As someone who uses Ai for work: I really feel like this is the first movie either mostly written or completely written by Ai. When you get used to Ai, it's writing has a feel about it that you get used to. And this movie has that "feel" in spades.

Dialogues that are info dumps with ZERO subtext. Characters so flat you would never root for them. So much useless slowmotion that you could gain a quarter of the movie time cutting it. Only CGI was ok, hours of my life wasted looking at a fancy screensaver so. Poor Charlie put in this "Hello I'm Not-Han Solo", recruited from the Not-Mos Eisley bar with a Metroid in it. p.s. about nickpicking: Anybody else noticed the first shot of the village with smoke plume going in different directions? xD And I'll stop here.

I wanted to like the movie but just couldn't take it, for all the reasons you listed (quit about halfway thru). They say they can't use the tired old movie tropes, so they do the exact same tropes but swap the gender, race or both...🤦‍♂️ I'm fine if you want to do something new but swapping genders doesn't make it new! And it reveals them to either be idiots or liars (too dumb to know its not new or lying that "tired tropes" was what it was about). I actually thought the exact same thing as you word for word (when i was watching) for about 90% of what you said, I wonder how many others also did.

Yeah, it's Akira Kurosawas Seven Samurai plot. That was later used by Hollywood. When Kurosawa was looking to finance his last big movie Steven Spielberg and George Lucas gave him the money. That should tell you something. Star Wars was based in parts on the hidden fortress. So it's worth looking at most of the Kurosawa films. I'm a Sengoku period fan, that helps ;)

The old black general guy is Djimon Hounsou who is 59 years old! Remember these: Gladiator, Amistad, Blood Diamond, Lara Croft, Stargate, Killing Zoe, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Aquaman, Kings Man? He's in all of them. Btw. i didn't hate Rebel Moon... the female hero was a risk, she can fight but lacks acting skills and charisma and the movie felt rushed at times. I instantly recognized the seven samurai theme. Let's see how the 4 hour version special Snyder cut will look ;)

This movie ripped off everything from warhammer. In warhammer there are forces like the geno 5-2 who are genetically souped up soldiers who aren’t space marines but have upgrades to their genetics. Which can explain why she’s so fast and strong. Edit. Sorry there’s not just that. “The mechanicus militarum.” Instead of 40k adeptus mechanicus and astra militarum. The slain king vs the corpse emperor. His psychic potential and that he appears to people in visions or something of that nature. Even the armour looks fairly similar but what sci fi armour doesn’t. There’s a lot of little things. I’m happier for it. The geno 5-2 reference is just about how she can be quicker and stronger than everybody but appear as a normal ish soldier. The death mask dudes that follow around are like a cross between chaplains and commissars.

Which I find interesting since they make no reference to something like that in Rebel Moon, though I wish they would so it explains why she can manhandle dudes twice her size

I eagerly awaited the Netflix release of this. So that said, this absolutely completely sucked. I hate exposition, and this was full of it. Also, there was absolutely no motivation for any character. There were no arcs, there wasn't even a plot to get in the way of the movie.

I remember people saying this about Zack Snyder's Justice League.... First that it would not ever be made. Second that no one would like it. And abracadabra, the naysayers were wrong.. Good grief, Disney was right to pass on Rebel Moon because Rebel moon is not woken up for Disney woke enough for Disney because that's what Disney is now. Diversity check boxes: The movie That's the title they should have given it. The story is a cringe "current day" version of the seven samurai, everyone in the good guy group is "diverse" (the native american type, the black guy, the other black guy, the woman, the other woman, the asian woman) with cartoonishly badass women going terminator on everyone and as for the only two white men in the group, one of them is a weak, useless coward and the other one a traitor. It was especially funny when one of the two black guys died, so that he'd be replaced by his subordinate white lesbian woman. Same thing they did in the new Star Wars films by the way. They tried to make it so diverse, that it ended up being the opposite of diverse. Everyone was a human, just different races (mexican, asian, black etc) even though the movie is sci-fi and full of alien races, as well as robots. The only non human characters were already established ones from the previous movies for nostalgia reasons (Chewbaka, Yoda, C3PO, R2D2). They showed a bunch of alien races in this movie as well (and robots), but didn't use any of them other than for background noise. Everyone in the group is a human, but of a "diverse" cast. I hate movies that start off with super heavy exposition by the way, so I had a feeling this was gonna be terrible from the get go. It went in from one ear and out the other. Couldn't possibly care less. Also, what's up with all that lens flair? I swear at one point I think I saw the asian woman's red-hot swords have lens flair. The CGI people were so high on lens flairs to the point it became muscle memory and without realising it, added it to two burning pieces of metal. And what is it with wokesters making every villainous army wear nazi uniforms? Can't they at least try and be a little smarter and more subtle with their allegories? Like, literally, it's as if they took a bunch of nazi uniforms from a historical movie's vestiarium and just removed the swastikas to add whatever symbol the bad guys in their movie are using. As for the graphics, I'm far from the type to bash CGI and praise practical effects with every chance I get, but it looked like a video game. Too fake and soulless. Colours were unnaturally bright in many scenes and of course as I mentioned earlier, ridiculous amounts of lens flair everywhere. Lastly, I am convinced that if they didn't have any slow motion in that movie, it would easily be one hour shorter. It felt quite masturbatory from the perspective of the film maker. As if he was trying to show off, but it ended up looking stupid in every instance. Overall, I give it a low 2/10, mostly for the effort.
