I can totally imagine having the Chloe locomotive in my backyard!

I grew up about a quarter mile from Kimballs. They objected to having us kids around. I've been a life long rail fan. When they blew the whistle you couldn't the neighborhood kids home. We loved that place.

"They objected to having us kids around." I kinda don't blame them. Apart from it being a private property, it wouldn't have been safe for kids to be around moving rail equipment on an unprotected line. Heck, you can't even trust a lot of adults around trains.

That’s amazing. I know they would only let them run the trains once a year. He was awesome

I'm glad to see Chloe still surviving. She is one of a few surviving Hawaiian Plantation Locomotives Sometimes, I imagine we had a railway gala where she'd return to Hawaii just for a bit, that would be lovely! Anyway nice video!

It'd be difficult to pull that off. Hawaii's been having difficulties with both problematic tourists and anti-tourism sentiment lately.

@VestedUTuber Yea, it's a lot they're handling on their plate rn, but I hope with a bit of time all of this can be resolved. Ku Ha'a Heo E Ku Hawaii!

Orange Empire Railway Museum, Perris, California. Grew up around there, rode the trains, the trolleys. Old street car 2601 , back when I was 5, 43 now, I would go with my dad on weekends to restore it. Remember barely being heavy enough to not get blown back by the sandblaster. Was so sad to see Thomas the tank engine (fake) pushed by an actual diesel engine, forget the number, was black with a cab in the middle. Honestly, seeing that PBS monstrosity--money maker--back in 2015 was so sad. Everything was Thomas the tank engine. I get the fact that the entire organization is run on donations and Thomas is a money maker, but, my memories have been destroyed by that publicity stunt. Taints the memories of when I learned the trolleys ran on 611 volts. Rode 2601 on an open house when I was 6. So sad that the world issues have made it so hard to preserve our past that amazing places like Orange Empire, which has Walt Disney's original steam train--all of it, not just the locomotive--are having to cave and pervert the true history with Royally Creepy Thomas the Nightmare Fuel Engine. At least, Gordon was just snooty and did an honest day's work. Don't even get me started on Percy...or Diesel. :(

Oh I know that to well. Has crushed many kids including my lil brother! Thats so cool you’ve been there, I was just at a horrible train museum in Temple, TX that was sadly put together in an area with so much history. Thanks for watchin!

@@kvon432k Orange Empire is still there. Last time I was there, it was a Thomas the Tank Monster day and everything everywhere you looked was nothing but not so cheap Chinesium toys that the kids were so focused on rather than the history. What is even sadder is the idiot in charge of the 2601 restoration project had ripped out, redone, ripped out again so many time, 2601, as of 2015 when I took my family for the first time along with my parents, not their first time, LOL!, and my 3 year old--at the time--son was more interested in the toys. Forget about Walt Disney's steam train from Disneyland, forget about the other history--I only wish that the shed that 2601 was housed in was not locked. Wanted to show my wife and my son what I was working on with my dad at 5 and could barely stand from the pressure of the sandblaster. Commercialism has ruined so much. But, at least, I have my memories.

I'm a frequent visitor to the museum, I have been since I was like 4. It's local and I'm working on being a volunteer. The museum is working to get Emma Nevada running along with the UP 2564 (the museum's Mikado sitting outside only a few steps away from the Grizzly Flats shed)

I think this locomotive was used in the backyard of Ward Kimball’s house in the movie Chattanooga Choo Choo as well as the first class coach, if you’ve seen the movie, you’ll see the same locomotive & the first class coach

What you missed showing about Ward Kimball's Emma Nevada, is where he got it. The narrow gauge engine was sold off in the great depression when the line it worked was abandoned. That line in Nevada went south from a town on the Transcontinental railroad named Battle Mountain to the town of Austin NV 92 miles away. Austin had many of the mines for that county and in an age with few other ways to get the workers to it that short line RR did both passengers and freight to that connection. Now I-80 and local highway 305 get that traffic, such as it is.

@@pierremartin2107 and after the RR failed, it continued on in name, the Nevada Central Motor Lines (dba Hisky Stages) The stagecoach stopped operation in 1926, and in 1927 the bus line was inaugurated. The train system operated until 1938. The bus line ran in continuous service until 1996 under 3 different owners. I was one of them.

Is the Emma Nevada being restored to operation because as of recently I’ve seen many videos of her being stripped down of its wheels and her smoke box door off! Is it true?

Yes it is. I spoke with someone last Saturday and he informed me all the parts are back and they have begun the reassemble. Once completed they will also add more track to get it outside.

That’s great and the good thing is when the locomotive is restored the locomotive can leave the property and go to other narrow gauge railroads in the west while the locomotive can run on just a couple hundred feet of track at the museum she can also have the opportunity to stretch her legs a little more!

I could actually imagine having a locomotive like Chloe in my back yard if it was a new-build. It's a pretty small locomotive all things considered, the boiler is around the size of a large 7.5" gauge live steamer's, the cylinders aren't really that much bigger than what you would see on the same, and it's mostly empty frame, almost like a minimum-gauge locomotive spread out to fit 3ft gauge. Which honestly makes a lot of sense, sugar cane is a pretty light load and the cars used to pull it are small, lightweight cars similar in design to lumber flats, you wouldn't need a very big locomotive to haul that.
