Oh man, I was *obsessed* with this game when I was a kid. Who else remembers Dancing Inferno, Cute or Boot, Falling Chairs, trade rooms, Tomorrowland's magic pin quests, Gator Waiter, and diligently reading Yavn Speaks? I was always frustrated by the items that you could only get at the real parks, since I don't live close to Disneyland or Disney World. Disney shut the game down a month before my family was finally able to go to the real park and I'm still bitter.

I never had the expectation to ever be able to afford Disney as a child, I found VMK on a whim and I have to say I was so enthralled in it, it is literally my childhood. I was devastated when they closed it. I FINALLY made it to Disney for real when my own son was 6. The magic though from vmk ran so deep for me and will forever be my childhood.

VMK has ride souvenir pin pretzel and even firework show and even customize your own music and even have your room filled with souvenir now and even meet and greet with disney character that looks new or not new to the disney theme parks now wdw and disneyland took over disney VMK and drain all their fun and enjoyment now :(

I use to be OBSESSED with this game! I would go on every single day, creating rooms and engaging in the various quests and RPG elements. I tried to get into the game that replaced it (the "VMK" with a historic twist) but I couldn't... I still oddly enough get ads for it! Now, thanks to MyVMK, I can still be obsessed! I go on for at least an hour every day!

Interesting! I never had heard of this, but it looks similar to Nickelodeon's old game Nicktropolis (and The Club, essentially an updated version of Nicktropolis). I wonder if they used a similar engine or something. Nicktropolis would be a neat topic for a video, although sadly it doesn't have a revived version like VMK. :(

Here was my VMK story: I would routinely try and pickup female characters, take them back to my VMK house and say that anything I have is theirs and I would freely trade with them. I had multiple girlfriends on here and one day, they both were online. I was hanging out with one when the other one decided to pop in unexpectedly. A huge fight ensued and lost two girls at once. Great times as a 10 year old.

I loved this game so much, I used to collect all the hats, and actually did have them all! The Stitch hat was really hard to get, and then after a while, I moved onto other games then rediscovered my love for it and tried to go back to get the message “Your account was deleted due to inactivity for 6 months”, so basically they deleted my account. I was still pretty young so I got kinda upset, nearly cried, and then rage quit and never tried to play it again. I eventually heard they deleted it yeaaaaaaars later, it still made me sad cos I had so many good memories. Also, I just remembered, because it was a kids game, moderators always had to be online so I remember sitting at my laptop waiting for 10am EST everyday (since I was in the U.K., this meant waiting until 3pm or going on after school!)

For the firework one, you have to click the fireworks and swap the color of your cursor or whatever so you’re hitting the right color firework with the right color cursor, I think. I haven’t played VMK in probably more than ten years

Maaaan.... VMK consumed my early teen life lol. I started playing day one and became a "community leader" at some point... which really didn't mean much apart from having a fancy badge and a CL_ added to your name, but it made people feel superior that's for sure haha. I can't remember what it was called exactly, but Disney had this online service on the DS where your could unlock outfits and stuff for your avatar across their games for the system, e.g, I had the Bolt and High School Musical games for the DS and unlocked outfits from the evil guys from Bolt and I think like an East High Jersey or something I couldn't ever get online cause I didn't have it set up but I would always play around with the avatar maker Idk if anyone has talked about that already but it was kind of bizarre yet pretty cool to me

VMK was the best back then! Trying to play it again was very clunky though, even though MyVMK is a wonderful recreation with updated stuff, and frequent events and additions, the game itself is way too clunky for me lol. My mom worked at Disney while I was a kid, and I'd honestly 90% of me only wanted to go to get those virtual goodies! A big part of the game for me was the guest rooms ( aka player rooms ), and the best use for your virtual currency - credits. Decorating was pretty good, you can stack a lot of things. You could even decorate while people were still in the room, which bred a lot of player run games and such. Some of these games could get so popular that you needed to queue up to join. With teleporters, you could link your rooms together, and create mazes or rides - and many people did. Linking a track up to a teleporter, and you get a very lackluster ride, that always had a small loading time to go through - but they were a blast. You can probably find some videos of it on youtube. The staff that moderated the game were very interactive with players though, often just joining popular or unpopular rooms, or opening their own rooms up and hosting quizzes. It was really a treat, and I remember taking photos of staff that visited my room. I wish I knew how to take a screenshot back then, as in-game photos didn't save usernames or if I remember? Still, it was fun. Of course, since this game was for kids, and it's Disney it had a profanity filter. I don't remember there being and option to go without it either to friends or not, but I may be wrong. The in game terms that became common replacements were always fun though. You'd often see in people's little signatures/profile cards if they were 'taken' or not. Good times. There was also a player quest system I believe, where players could make their own quests for others. People used quest machines to trade, but I was never into that stuff, so I can't say more other than that it brought a lot to the game.

You got beer in EPCOT though. There's no beer in Magic Kingdom or Virtual Magic Kingdom (well, except inside Be Our Guest I guess)... Anyway nitpicking aside, I loved this game for the guest rooms and the ability to design themed rooms or games. It's like junior Imagineering school.

I read a book once that heavily featured VMK, and according to the book there was a certain tile that could be clicked and it would enter a secret room that allegedly​ exists in the actual park

I definitely did not forget this website! I was addicted to it and would log in every single day. I never got a full princess dress set, but had the hat and my house was themed to Alice in Wonderland. I was so sad when they got rid of VMK 😭😭

I remember VMK. I loved that game! After that died, I joined a similar virtual world called VFK (Virtual Family Kingdom). There's a lot of players on there who also came from VMK. The resemblance to the virtual world we all loved and the game's mechanics is uncanny. Makes me wonder if it was created by the same team.

I remember playing this as a kid and being annoyed of needing to wait in the morning for it to open up. Is okay with my cousin while we talked on the phone and we’d get co fused when we’d go to another screen and the other person wasn’t there since there were multiple “versions” of each screen

I definitely remembered playing this MMO before being unable to log in after a year playing it which is probably for the best because a year later, the site shutdown. The pirate ship game, monorails, boat ride, etc. Though is an action I now regret. That is typing boot the owner about 5 times I myself was booted off from her room. For the girl I typed 'Boot the owner', you probably got over it or forgot about it, but I'm sorry for typing that. I was an insensitive 12 year old and I matured since.
