It's just so tragic the way Brooks moved on from the relationship. Not the fact that he moved on, but how. Even if it didn't work out, she was still good to him the whole time and helped him attain independence and not be fully reliant on his mother. She cared for him when he was most in need and loved him both with and without money. Even if though it didn't work out and it wasn't meant to be after all and their dreams pulled them on two different paths, she still should have remained an important person to him that greatly impacted his life and helped him become a better person. Instead we get him throwing darts at her picture and making comments like "Pulling a Jessie" in reference to running. It's more tragic than the actual break up. Guess it's more evidence that everything was rushed while he was in a state of rebellion against his mother.

That said, Brooks did put a lot of pressure on Jessie. First he proposed after only a few months of dating, when they were both still very young (22 and 25). Then, he tried to force her to move to Africa on extremely short notice. So I can see why Jessie ran out, but the way she did it was pretty cruel.

Yeah that's an excuse we could throw at many shows. I can think of a lot of shows that were not about love specifically but they chose to add that concept. A good example of this is ATLA. Show not about romance also aimed at a younger audience (but appealed to a lot more because quality writing). because the romance added was done poorly, it's the weakest element in the show. It wasnt properly developed and so a lot of the fanbase finds it cute but even longtimes fans admit its not done well (same as korra unfortunately). You can find soooo many multi hour videos breaking it down the issues. A weak element can bring down the final product. So I think it's pretty normal to discuss why the do or don't work. Romance tends to be done poorly when the people writing it don't understand why romance is compelling. Although I think the romance in Jesse is actually handled much better.

Watching the analysis though it confirms for me the best thing that came out of this was a video done in 2018 where the actors who played Brooks and Tony watched a compilation of their scenes and pretended to fight over the fact that they lost Jessi.

Jessie was arguably the channel's most decade-defining show. Arguably because some people say this about Good Luck Charlie and Austin & Ally. But Jessie was more popular than either of those shows combined. It’s the 2010s Disney show that I see people talk about the most aside from Gravity Falls! That’s how popular it was and still is! The reason I think the show was special because they’ve done something that neither Disney nor Nickelodeon have done before which is a live action series about someone in their late teens trying to live an independent young adult life. Tho, to be fair, Nick almost had this had the sequel series to Clarissa Explains It All gotten picked up. Even more interesting was that she moved to New York City! Did Clarissa inspire Jessie? I know Clarissa inspired teen sitcoms in general but the spin-off pilot alone has to have inspired Jessie! But it suffered a lot from Pamela Eells O'Connell's predictable and problematic writing and even the redeemable stuff was ruined by the last two seasons. And their spin-off has grown to be their SpongeBob and TTG in terms of divisiveness between its' audience and lasting longer than any other show. This show got more and more complicated to sit through that it became one of the few shows I quit watching. But I did return for the series finale. As I’ve also done for Girl Meets World, The Fairly Oddparents and The Big Bang Theory. What’s on your series finale return list?

I actrually liked the idea of Jessie and Brooks (sorry if I spelt his name wrong). Her officially moving on from Tony as their relationship didn't work out and I wish they stuck with that. I found it satisfying that Jessie has this horrible love life but finds a well off guy who happens to be sweet and a great guy and doesn't care about his money as shown in an episode. Yes, their story was a bit rushed which is why I wish he got to become more a recurring character as we see their relationship grow. I love that the kids had to basically get over themselves and support Jessie's relationship as she is happy. My favourite scene in the show to this day, Bertum's speech to the kids after the kids tried to stop Jessie's wedding. Like if they stretched out Brookes and Jessie's love story till the finale they could've had her get an acting job and getting married (or not but being with Brookes either way) and ending the story, going from not being able to get an acting job and having a horrible love life to getting a life changing role and being with a great guy (not that she has to be with a guy). Either way I wish they dropped the Tony relationship as they don't even officially get back together by the end. I liked Brookes (wasn't perfect but I think that's due to the short amount of time) and I didn't like the kids specifically the girls hating on him because he's not Tony.

I never ship Jessie with Tony and Brooks. When she was in a relationship with Tony, she and Tony always have miscommunication, incompatibility and lack of chemistry, which leads to Jessie having regrets and second-thoughts with Tony. She also has a lot of similar regrets and second-thoughts with Brooks who rushes her into marrying her, even though Jessie makes no money as a nanny and they are only marrying because of Brooks’s job in Africa. To answer your question to us, my sister recently got married and she did invite her ex. I think it depends on the situation of all parties involved. My sister and her ex ended on good terms as their lifestyles just weren’t suited to one another but did stay in contact as there was no bad blood and they interested in keeping up with one another’s successes in life. Because her ex was still in her life but in friendship way, her now husband also became friends with him and the two now have a nice bond. Her ex also has moved on and is dating a new woman who was also in attendance at the wedding. That’s not to say that any ex should be involved in a wedding because there are plenty of men from my sisters past that she would have NEVER reached out to when she’s about to be happily married to her dream man. I guess it all depends on the ex’s relationship with the bride and groom, what the intentions are from both sides, the situation that everyone is currently in and whether the ex’s presence would add to or take away from the wedding.

I think Jessie and Tony are a very average ship, if that makes sense. They're not a terrible ship by any means, but I don't think they are an amazing ship either. There are actually times when I struggle to see the chemistry between the two of them and there's a part of me that actually thinks they would've been better off having a purely platonic relationship instead. I probably would've liked their relationship a little bit more, had it not been SO obvious that they'd be together from the very first episode. When Tony helped Jessie after the taxi driver threw her out of the taxi in the pilot episode and she stared into his eyes, I KNEW they'd be together after that and there's something about ships being so obvious and predictable that really stop me from caring that much about a ship. With that being said, it was also very obvious that Brooks and Jessie would start dating - and yet, I liked their relationship a little better than Jessie and Tony's. Which kind of surprises me, as I didn't remember liking Brooks and Jessie's relationship when I first watched the show. However, after rewatching the show recently, I noticed that Brooks and Jessie seemed to have more chemistry than Jessie and Tony. That's not to say that I wanted Jessie and Brooks to end up together, because I'm not sure if I would've wanted them to be the endgame ship either. But you could feel more chemistry in the moments that Brooks and Jessie had together compared to most Jessie and Tony moments. I say MOST because there were some Jessie and Tony moments I liked. My favorite Tessie moment is during the season 4 Halloween episode when Jessie thanks Tony for helping her and Tony says "well of course, it's you" - see, if they would've had more moments like that, then I probably would've shipped them more! That moment was so incredibly sweet and heartwarming🥰 They definitely should've had more moments together overall, especially in the last season. Not giving a ship enough moments together is another thing that ruins ships for me - you can't expect me to get invested into a ship that barely has any time to develop their relationship. Now Jessie and Tony isn't the worst example of this - Parker/Victoria and Lou/Ryder from Bunk'd is definitely the worst when it comes to rushed ships with lazy writing and barely any focus in the show (I seriously dislike both of those ships so much). But anyways, yeah, I think Jessie and Tony's relationship would've been much more interesting to me if Tony was in more episodes and if the show focused on Jessie and Tony's romance a little bit more. Overall, I think Jessie and Tony's love story is okay and I guess their relationship is good enough as it is. But it's just not a ship that I really care about all that much - which I hate to say that as I really wish I loved their relationship more than I do. I've been looking for a canon ship that I would actually really care about. I have a few canon ships that I like, but none of them even come close to having the chemistry that I think my favorite non-canon ships have😭 If y'all have any recommendation for canon ships (particularly friends to lovers or enemies to lovers), then please let me know, I'm really desperate at this point to have at least one canon ship besides Auslly (because Auslly is actually a really great ship) that I don't think is just forced or that it's just predictable, shallow romance. Not sure if someone commented this already but the reason that the lights appear to be twinkling in the camera is due to the shutter speed. The speed to the lights look consistent to the human eye but the gaps in the flow of them is caught by the camera. This also happens when filming car headlights sometimes too. To fix it you could try changing the shutter speed if that is possible with the camera that you are using or try changing the lighting in the room to make it brighter which might help it appear as though it is not blinking. I loved the analisis, sorry this comment is a long one but you asked why the lights were doing that and I wanted to be helpful.

Just based on your recap I actually like emma and zuri constantly talking about how they're meant to be because it's a cute character beat for them. These kids are arbitrarily convinced that the only 2 young adults that they know are soulmates, and fighting for them to be together is their way of showing they care about them even though it's a little out of touch. I think it would have been really cute if tony and jessie had also happened to fall in love and find a connection separate from that through the forced proximity of living/working together and being pushed together, but it doesn't seem like we ever really got that for them while they were in a relationship.

I agree! Aside from a few moments, I don't think they have much chemistry together at all. While I don't dislike them as a couple, I do think they would've been better off as friends. Most of the time, their relationship seems more platonic than romantic in my opinion.

dont apologize, thank you😭i wasn't even really that much into romance when i was watching this show (i mean i was like 8 when the show came out lol) but i never was too fond of this couple. At the beginning i was like "oh this is cute" but I just found Tony to be so boring and annoying, especially as the show went on. And when Jessie got with Brooks, i was SO HAPPY. i actually liked them which shocked me. they were the first tv couple i actually felt butterflies for. and i was so upset when they broke up and she ended up back with Tony🙄

honestly i think it’s because disney doesn’t really have young adult ships, they have teens, and parents but none characters that are 20-somethings so they kinda ain’t know how to write them in my opinion

I mean... this might be a little more exclusive to the South Asian community, but I've been to a lot of weddings where people's exes were there because they're family friends and nobody wants to explain to their parents that they used to date the bride or groom. I had a cousin whose ex-boyfriend MC'd the reception and props to him for not being weird about it because it's such an awkward situation.

Thought I'd give my two cents on the whole 'inviting your ex to the wedding' thing. My best friend is my ex-partner and I would definitely love for him to be at my wedding, I couldn't imagine him not being there. In my head, it seems like Tony and Jessie are still close, so having a close friend come to the wedding makes sense, especially since the kids know him well. However, the whole 'still having feelings' thing is definitely where I draw the line. Communication is vital and it seems just messy having him attend.

I loved Tony and Jessie together. (I might be biased cause I had a crush on Tony). But the beginning was really cute. They both were constantly having butterflies around each other. I loved seeing them compliment each other, especially Tony. I loved how he gushed over her. He was just a sweet person. As a child, I understood Jessie’s perspective about wanting to be married. However, I viewed Jessie as mature. As an adult, I understand Tony. 18-19 is a kid and they were only dating for a year. Tony is likely a little older than Jessie, so he probably understood the concept of marriage more in depth. However, even after the break up, they still cared for each other. Brooks literally hated Jessie I understand people feel different things, but I love that Tony tried to stay respectful and caring. Jessie knew it was awkward seeing him, but she didn’t stop caring about him. I think she was the happiest with Tony. I believe their quirks bounced off of each other well. I wish they utilized Tony more because he bonded really well with the Ross family. Any time I watch Jessie, I am glad to see them together. They aren’t the best of the best, but they’re very likable to me.

I’d love if you could do an analysis on Myles and alya from backstage. Their chemistry is really good together and they have a great friends to lovers dynamic until they break up in season 1. Unlike tessie though we get a masterful (by Disney standards) season long slow burn to them getting back together in season 2. I think you’d like it👍🏿

I stopped watching Disney in the middle of Jessie so I literally forgot Tony existed, but I did remember the kids. But also if you want a ship with not a lot of on-screen content, I'd recommend looking up Gunther and Cece from Shake it Up. If I remember from my teenage self, they only had a handful of episodes to really explore a fun antagonists to lovers dynamic before the character of Gunther was removed.

Jessie was a weird show to me, because it started right as I was starting to be less interested in Disney Channel, and for some reason in my head Jessie kind of became a symbol of my dwindling love for it. I did watch the first and part of the second season I think, but I think I missed a lot of the Tony/Jessie episodes, so I didn't even know that they got together. Watching this has been interesting, I think I would have really loved the show if I was a few years younger when it came out. I think the reason why the lights a twinkling in the camera is because all lights do actually "blink", it's just that the ones that look static to us are blinking too fast for our eyes and brain to see it. The camera, however, works at a different speed and can pick it up if it's slow enough for the camera.

i never watched all of jessie but from what i remembered watching i really wanted jessie and tony together because of how charmingly awkward he was so im glad to see a video about their ship!! also would love if you did a video on jack/kim from kickin it one day!! they were one of my all time favorite couples growing up and i loved watching their relationship (gonna pretend the last season doesnt exist for a minute iykyk) and id love to hear you do a timeline of their whole relationship and give your opinions!!
