dose get repeated a lot because especially if they are in just one movie there is only so much art that you can use

I’ve seen the same thing in the “up” pins 🏠🎈

I've been noticing this a lot too! Kind of a bummer, but I guess it helps keep my collection down a bit since I don't need two of almost the same pin

I decided early on not to buy pins that have really similar artwork, I don't have the space or budget for that

Wow. I’m glad you brought this up. I don’t go crazy with collecting the same character I just have pins that I like and they may carry the same theme like Disney cats or Halloween etc but I could see how this would be very upsetting to people who spends hundreds or thousands of dollars on pins. Great video!

I did notice this with the Zootopia characters, I don't have many but, I did notice that the folded arms Judy seemed to come up a lot. And poor Nick, that must be his only facial expression. LOL. I had no idea there were so many tho. Great idea for a video, I'm going to be on the look out for this kind of stuff in the future.

I can’t remember what video I watched that explained design books and how designers from different shops pull prints and artwork from these. Disney sends these out to these designers as a way to control their licensing and the designs they can use. Some movies and designs get updated more often than others.the video I watched was talking about Nightmare Before Christmas and how their design book never got updated when they used to work in product design so a ton of their products have the same general look to them.

There’s so many things you can do with characters and pins. I love to collect for variety, im not a big fan of reused artwork in the context of pins.

I just noticed this while I was looking for a Wall-E pin, box lunch and a regular Disney open Edition pin were almost the same exact design. My main collection is Epcot and of course you see a lot of those symbols used and reused, that has not bothered me as much as all of those similarities that you just showed in your video.
@stephtaylor13845 жыл бұрын
I actually have two pins that look almost identical (they were both gifts from different people) they are both Dory from finding Nemo in the exact design and almost identical colour. The only difference is that one has "just keep swimming" written underneath. I've decided to keep the one with the writing and hopefully trade the other when I get to Disney as I dont need two almost identical pins.

i definitely understand why poses get reused, but i personally do try to avoid artwork from any show or movie that’s been copied and pasted- i tend to call those stock poses ‘pngs’ just because if you search “*insert character here* png” that stock pose will almost always be the first thing that comes up 😅

Totally agree. This happens a lot with my ratatouille collection and I wish Disney wouldn’t do this.

I have some of the pins as well that look similar, such as the sport goofy hidden mickey and the summer 2018. I think that with all the characters that are popular, you tend to see many same concepts just as you mentioned.

The Max as Powerline pins bother me. I personally prefer the look of the Disney Park one, not to mention the fact that it's "more official" when compared with the BoxLunch, but the BoxLunch version is the one I first found and bought. Probably wouldn't've if I knew that Disney had plans on releasing one soon after. But had Disney released ANY frame from the Stand Out scene instead of that one, then I would have bought the set as well.

I think maybe they recycle the art from movies that don’t have that many pins? As for the princesses I’m not surprised they have the similar poses since they recycle the same pictures of the princesses for everything.

This means you don’t need to be a true Artist to design pins, you just take the given template, change the background, enlarge or reduce size, just need to spell check, press print! easy.

i mean... to be fair how many pins have been made in total???? cmon its inevitable for them to look similar. design can only go so far. this just means that you have to be smarter about buying your pins. dont see a problem.
