As a nature and conservation girlie through and through, I absolutely ADORE that Disney made that little walkway so they wouldn't dredge up the coral reefs in the area! Those are SO important to the ocean's ecosystem. I do agree that they should have put up little signs explaining that and explaining what local wildlife live there and depend on the coral reefs. If I ever get lucky enough to go on a Disney cruise and visit there I will be the weird girl trying to see if I can see any animals in the water and taking way too long to get across the walkway lol

My 8 year old son has some physical limitations (he's fine in small chunks, but does not have the stamina), so we asked about a golf cart for the walkway when we got on the ship. At that point, they told me they did not have all the details for that yet, but took my information and would let me know. Well, that never happened, which I won't complain about since they are just figuring things out. We knew the walk there would be okay for him, and that kid seriously left us in the dust. He then met Molly and Alan on the island, which was a highlight of the trip. We were very happy to have access to a wagon on the way back, though, because by that time, he did not have the stamina for the walk.

I have mobility issues so when I first saw the dock I was concerned, but my next thought was "I bet there's a reef there." Yes I wish it was shorter, but I personally put protecting reefs above my desire to lay on the beach, especially as they do have transport for people with mobility difficulties. If they damaged the reef there would have been way more uproar than the walk has caused. I agree signs would have helped a lot. Maybe some sculptures of the local sea creatures would have been cool and helped break up the intimidating sight of the walkway. Just something to make it look less industrial.

I think the Bahamian theming is so on-point, and I really like that they contacted Bahamian locals for the design and educational aspect. The costuming on the characters is 🤌🏻. I did scream when I saw the buffet and the flies. Caribbean flies are a nighhhttmarrreeee. Had to deal with them in Turks and Caicos. They should set up the sternos with lemon to deter the flies. When they get bad like this, you can't even eat outside. Also, really surprised at that long walk off the boat. There should definitely be a canopy for the entire walk, fans at set points, benches, garbage cans, and perhaps a vendor set up at the halfway point to sell or hand out water. The Junkanoo celebration was so good! Bahamians don't play around with this, the competition between the teams with the elaborate dancing and drumming and the costuming is cutthroat. If you can catch actual Junkanoo, I would highly recommend it.
@FunAtDisney
@FunAtDisney 2 ай бұрын
Or knowing full well there were all these flys why did they not build indoor areas to get your food? Gee…what a concept! The Bahamian theming is good yes, but this whole place is very generic and could be for any cruise line as there is nearly zero Disney theming - And isn’t that why folks go on a Disney Cruise? I have not yet been on a cruise, but I would choose Castaway Cay over this for its immersive Disney theming and story.

If it helps anyone I just got back from a cruise that included Lookout point and the flies are not nearly as bad any more. The eating areas have high speed fans blowing to keep the bugs away and they’ve done something to where I don’t see any flies at the serving stations. The walk out from the ship wasn’t that bad for us. It didn’t feel much longer than the walk from the first tram stop to the ship on Castaway. It was middle 80s and very breezy. It only took us 10 minutes out and probably 15 back. Disney is allowing guests to stage in one of the lounges for first come First served cart transport out to the island as well.

I live in Florida, so I deal with Flies and Bugs, but that is a ridiculous situation at a Food and Drink Stations. Disney better fix that ASAP, no way I am paying Disney Rates for fly feces on my food. Every influencer video I have watched on the new Disney Beach shows the same infestation and they comment on what a turn off it is to see the food being tainted with bacteria from insects. You could tell Molly was doing her best not to show how turned off she was by that situation, always the Disney Promoter. There is no way to say it nicely, but the walk in from the ship is far too long in an unshaded heat and the Fly infestation are major issues that Disney will have to fix if they want to be compared to Coco Cay as a Mega Beach Resort. Right now its a "No Go" especially when you are paying a inflated Disney Rate that they promote proclaiming High Disney Standards and Quality.

It would be good for everyone to know about how the concierge gets you personal booking, first dibs on port adventures, and a different room experience. Well... as a Caribbean person, especially in the wake of Hurricanes Dorian and recently Beryl... I can figure out out why there is no cover or vehicles on that walkway. Me thinks it makes for less killer projectiles to secure, retrieve, repair or replace annually after storm winds and less debris wrecking the ocean bed and seashore as well. Disney is leasing their resorts from the Bahamian People, whose rights and needs will always be prioritized before those of guests. There are limits which will be respected by guests and enforced by law enforcement and citizens alike. Reminding people of this often ruins "The Magic", but maybe it should be clearly stated at the beginning so that everyone's expectations are well managed as the Island is shared with residents with no ties to Disney and/or other foreign entities. With respect to flies, ants or other pests, there is always a period of adjustment after developing untouched areas as removal of the native flora and fauna will cause imbalances in those areas and their surroundings. I'm sure the geckos, lizards, birds, bats and other smaller mammals that lost their home to development loved those flies.

$25.50, Whistle Pig small batch rye is a higher end spirit and if a 2 ounce pour and smoked seems about right for a high end cocktail. The good thing is it is strong and one is probably plenty! Doesn’t compare to the frozen one she had which was only $9 and made with Angel’s Envy (not the rye) although it was small and given it was frozen it was probably to very strong esp since it wasn’t very Bourbon forward.

Protecting the reef is the most important thing by far but I appreciate that they also built the walkway to not have to need tendering. As someone who is in a wheelchair, tendering can be prohibitive.

I hate eating outside because of the "bug problem" (i don't know why i put that i quotes) but I also hate yellow jackets and wasps. So i would eat on the ship (if possible) before coming to the island. I also hate the beach with a die hard passion, so i would stay on the boat and enjoy the adults only pool (i'm in my 30s and don't have kids either, swinging single ....but otherwise that's what i would do to avoid the flies, if i'm allowed to stay on the boat). Don't worry Molly, I think we all had a crush on him. We were kids, we didn't know better.

The QUALITY of content (both educational and entertaining) from mammoth club is literally unmatched. Top tier human beings and hands down the least basic Disney content creators out there. Thank you for always being so inclusive and transparent in the content you share. I feel like Disney should be taking notes from y’all. Lol ❤️🦣✨

I have a bee sting allergy AND im afraid of flies. It would be a dining "experience" for me. The island looks fun (and out of my budget) but i wouldnt eat anything. 😭

Totally agree with everyone appreciating your explanation of the long walkway, your focus on nature and culture, and your balanced review of the pros and cons. This is why I support and watch everything you post and click away from most other creators.

I haven’t seen a single thing that makes me want to visit Lookout Cay. Honestly I don’t think I’d even want to get off the ship if I were to visit Lookout Cay right now.

That's a sad mentality, especially since these are Bahamians that are getting work, educating tourists, and sharing their islands and their culture. Outside of the built up areas in the Bahamas, people don't make much money, and are very reliant on tourism. To say something like this is extremely insulting to the Bahamian people.

Say it again there’s nothing about this island worth getting off for. I go on vacation to enjoy myself not a charity meet as these previous poster suggested

I was on this sailing (June 19-22), and I agree. I don’t need to revisit Lookout. It will be a ship day for us if it’s part of a future sailing.

It was sooo yummy to see the flies land *ON* the rotisserie chicken that was being carved during the b-roll shots 🤢🤢🤢. They definitely need to get the bugs under control there, especially for the price of a Disney cruise.

If you've ever traveled to Caribbean during fly season, you'll recognize this. These flies will literally land on your food, in your food, on your fork, they are so aggressive. The last time I experienced this, I had to throw my cloth napkin over my food every time I wasn't eating. It's hard to control especially with outdoor eating. They could install some aromatics to deter the flies and install some fans to keep a breeze going. That seems to keep them away.
