Our elementary school had houses directly on the other side of a tall cement wall, almost just like this. I remember being freaked out too if a ball went over, I think because of the mystery of what happened to the ball and that we'd never get it back. Well, if we assume that the Class of 2006 graduation is 12th grade, that would set the show in 1997/98. If Menlo is not overly surprised by the 5th and 6th Grader's Club in Recess: Taking The 5th Grade, I'd guess he's a year older than TJ and crew, which would make him a 1st Grader, possibly an early 2nd Grader in '94. Still, doesn't explain how he hasn't aged a bit in nearly 4 years. I guess it's just a "Hey, look at this!" by the animators to see if you'd notice.

I think I just found out why I love Recess so much. Some episodes (like this one) demonstrates how wild children imagination can be. Wondering what's on the other side, where did all the balls go? Or the episode where TJ and Spinelli kiss, (I KNOW nothing special will happen, a kiss is a kiss lol) but their reaction is still great. And I loved how everybody wanted to watch.xD Other episodes I loved are "the box" and "rainy days". A lot of episodes are like an adult's memories about the good old days of just being a kid sprinkled with madeup (positive) overreactions of key happenings and tons of fun. I have no idea if this is making any sense but some Arnold episodes have the same vibes, to an extent Gumball as well (the video episode)!
