Disneyland-Pirates of the Caribbean. The Whole Ride. Sept. 1990.

If you have noticed, I have the Pirates of the Caribbean video taped at different years.
This video 1990.
Has most of the original Pirates from the Caribbean.
At the end of the ride there is a Pirate sitting on some teetering Barrels, drunk and singing and Shooting his pistol at anything. They latter took him out added some Pirates lifting a gold treasure chest up the waterfall, I have that Video too.
Then a few years latter they took thee,s Pirates out and put in Jack Sparrow, I have that as well.
This is my favorite ride in Disneyland, I always videotape it to see what new things are happening on the ride.

I concur! My dad was this type of guy that documented all family vacations always lugging around heavy a VHS camera and all it's accessories. I used to be embarrassed by it, but now appreciate the fact we have videos like this including the footage from the 20,000 League's Underneath The Sea ride that was shut down years ago. I wish I had all his recordings to convert to upload this type of content for people to enjoy .

Peter thank you for your comment this subject interest me to the Pirates of the Caribbean movie has a scene of Jack Sparrow and some pirates stuck in jail and there is a dog holding the keys in his mouth for the jail cells just like in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, the movie has other scenes from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, in there movies and the pirates have the same style of clothing of the pirates on ride! I always felt the Tortuga scenes in the first and second movies felt heavily inspired by the ride as well. Especially the outside scenes with the pirates all hanging out and drinking and also the woman.

Yup, PC/SJW idiots ruined it. It wasn't creepy at all. The new version is just as "creepy" as the old one, but that's the damn point, they are pirates! People seem to think pirates are nice awesome dudes. NOPE, they rape, murder and steal to their dark hearts content. They were terrible monsters, and yet today we idolize them as if they were heroes. Thank the PotC franchise for making people think pirates were cool dudes and not blood thirsty terrorist villains of the sea. But hell, they were still badass! :D

I never have seen this ride in real life but based on the video it has that classic dark, brooding, atmospheric feel fueled by warm old lights (pre- led lights) without feeling scary. Kind of making something grotesque look amazing and nice as they did best during the end of the 90's and the early 00's. Thanks for sharing this video on your channel.

My mom nearly lost her sun hat on the ride because a breeze came up and took it right off her head; one of the other passengers was able to catch it before it got too far. At four years old, it scared me too much, that I hid behind my mom the entire time.... and yet, when we got off, I asked to go on again.

When I was around four years old,this ride actually didn't scare me and I kept wanting to ride it over and over. However, I hid behind my mom while riding the Haunted Mansion and was absolutely terrified. I just remember her tapping my shoulder to look at the "dancing ghosts" on the ballroom floor than immediately went back into hiding until we were about to get off the ride and thought the "ghost" sitting to me on our cart was real. When I brought my daughter when she was 3 years old to WDW, she wasn't afraid of both rides, but hated the It's A Small World ride. The ride broke down when we were on it and were stuck in the same spot for 20 minutes while having to listen to that song over and over. That was the most terrifying experience ever ! Lol

What I always loved about this ride was the attention to detail and always noticing something new every time you rode the ride( or now by watching videos like yours) I remember when I first took my daughter on this ride when she was only 3 years old, she looked up at the pirate that was dangling his feet over the bridge and shouted out "Ewwww Look how dirty his feet are!!!". Everyone in our boat laughed and I thought "wow, I have been on this ride numerous times since I was a kid in the 80's and never noticed that".

That's very interesting on how at the Jolly Roger, the boat was completely stopped and it let the Jolly Roger say the entire spiel. Nowadays the boat just goes down during any part of his dialogue. Just found this video and reading through the comments now, I know the answer to this, yes the way the ride used to be the boat would stop to allow the jolly roger to talk and tell you the rules of the ride before you dropped, I was about 5 or 6 when I first went on it back in 94-95 I remember it clearly a lot less people at that time too, however as the park has become more crowded they had to make some changes to how the ride operated to allow as many people to get on as they could, it makes for a much quicker ride through and you tend to miss some of the dialog, not to mention the boats never touched till towards the end of the ride when you were brought back to the front of the ride area, now it seems you tend to bump into the boats before the drop off (to allow time for the boat ahead to go through) and you have very little distance between boats during the ride. All in all it comes down to management of time and people, squeezing as many people onto a ride in as much time as is possible because of how popular it is and how many people there are visiting the park.

My favorite Disney ride! It was one of the first rides I went on during my first Disney World trip in 2001 because I loved pirates so much (Peter Pan was my favorite as a kid. Still in my top 5). Being only 9, I had no idea I was going on it during one of its last years before the movies came out and changed it. Now, I LOVE the first Pirates movie - its actually one of my favorite movies of all time - but there was something darker and more uncertain about the older design. I don't mind the friendlier design of the modern ride but I like darker and more intimidating rides (like Haunted Mansion, the now-extincted Snow White dark ride, the Mummy (Universal), etc). Even the sweatshirt I got in 2009 (the specific 73 zip-up) is no longer available and it switched out (I still don't know what the 73 stands for lol). Its a shame they just keep changing every little thing. This ride is so special me and I'm just grateful that people have old footage of it. Thanks!!

I'm 18 right now and I remember riding this ride for the first or second time circa 2004, so that would put me around five. I am not sure if my memory is corrupted or what but I remember dropping down from that waterfall entryway with the talking skull right into the Louisianan town getting plundered. I remember the surrounding buildings looking distinctly taller too, like 3-4 stories tall. The animatronics were popping their heads out the windows and the cartoonish violence took place below. It kinda looked like a Small World/POTC hybrid. The cavern sequence I have almost no recollection from that particular ride. Since then I've ridden the ride many times and the general format seems unchanged even from 1990. I used to be terrified of riding this until I was about 8 or 9, so maybe I had my eyes covered for a majority of the ride. Still, the images stick in my mind detached from any known reality.

old VHS video camera...they don't record well in low light,makes everything seem far darker than it is.But I am sure it was truly darker back then.Now everything is so lit up with more advanced lighting it takes away the raw and creepiness

This version was probably more like the one we went on at Disneyland Paris in the 1990s. But it might have been slightly different, like at rides there are. I suppose with the "PofC" movie franchise being so successful, it made sense for them to change it.

I never rode the old/original version of POTC. Often when riding these days, I wonder what was between the treasure room and the ship battle scene (now there's the curtain of mist with the projection of Davy Jones). Doesn't look like there was much there other than the voices.

The 2 drops are still there at the beginning of the ride That’s the only way you can get below ground level since the ride is below ground level is where the ride is housed that’s why at the end of the ride there’s a hill that you climb to go back to ground level.

+CrazyForLego Yes, kinda, there was a heavy set animatronic Pirate that sat on a couple of Barrels just on the bottom corner of the waterfall that your boat go's up! In the late nineties they took out the pirate on the shaking barrols and put in two pirates one pushing up a large treasure chest full of booty up the incline next to the watterfall and and another pirate pulling it up with a rope wraped around the treasure chest right where Jack Sparrow sits now, they took out the two pirates and the treasure chest and put Jack in there place! The blinking eyes have allways been in the attraction from the very beginning when it opened!

Somehow the movie stuff(Sparrow included) doesn't make sense within the more grimmer context of the original ride, and after Depp's firing from DISNEY in general. It makes less sense to basically keep his character around right now(or as part of FANTASMIC for some dumb reason)
