Cars Land at Disney California Adventure transports guests to Radiator Springs in Ornament Valley, bringing the setting of the Cars movie to life. While the rocks of Cars Land may not be real, they help tell an amazing geologic story, inspired by the real geology of the American southwest. Learn about the real world geologic inspirations for Cars Land, including Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon, and Carlsbad Caverns, as well as the many geologic Easter eggs you can find!

I’ve been planning this video for years, so I’m so excited to finally share this with others! (Also how lucky was I that my recent flight flew directly over Monument Valley!)

I love hearing people who have a specific set of deep knowledge in a subject talk about stuff many people would not think about twice. it is amazing to have a peak into the inner thoughts you must have at these places

Well done. Love the link between the fantasy/ magic of Disney and geology principles! I was just there and loved the kiosk and the scenery was amazing. Looking forward to your next geology/ Disney episode.

That is interesting hearing which elements of geologic sites used from other parts of the United States rather than just one spot.

This was such an informative and well-made video! As someone who's never really connected with most STEM subjects, I was engaged the entire time and found myself wondering what other Disneyland rides could be analyzed like this (perhaps Big Thunder Mountain or maybe even the entirety of Galaxy's Edge?). Thank you for another great video, Emily! :)

Can I just say how much I enjoyed this video? It was so fascinating, and I loved the amount of detail you went into without making it hard to follow along. I adored geology courses in college. I wish more Disney creators would break down aspects of the parks that relate to their areas of expertise and just talk about them. I adore a good lecture on topics like this!! It makes the magic of the parks come alive for me when you can make these connections to real science and history. Excellent work!! Thank you for sharing this ❤

Was this part of one of your research papers? This video was so informative. I was unaware of the different mistakes. I also had no idea the details you mentioned about the shifting tectonics .

What an adventure and a lot of work by Emily in this presentation. More for me to check out in my next trip to Cars Land. I can see a series like this done for other rides. What is your next favorite ride?

I am so glad I found this content, I am sooo sick of the DFB content which is basically a well rehearsed Disney commercial.

Very interesting. I'm guessing the automozoic period takes place in the distant future when AI and machines have for the most part displaced biological lifeforms. They have continued their human creators' car culture.

The sign adds very interesting lore because it says the rocks from the ‘Automozic’ record “events that took place on the North American continent long before the first wheel ever roamed the Earth” !
