The actor who played Quasimodo in that production sounds exactly like the one in the animated version. And he sings really good too! I give him a 10 out of 10 for his best performance.

OK, for everyone criticizing this stage production, (and I won't stop you), I want you to look at this. Look how professional this is done, look how much work went into the set design, and look at how much effort and even talent that these actors/actresses convey. Tell me that other than the actual Disney movie that you've seen a better re-enactment. O.K., probably not, because I haven't actually found many other re-enactments, but as one of the originals, this is extremely impressive. I could watch this over and over, just as I watch the movie over and over. So for all the criticisms towards actors overplaying or underplaying their characters, I encourage you to just sit back and enjoy the musical.

Watch La Jolla Playhouse bud...there's another really good (non German one) I've seen here...this one kind of sucks. I like a lot of their productions, their production of Phantom Of The Opera was amazing (I actually saw a pro production of Phantom at Princess of Wales) and Beauty and the Beast was great! The set-design is great! But...it's poorly casted.
@MovieEnforcer4 жыл бұрын
Nicolas Gralewicz that one is overrated. This one is far superior.

This is an absolutely INCREDIBLE production for a freaking high school. The performances included. These are teenagers, their voices haven't even finished developing and they aren't professionally trained singers yet, what they accomplished is really great. I mean yeah it's a private Christian school so they've got the money for it, but the cast is talented, you're just seeing them years before they make it to Broadway and are professionals.

I recently finished the newest production of Hunchback in King’s Academy’s youtube channel. It is so amazing to see how far this school has come. Even in 2013, the production value is unbelievable and the talent is on point. Amazing performances!

Honestly I prefer this version. Yes I even like The Gargoyles. My only issues with with show are Frollo's costume and the cop out ending.
@ShadowDJ9411 жыл бұрын
Though I can say this, the actors in this are good. The guy playing Quasi is a good choice and while he isn't like Hulce, he sure plays the role exactly like how he was in the film, and that's a good thing :) Can't wait to see this get to Broadway.

As amazing as this is, and as blown away as I am that this is a high school production, I feel like they missed a good opportunity during "Out There" by not having some extras walking out on the stage going about their merry lives for Quasi Modo to point to. I feel like that would have added a great touch and helped make that scene so much bigger.

this is so awesome! I'm so happy this exists. Hunchback is the perfect disney movie to be made into a musical. The only problem is, I'd like it to be more dramatic like Les Mis, it is a Victor Hugo work after all, but the soundtrack is so great it needs to be the same... I've thought about this a lot... hehehehe

Frollo: *falls down screaming from the cathedral then lands on the cobblestones and dies* Clopin: *enters the scene and stares at Frollo's dead carcass in astonishment* Oookaaaaay! For stage Frollo has to be loud because unlike a movie there are no intimate close ups, you have to convey more through your voice than your face on stage
@EmmanuelleLunada201011 жыл бұрын
Wow, Frollo is more impatient in this show, rushing through Quasimodo's alphabet. In the movie, at least he takes the time to listen.
@millyskittles107110 жыл бұрын
I don't mind the Quasimodo character, but Tom Hulce had so much more emotion in his voice for 'Out There'. He's an okay singer, but I thought it was somewhat lacking.

Why did they change Phoebus's name to Edric or Cedric (it's hard to make out what they said)? The change seems random and doesn't really make sense.

Frollo is a little too over-the-top in this version. He had a way of being intimidating while still not resorting to shouting in the movie.
@xxkewldudexx10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but that was because he had the pipes of Tony Jay (one of the classic "villain" actors in my opinion, along with Tim Curry).

Keep in mind, this is a staged production. Not a movie. There are people in that audience hundreds of feet away from him and not looking at a camera that's right in his face.

Connor Lachmanec Thanks for the question. In the past few years, The King's Academy has acted as a Disney test theater for The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Beauty and the Beast. Quasimodo's actor plays the character very well but he is no Tom Hulce in the vocal department. I also think Frollo's actor is missing the point of the character a little. He is making him a bit flat and one-dimensional. We will see later on if he manages to bring that essential hypocrisy and Catholic guilt to the character. It is a shame that this production has softened him somewhat in its added sections and altered lines.

obviously you can't compare this guy and tom Hulce because he's a baritone and Hulce is a full tenor!
