Its the complete Terror of not knowing whats hiding under the murky water and fearing itll jump out and attack me. And now to share a personal story probably explaning my fear. I remember as a kid i went to a forest preserve and there was a fish tank installed in the wall of a building there that was extremely murky and filled with kelp and random garbage. I distinctly remember there being an old typewriter and a little tricycle in there. (It was there to get people to stop littering btw) And i was fucking TERRIFIED of it. @the98liner4 жыл бұрын
@@bobthechunkychicken8025 I don't think it's just the lego itself. It's how the rotting effect, murky water, and Brickley's big size and partially submerged body all come together to give that creepy feeling. But honestly, I think usually dark/murky waters are one of the biggest contributing factors in submechanophobia. I'd think that Brickley would be much less scary if he was displayed on land.

Yea, my discomfort stems more from the old, broken and/or decaying aspect of abandoned things more than the underwater part - though for some reason being underwater does make it more unsettling. I also have a thing about eyes that glow or are obscured (i.e. milky cataracts on zombies), so the Flotsam, Jetsam and Tick Tock ones really got to me because of that, and that angler fish can go f- itself. I can't say I have submechanophobia per se as most of the other submerged animatronics didn't bother me at all, it's just the ones with glowing eyes or hinted at being decayed that did.

I gotta ask, as someone who can /kinda/ understand the horror of being stuck in a place you aren't allowed in (but doesn't have submechanophobia)-- what makes being in the water with automated things particularly terrifying to you? My intent isn't to make fun of anyone, nor make a mockery of the fear, I just want to try and understand where it stems from. I imagine it can be several factors, and it's not the same for everyone?
@brianaallbright35254 жыл бұрын
@@mistahchad220 totally valid question. I have submechanophobia to a moderate degree, and honestly couldn’t tell you what about man made things underwater is scary. Even watching documentaries of sunken wrecks like the Titanic, I get shivers and have to turn away whenever they show things under the water. There’s just some irrational part of me that is absolutely terrified of it. And don’t get me wrong, I love swimming, and natural formations under water don’t scare me at all. It’s a weird thing, but I’m so happy it doesn’t keep me from swimming and stuff 😂
@Spider_Mike0234 жыл бұрын
@@mistahchad220 can be diff for many people. For me it’s the sense of wrong essentially. I’m afraid of everything about water, oceans, sea creatures in general on top of automated things. It’s the idea of “I’m not made for this environment, it’s not my domain.” Just like birds rule the sky, sharks and fish rule the ocean, we humans have the land. I’m essentially free game to everything down there, and at a significant disadvantage being in water overall and refuse to go in water (unless up to knees-ish.) so with this fear on top of automated machines that could tower over me, overpower me with the sheer force of hydraulics and compressors, designs that can be purposefully frightening or just uncanny, and possible electricity mixed with water it just sends so many nope signals. Hard to describe honestly which is why a part of me is also very interested in these things like you lol. Idk if that helps but I tried a bit haha.

Is it weird that, as a young kid, the anglerfish was my favourite part of the movie? I ended up doing a presentation on them in the 3rd grade when most others did presentations on whales, dolphins, and more common (less freaky looking) fish. I still love them as an adult, but it certainly gave me a few weird looks as a kid, lol. :)

@@waffleauflauf4213 I mean I guess if I say an anglerfish in real life I wouldn't be as freaked out because from what I understand they are pretty small and I guess harmless to people? I remember there was a story, I think in a commentary track on the DVDs, that enough test audiences found the anglerfish so terrifying that the creators were worried they were going to have to remove the scene. This is what my Norwegian Husband told me about the 2nd Nokken from 17:18 in the video. The thing you claim to be a second Nøkken is probably a troll, as Nøkken are found exclusively residing in lakes and never mentioned as being remotely rock like, since its on land next to the river and made of Rock. Trolls on the other hand where supposed to have Rock, bark and sometimes leathery skin, sometimes with plants growing on them. Poking its head out of a cave opening during daytime is slightly strange though since they have to avoid daylight.
