I think it's also more creepy and scary for people to see robots/animatronics in water because to us that doesn't feel natural. I know, robots themselves are not natural. But animatronics in water, specifically submerged, doesn't feel right. All the wires, and the electrical parts, it shouldn't be able to happen. The lochness monster one is a lot less scary since it’s a practically a whole robot with no exposed parts or machinery. I wanna point out an animatronic ya'll may not cover that gave me nightmares... Rainforest Cafe is known for its lush false plants, hanging vines, talking trees, slithering snakes and majestic, tail-twitching leopards as well as a whole host of other animals and life from the rainforests around the world. Well... I had a bad experience with one. After a bad hurricane hit Galveston, Texas around 2008, we went there and decided to eat at their Rainforest because Rainforest is my favorite restaurant and I begged hard. I didn't know what I was in for. Out front, they have a massive molten rock themed pond where they always had a decently cute crocodile animatronic. When I didn't see the croc, I was dumb enough to give myself nightmare fuel by looking into the deep, dark pond and look at the half-destroyed animatronic. I had a hard time sleeping that night.

Pretty sure that Jaws actually caused my submechanophobia. I watched the movie when I was around 6, and it really scared me to the point where I wouldnt go in the deep end of a pool. Then my dad decided the best way to help me get over my fear was to take me on the Jaws ride while we vacationed at Universal studios, and not tell me what it was. What he didnt know was that I got seated right where the shark came up. While I'm not really scared of sharks any more and I actually have a great deal of respect for them, I REFUSE to go into water where I cant see or touch the bottom.

Thankyou so much for having he Bunyip on the list! It was one of my favourite parts of the tram ride (with the massive plants that "ate" people). I was lucky to see the bunyip in action as well as the coloured changes over the years. There were audio cues where it would growl and roar, the eyes opened as did the mouth when it surfaced. The tour guide that was played over the speakers was amazing and helped sell it as a real creature when you are a kid. Even when I was older on one of my last trips to the Big Banana, it still gave that sense of wonder. Even if they didn't have it come back in the billabong, they could have had it as a photo opportunity dry land prop or something, who knows... maybe it could come back one day.

That’s so true! Seeing only the titanic and the dark water surrounding it is TERRIFYING AS HELL!
@OpalBLeigh4 жыл бұрын
I actually think growing up with the titanic photos and tours of the wreak may be how my phobia started!:) I knew I had it when I saw pictures of the wreck of the USS Arizona. Just chilling there, under the water, deteriorating. With human remains inside. If I fell in I would rather immediately die of a heart attack than deal with the horror.
@Miss_Mikiqo4 жыл бұрын
I already have Automatonophobia and now I have discovered Submechanophobia also dwells within me. However my fear mostly focuses on the ones that are deteriorating and still by some miracle have the ability to still function. Just the thought of how distorted they might sound and how unnatural they move gives me horrible anxiety. 😰

Lucy doesn’t scare me as much, because she’s controlled and aided by humans, and there’s multiple of them so they’re not alone with her, and she has a name so it feels more personal Also the giant crocodile is so amazingly realistic it just looks like an animal, so it’s not as spooky

Imagine this as a hypothetical you're fixing a robot it's under the sea it happens to be quite creepy since most people do them at night to get rid of Taurus you are at night alone since most part don't care about safety your leg gets stuck on something and you are face to face with the animatronic luckily you're not going to run out of oxygen for a while so it could be like 6 hours until they find you staring directly at the creepy animatronic submerged you're free your foot after two or three hours of looking at that monster you swim around it leg get stuck again the animatronic wakes up and starts doing its thing Shaking All Around and dancing and such you're stuck there for another 2 hours as that thing boggles its head up and down turning its head to look at you with the bright luminescent eyes now at night you try to free your foot because you were terrified you instantly swim out as your foot gets on lodged and the animatronic is just sitting there now it's stuck but it's staring at you I'm submerged but just the head.. I would have God damn died having to work on one of those monstrosities and that hypothetical situation I would have quit my job even if I saved last my money for my kids I would have quit that job in a heartbeat and that's why I'm on a street now

OMG I live in Coffs Harbour!! The Bunyip/Monorail has been out of commission for about 15 years but I so vividly remember it scaring the absolute bajeebus out of me as a kid. They've since then built the laser tag and toboggan attractions over the old cement base for the monorail track so its almost certain that its not coming back, but its so cool to see channels like you touch on little pieces of my local history like that!! Really appreciate it guys!

Hey guys. So glad you guys love the Efteling so much. As a big fan and a native Dutch person, it is such an honor to have seen you guys visit my country and even enjoy our biggest theme park and my favorite place. I used to visit it as a kid but now as an adult I get to watch others visit it and enjoy it just like I used too and still do.

I have a deeeep fear of falling onto water with animatronics or any like moving manmade object and having it like catch on my pants or something and i drown because I cant swim away. That and the fear that since I cant see it I dont know what will happen. Like what if I get pulled into the machine and crushed while drowning.

I don't find underwater mechanics scary at all, but Bert the Bunyip makes me wanna vomit. He sets off my fight and flight response instantly. I'm Australian and my family would go to Murray Bridge fairly often because we had family there and in Adelaide. The sound he used to make still haunts me! It is no exaggeration when you say you could hear it a kilometre away. It was so loud! When I was growing up, he was still the old version and he was covered in slime and was all janky. I hate him with every fiber of my being. Decades later and I still get nervous looking at photos of that horrid thing, a fact that my family uses to torture me

I don't have Submechanophobia, but for some reason, that sharp toothed Loch Ness Monster image of its head being close to the camera REALLY gives me the collywobbles. I think it's the realism of the animal like, uncaring eyes and the idea of good ol Nessie having meat rending teeth is what does it.
