Although I like none of the later changes, the biggest tragedy to me was the loss of the final pirate battle. Still one of my family's favorite attractions at the park, although my favorite part of the ride isn't really the meat of the ride itself; it's the beginning part where it's floating past the restaurant and into the area of the swamp before going down into the area where the pirates are. When we lived in LA we bought season passes for our family just so we could pop in every so often solely to take that ride and eat in that restaurant.

Nice. I always rather enjoyed the smell of the place too. It always had something of a briny, "moist" smell (but not moldy) to it, if that makes sense. One of the things that sets Disney apart from virtually every other theme park is that in each of their rides they cater to as many of the senses as possible, so I'd suspect that smell in The Pirates of the Caribbean attraction is intentional.

You really think that it's the Movie's influence that made them change it? Think again! They caved in and gave to virtue signaling PC culture. It has ruined comedy and pretty much everything else. I wish that more people would stand up and demand that they change it back. Pirates are supposed to plunder and take the women and treasure. That's what pirates are! I mean if you no longer wish to show pirates then don't, but to whitewash and bastardize them into something that they are not, is just unforgivable. What are they supposed to be doing in that town? Stopping in to say hello?

I worked in the main kitchen area under New Orleans Square back in 1983 for the summer. Greatest experience was walking down those stairs into the ride before they opened! An employee/cast member Bob allowed me to walk up to the treasure scene, bed scene, and the skeletons with the wine going down their throat scenes! He would tell me not to touch anything which of course I didn't. I had 20 minutes to explore before they started the animation and then the sound. One in a million get to do that! I could have gotten fired for it but I planned my adventure a couple of weeks in advance by knowing when my managers would be at a morning meeting and which horrible ones would not be working so they couldn't see me open one of those doors leading to certain entries of the ride! Many of those exit signs you see in the beginning of the ride led up to a long corridor that has the underground kitchen that feeds all of New Orleans restaurants. shitlord fm though i absolutely love the movies, it does kind of cheapen the experience, but after they changed the redhead scene they might never change it back to the original :/

I'm going to agree with the rest of the comments and say that every change they made to this iconic ride has been for the worst.

The change in 2018 with the dark cave and changing Pirate was certainly an improvement over the previous version, as it built the story more

One of my favorite things about this ride is oddly the smell 🙂. Disney uses a different type of cleaner for their water than bleach they use bromine 💜

This is really, really interesting! I rode this for the first time about a month ago and I immediately wanted to ride it again. I am in love with the history of pirates, so it was really neat and fun!! That being said, something doesn’t have to be “accurate” in a THEME PARK for it to be fun or good. I think a lot of people whining about it being changed due to “pc culture” or whatever are weird af for trying to be gatekeepers of the OG ride, defending weird stuff like women being chased around, etc etc. The story is still pirates being pirates! Just have fun ya’ll, it’s Disney 😊

I agree. It's really freaking me out seeing how many creepy men are upset that women being bought, sold, and raped isn't a part of the ride anymore.

KWotsch like, people are saying it doesn’t represent the “truth.” I wonder if they get upset seeing Country Bear Jamboree bc bears don’t actually sing and play instruments. 🤔

plymouths99 Im happily married in a straight, healthy relationship. The people who aren’t healthy are the ones angry about women being equal in a theme park attraction.

plymouths99 I sense a distinct lack of a woman’s attention from you. As an angry lesbian I can teach you some of my wiles so you can get some, I know being an incel is tough. 🥺

When I was younger and first went on the Pirates ride, I remember seeing Davy Jones and Blackbeard's faces on the waterfall (which to my little-kid eyes looked way bigger than it really did) and not having seen the films, assumed it was the same person changing forms. Then years later when I rode it again, I noticed only Davy Jones' tentacled face appeared, and figured I must have misremembered the transformation. This video has vindicated my memory of alternating waterfall heads.

I grew up with this ride back int he 80s at Disney World Orlando. I love the song too. I now have a budgie bird that has learned the one line from the song. You can see it on my channel on the video called Minion Talks A Bit. He says other pirate phrases too.

The one at Disneyland Paris is actually really similar, though the Blackbeard/Davy Jones effect is still present and the only time you actually see Barbosa is at the end, Jack Sparrow can also only be seen twice rather than thrice
