Thanks Rob. Even though I was a teenager at the time I don't remember the background to the '79 oil crisis. I do remember driving to Florida after Christmas 1978 in my dad's pickup. We had a camper on the back and the truck got terrible gas mileage (less than 15 mpg if I recall correctly). The truck only had a 16 gallon fuel tank so my dad took fuel cans with us to make sure we didn't have a problem finding gas. I don't think there was ever an issue of not finding a gas station.

Marie Carie Great minds think alike! LOL I have reservations for later this month, September. Hate the idea of wearing a face mask all day in the heat and humidity but the low crowd trade off may just make it worth the face mask inconvenience. With the kids all back in school by then, the crowds should be even smaller. YAY!

Marie Carie You should have a nice visit. It’s cooler down there in February and even in normal times the crowds are low most of January after New Years and much of February. There is a crowd calendar on undercovertoutist.com I find it very helpful in planning which park to visit on which day by picking the parks that will have the lowest crowds on each day of my visit.

My Venturer Scout Team (part of the Boy Scouts) was planning a weeklong hike in the High Sierras. When we figured out that gas purchases would consume most of the money we had raised we instead bought bikes and took a 600 mile bicycle trek along the California coast and into Baja California.

Something similar happened on a much smaller scale here in Texas during hurricane Harvy. Because of storm causing a disruption to the oil industry people started to freak out & worry about a gas shortage. Which then caused a gas shortage. The reality was there was a logistical shortage, plenty of gass just not enough transportation for it. It lasted about a weekend or so.
@anitathompson65715 жыл бұрын
I worked at Disney World Jan 1979 until Mar 1980. I lived in Titusville and commuted and worked weekends, and full-time through any school vacations and summer. Many times I would pull into a gas station for there to be none available. I still have the letter Disney sent us regarding the shortage. I remember they allowed us to gas-up at a station on Disney property, in the back somewhere. I was only 16-17 years old. But it’s where I wanted to work and by gosh I did it. I asked my folks in recent years why they even let me do that having such a long commute. They told me they didn’t believe I would stick with it. Haha!

I know I’ve been curious too! I love history but... I’m hesitant about making videos because of the difficulty in finding and obtaining footage that won’t get me flagged. And just showing a few photos or just me talking doesn’t seem like a great option. It’s a sticky problem! But Rob’s videos are so... pleasant to watch, and his scripts are always top notch. I’m a writer, editor by day, and the quality is always a haven in a sea of cliches and dangling participles. 😂 He just does this so well.

Ahhhh! FEAR!!!! I live in Houston, Texas. Hurricane Katrina happened in 2005 (almost destroyed New Orleans) Shortly after that, Hurricane Rita sent people in a panic. *disclosure* I never left. Lots of people evacuated (unnecessarily) and I'm sure you know the rest of the story. Point WAS Houston, TX is 50 feet ABOVE sea level, as New Orleans was below sea level. Houston (not) built in a bowl with a lake on side and a river on the other. Then there's was 911lower attendance & some ride manufactures to go bankrupt that put a dent in the industry , 2008-9 recession, Oh! and the hurricane 2 years ago that shut down WDW resort. You have to be 3 or 4 "chess moves" ahead If you want to survive.

What do you think of the idea that Nintendo is the Disney of video games? Edit: I should explain what I mean better, in the sense that, there is an idea of a 'Disney touch' and there is also an idea of a 'Nintendo touch' in a way. There both known for being controlling and perfectionists. (granted in somewhat different ways) Nintendo bought video games back from the great crash. in the modern day directly comparing the 2 companies... well dosen't work very well which is why I explained my question, but Nintendo is even older then Disney itself, making a more in depth comparesent on the two could be an interesting venture.
@SirBlackReeds5 жыл бұрын
It partly depends on which era of Disney you're referring to. Additionally, the fact that Disney had its own video games division(s) makes that comparison more complicated.

Toe-MAY-Toe Toe-MAH-toe... ...he's American, and almost every American speaker pronounces it the way he does. That's not to say that your pronunciation isn't correct, just that when enough people do it, it's considered acceptable. Like how there are two ways of pronouncing "either" even though there's that rule where if a soft E is immediately followed by another vowel, it becomes a hard E.
@kevincarr775 жыл бұрын
@@UmmYeahOk No, this isn't the same thing. This is a nationality not a fruit. To assert that it's correct just because many people say it that way is a denigration to the Irani and borders on racist. If it were your nationality and people repeatedly mispronounced it, I'm sure you would want people to understand the current way to say it.
@UmmYeahOk5 жыл бұрын
kevin carr essentially what this is, is “Illinois.” The S is silent, but A LOT of people still pronounce it. Some that even live there that do, but odds are good that if you pronounce the S in front of someone who doesn’t, THAT person is going to correct you. Say that you’re wrong, and probably also insult you for it. Because it’s IL and that’s what they do. But the other person never intended to pronounce it differently. They grew up hearing it only one way. Just like Iraq and Iran, the only people I hear that pronounce it EEraq and EEran are news anchors and politicians. So I tend to read it this way too, but in conversation, I would probably pronounce it “I” because that’s how everyone around me pronounced it, and I just don’t think about it.
@thunderfoot115 жыл бұрын
@@UmmYeahOk Because the S IS silent! :) @Kevin Carr to imply that mispronouncing the name of a country/place name borders on racism is, quiet frankly, being overly sensitive. Incorrect, yes, it is that, but ignorance can be corrected through instruction - racism is choice often made on grounds of perception. And as an asides, it's more correctly pronounced EAR-ron (Iran) and EAR-ach (Iraq). :D
