This is a brilliant piece. I love the spot of the painter painting The Columbia. Walt stated that Disneyland will never be finished, yet the 1955 foundation is firmly in place as the story of this brilliant, historical clip narrates in moving pictures.

Feb. 2018----Amazing video and thank you for posting it. Got into writing stories, one about a guy who has the ability to jump (teleport) himself to anyplace/anyone in the world. Then he got his hands on a time machine. So the character met Walt when he was in Jr. high school, then later high school because the character was a teacher for awhile. Then he met Walt again when Walt moved to the L.A. area, later opening Disneyland. And of course, was there on opening day by "acquiring" a press pass. Did a lot of research about Disneyland, the rides it's had and problems with those rides, like the driveable cars, boats, etc. Which is why I REALLY liked video in seeing all these rides that aren't there any more, but actually being used. For example, Disneyland ran out of food because several hundred people jumped the fence to get into the place. The guest stars were suppose to show up at specific times.....they all showed up at the same time. Art Linkletter and Walt had been friends for many years and agreed to be the MC for the opening. Walt had earlier offered Art an investment opportunity in Disneyland, but Art declined, so Walt got financing else where. After the grand opening, Walt gave Art a 10 year exclusive right to selling film in Disneyland....Art made a fortune. People complained about the lack of water fountains and being forced to buy soda pop at Walts franchises. Walt told them he could put in a lot of bathroom for everyone to use or fountains, but not both. This way while they could buy soda pop when they were thirsty, but they couldn't pee in the streets.

My sister-in-law was born the year Disneyland opened. For a long time she went to Disneyland every year on her birthday, and the 50th was the most fun. She is as magical a person as the place. It's too expensive for me to go to anymore, but as much as i hate to admit it, it's really worth it. They make sure every inch has something special going on. Lots of secrets hidden around, too. The only huge corporation i don't loathe.

My background is Film/TV. The 1st color cinematography was patented in 1899 and tested in 1902. Much of this Disney footage may have been shot with 35 mm x 24 mm frame 100-sp film. The resolution of emulsion film is estimated to contain the equivalent of around 4 and 16 million pixels depending on the type of film used. Most Professional-quality "film" cameras can record higher resolution images than current top-end digital cameras Medium format film is the equivalent of approx 50 megapixels.

An African-American "Man" has been welcomed at Disneyland, even before the day the park opened. The Man, is the body cast of athlete and actor, Woody Strode. Everyone who has taken a Cruise through the Jungles of the world, has seen Woody. Woody was also Native-American, so it's fitting his physique is seen on the figures around the Rivers of America. Woody died 19 years ago, but I still see him every time I go to Disneyland. And from now on, so will you!

Great vid, and I don't mind the music, but one nitpick in your graphics opening: "Rock Around the Clock" was recorded in April 1954, not 1953. It was first released in May of '54, but was not actually a hit until a year later, when it was used for the opening credits of the film, "The Blackboard Jungle."

I remember when the original "blockout" days occurred on Mondays and Tuesdays -- and they applied to everybody. It's a tribute to modern management that a blockout day is no longer a symptom of poor attendance, but a tool to minimize the burden of crowded weekends and holidays.

Disneyland for the some, not for the minority. Notice, no Asians, no African Americans. no Hispanics, no Native Americans etc. Racism was rampant everyone who was different was not present or accepted, gays, lesbians, transgendered, others on the fringes of society living in stealth. Sentimentality is fine for a brief moment but this world was not as pleasant as it seemed for others. Celebrate diversity, celebrate freedom, celebrate choice.... celebrate evolution.

I think many of us tend to look back and think times were simpler then but as you can see in the opening lines of this video they had their share of worries and troubles. I really think the music was perfect because I think Walt Disney had a vision of a place which would allow people to step away from the everyday cares of the world and "just breathe" for a while. Sadly, I think he would be very disappointed now how the quote "happiest place on earth" is now the most expensive place on earth!

Everyone and everything looks so innocent. I remember going to Disney World in Florida when it opened (or the year after). I was 7. I’m not even sure I knew what it was. It was a fun week. We drove down from Pa. There was 7 of us (youngest of 5) in the car. I don’t know what my parents were thinking. LOL!!!!! We went on the rides and we swam a lot. In retrospect, the swimming was probably the most fun for some reason. Nice innocent time. We went back again when I was around 12. It was nice but it wasn’t the same.

Oh I don't know, maybe something that fits with the theme of the video? Maybe something from the time period? Seems like the uploader just liked the song and stuck in on.

Actually all the other theme parks are just as expensive now. One day at Universal Hollywood is $84 (Orlando is $92 for one park/one day), Sea World Orlando is $92, Busch Gardens Tampa is $89. Knott's is $62. These are all at the gate prices, no discounts taken into account. So ALL the parks are increasing prices. When Disney does, all the others follow suit.

Excuse me, that should've been "...Walt never went broke not overselling the Park." In fact, that's one of the sensible restraints that helped make Disneyland so legendary. One it's current stewards are evidently deeply unable to graciously appreciate. "So what?", they say, "We're making money. Pack 'em in..., and we'll make more...!" Pigs, who have exploited the dream of a man with vision and creative substance they'll never possess... And they know it.

True. On the other hand, society's personalities tend to be heavily influenced by the entertainment they can afford. People who indulge in things as creative and positive as Disneyland tend to spread that influence. It's kind of tragic that kids who have no money never get to experience and be influenced by the magic that is a day immersed in Disney. I wish there was a way for all inner city kids to feel this amazing place a few times in their life, and be influenced by the positivity.

The era before the Park was WAY OVERSOLD, overcrowded by avaricious execs... So overcrowded these days that it is indeed "all we can do is keep breathing", though it gets harder with the "Soylent Green" crowds the corporate rapists keep packing in... Thanks for this, it's really charming, and Walt never went broke without overselling the Park.
