Disney's Humor Problem

This is an issue I've been noticing with Disney for a while. Disney's most recent era seems to keep using the same style of humor. People have been complaining about Disney giving their female protagonists the same personality, which I've been complaining about as well. However, I haven't seen anyone complaining about Disney's humor problem and how over-the-top, disruptive, and repetitive it is. So I thought I though make a video analyzing it. Hopefully it'll benefit from the algorithm like my last video did but also inspire others to talk about this as well. Keep in mind this is my opinion and that I have the power to delete your comments. I hope you enjoy the video. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. I’m so glad someone finally made a video about this! To me, Disney’s humor works best when the entire movie is a comedy with very few emotional moments. The Emperor’s New Groove immediately comes to mind as one of their best, since there were actual comedians in the writer’s room that were able to make the jokes work. Disney’s problem seems to be them always wanting to have their cake and eat it too, rather than picking a tone for their films and sticking to it. I’m not saying emotional films can’t have jokes, but modern Disney seems to prioritize humor in stories that aren’t about that.

When you say Disney, do you just mean Walt Disney Animation? Because, remember, most Pixar films, at least the ones made by Pete Docter, try to "have their cake and eat it too" all the time. Don't forget about Disney Television Animation, especially in the 2010s after Phineas and Ferb became popular. most of their shows have become popular for being half a slice of life sitcom, half adventurous fantastical drama. Most of them have been known for making their viewers cry more than a few times, and making them laugh just as hard, and not feeling forced.

Yeah, i feel like these days a lot of their humour feels forced and embarrasing, unlike the good old days when it totally flew organicaly with the context

The modern humor of Disney movies gives off the same vibe of superhero movies. Super forced, very disruptive in the moment. For example, in the Joss Whedon version of Justice League, Barry, and Victor aka The Flash and Cyborg are digging up Clark's grave. It's supposed to be a serious and well-meaning moment because they just lost their team member/friend and when they finish digging Barry tries to give Victor a fist bump. Victor rejects and Barry says, "Oh not ready for anything racially charged" Something stupid like that. It just ruined the whole moment. Then again anything directed by Joss Whedon and his style of humor just is cringey as hell. As in how he had the Hulk fall on top of Black Widow's chest and then he did the same thing with the Flash falling on Wonder Woman's chest. That joke wasn't funny what made him think that it would be funny a second time? Now on to the Disney Humor problem. Ever since yours and Tessa's videos about Disney's adorkable problem I just cringe when I see characters babbling or doing awkward hand gestures. The reason I cringe is that it either doesn't fit with the character or its just disruptive and very forcibly placed. I wish they would have cut the pee joke from Moana as a matter of fact there are several jokes I wish they would have cut from the newer Disney movies. I think a great example having humorous moments that feel organic is in the live action version of Little Mermaid where Ariel and Flounder are exploring the ship, and she holds up the fork to Flounder making how he will be in the sea. She is exploring the things from the human world. The joke reminds me of when girls go shopping and they try on fancy clothes and talk in funny fancy accents. She got serious when she needed to be. Someone cracking jokes every five seconds during a serious battle is so disruptive and it pulls me out of the movie. I am not even sure I can watch the newer Disney movies without cringing at the humor. I want to be able enjoy them but I can't without my imagination on how to improve the movies running wild. Anyways if this comment all over the board I am sorry, but I am just letting out my frustration.

I might one day, since their style of humor, while it can vary, does have a recognizable style to it that makes people instantly recognize it as Dreamworks. Not to mention it clearly has influenced the style of humor that we see in 2D movies. It also shows why their movies tend to be hit or miss.
