2013: Disney releases an animated movie (Planes) in theaters that was initially straight to DVD. 2020: Universal releases an animated movie (Trolls: World Tour) on VOD that initially meant to release in theaters.

Well, at least the people involved with MLP usually takes cliche plots and do something unique or at least make them bearable to watch, but with "Planes" it looks like it'll be taken completely straight.

While Planes wasn't Pixar, I have to agree with your assessment. Cars 2 was just bleh and Brave was good for the first 45 minutes, but then they blew it. Monsters University was a step in the right direction, but they still have a ways to go before they achieve their old status of alpha animation studio.

maybe this would've been better as an animated short ?

At best, this movie could have been stretched into the first season of a new "World of Cars" Disney show.

Really? A Direct-To-Video Movie Being Released in theaters, the 80's ended almost 25 years, stop fucking releasing these cheap ass cartoon movies. Theatrical Animation is getting more and more sophisicated with each year, you need to step up your game Disney if you really want to compete with rival studios. Hell, even "Equestria Girls" had more class than your movie.
