Anthony Goody He actually died before the events of Cars 2, but after the events of Cars, so I assume he died before the season that McQueen returned from at the beginning of Cars 2 because that particular season saw the rename of the Piston Cup to the Hudson Hornet Piston Cup in memoir to Doc's death.

Before he received his title of doctor of internal combustion in 1960 later in life most of his friends called him HUD he's well known as Doctor Hudson Hornet on the small business license

Doc Hudson was always a legend during his first race in Watkins Glen he moved to Motor City to Thomasville and friends with junior moon, river Scott and Louise Nash along with his mentor Smokey known for his crafty tactics of the track in 1951 HUD achieved at Hollywood Speedway since he received 3 Piston-Cups at Daytona in 1952 and 1953 HUD secured the lead in the Thomasville 400 against the rookie Leroy Heming everyone witnessed him race since he had 27 wins in a single season and became the champion for all time although he was obsessed with winning 1954 started out strong with 16 wins under his fan belt however tragedy struck in Jun 21 1954 during the fireball beach 500 as HUD power slide to the lead for the finish but when his attempt to win failed he lost control on the sand and suffered a devastating crash that got him severely injured the racing world was shocked of not seeing their beloved hero for quite some time as the doctors explained to Hudson that there's no way he can race again but Hudson does his repairs himself during the nights of studying and repairs just in time for the next season after that Hudson was ready full of hope and return expecting a big welcome of the crowds and reporters however his sponsor said "Sorry kid but you're History" they already requested a #4 racer an unnamed hot shot rookie Hudson had more racing left in him but never had a chance to show everyone the racing world moved on Hudson became a doctor of internal combustion after he vanished in the past 50 years fate had other plans in 2006 McQueen ended up in radiator springs and destroyed their road Hudson took on McQueen's case knowing that he had nothing to do with him while repaving the road he saw his potential and gave him good racing advice as McQueen rudely dismissed during his spin at willy's Butte when McQueen discovered his true identity his secret is in jeopardy forcing McQueen to leave fearing exposure much of town's heartbreak he regretted his decision in the tie breaker race in Los Angeles International Speedway of the dinoco 400 Hudson became McQueen's crew chief with the iconic paint work gaining the recognition he deserved knowing his legacy lived on and saw McQueen does the power slide drift Hudson knew he taught him well and saw McQueen helped strip weathers sacrifices the Piston-Cup Hudson could have been prouder in the years that followed the fabulous Hudson hornet become McQueen's mentor as the train at willy's Butte Hudson could have been happier teaching McQueen and even reached out to his mentor Smokey in the past 50 years to share McQueen's success he sent numerous letters praising McQueen with newspaper clippings of his many wins Smokey mentioned that racing wasn't the part of Hudson's life coaching Lightning was the duo showed the racing world that the Piston-Cup didn't matter about being the best it's all about every racer has the stuff to claim the title Doc Hudson and McQueen had the stuff and together they won 4 Piston-Cups Hudson died in 2009 due to lung cancer in 2011 the Piston-Cup was renamed in doc's honor his office transformed into a museum with the keepsakes of his career in 2017 as storm and the next gen racers appeared McQueen feared being left on the sidelines trying to catch up to Jackson storm and involved in a wreck to end his career as mentor did after years while coaching with his mentor McQueen found purpose on the same path as doc had in becoming a mentor along with trainer turned racer Cruz Ramirez and carried on the legendary racers before her and masters the flip that doc did against Leroy all these years ago McQueen and Cruz honor the champion's memory McQueen dawned his iconic blue color Cruz has the #51 with her new sponsor Dinoco as they train at willy's Butte just like Hudson with McQueen during the best days of his life Hudson raced at Florida International Speedway, Thunderhallow Speedway, Fireball Beach, Hollywood Speedway, Daytona and Watkins Glen Doc Hudson had a lot of stuff🌹🏆🏆🏆

great review. Do you think that in the credits when the king mrs. the king and dale appeared and dale asked where hud is and mater says he not there or busy or something, he means he's dead? If so, that would mean he died right after cars 1. Does the news paper box have the paper with the article about docs crash?

Thanks! That's an interesting theory, but it absolutely did not happen. After Mater said Doc went out for a drive, it flashed to McQueen and Doc racing around Willy's Butte. Also, as the box of this exclusive states, Doc becomes McQueen's mentor and crew chief. I don't believe the box features an article about Doc's crash, but I'll verify that when I get home. If it does have the crash on there, I'll make another comment. Thanks for watching! :)

While returning to Motor City USA in Detroit to blend in and put his racing days behind him cars arrived asking for photographs and pictures one hot rod challenged him to a head to head race which doc declined as he took off his decals added a fresh coat of paint and took off his racing tires until he was recognized at a drive in theater by the crowd and that was a final blow to the engine while starting anew before heading to route 66

If Doc would return in Cars 3 through flashbacks, I really hope Lightning Mcqueen dreams Doc crashing in 1954. Then Mcqueen loses the race to the other rookie, then Mcqueen goes into a mental state where he cant think of anything other than Doc. But then a spirit of Doc comes back to tell Mcqueen he is in a better place and to tell him to race again. Then maybe Mcqueen tells Cruz to keep training him and Mcqueen wins the final race. If this happens, It would be a fantastic movie to the Cars series. Wouldn't you agree?
