Super cute card! Poor Emma! One day I put 3 eggs and two sticks of butter in a bowl to come to room temperature. Pushed the bowl to back of counter, went to the grocery store. Came home to a few eggs shells and butter wrappers on the floor. The yellow Lab managed to get the bowl down and ate the eggs and butter! She was fine. This dog was also a poo eater. She lived to be fifteen! Love your stories. And congrats on you engagement and up coming marriage.

We have a 128 lb. Lab that is a big bully, breaking him of that has been awful. We sent him to a boarding/training kennel. They did a wonderful job. He even learned some manners along the way best thing we ever did. Now our little Cockapoo isn't scared of him nor runs when he sees the lab come in. You will be happy you did this! To the card: I wish I had the vision of making scene cards. I have the imagination but can't make it work on paper. This card is the cutest. That dog sliding down the hill is precious! Thanks for sharing and good luck with Emma!

My first comment here, but I have been enjoying your cards, video's and story time for months. I have a Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Jasper (Sheltie). He does the same thing to our rescue dog. Thankfully he doesn't eat his own - but we can't even take him to a dog park anymore. Gag. Our solution (such as it is) was to build a dog run. Essentially a fenced off area of the yard easily accessible for ME and the dogs that we can get to even in the snow. One of us actually goes out with the dogs, poop bag in hand, and pick up immediately, Then the dogs are free to do as they please in the rest of the yard. It's not a 'dog run' but more of a fenced off toilet for the dogs, ha ha. Small round gravel so it doesn't cut their feet with flat round stepping stones for the humans (not necessary but nice). Not all that convenient but works for us and the rest of the yard is free of 'landmines' this way. We got used to it pretty quickly. Hope Emma's training goes well!

Emma is a high maintenance dog , she’s jealous of Molly because she gets positive interaction for everything . Emma is going to be a challenge because she wants to be dominant. Dogs are such a hoot , people don’t realize they can be so vindictive and jealous but they are furry little kids deep down. Love your coloring on this card

You had me howling with this story! I have three cats in addition to my two dogs. Occasionally, we dog sit my 3 grand dogs so we frequently have quite a menagerie. One thing I have to be careful is to keep the litter boxes scooped because my dogs and grand dogs think the litter boxes are a place to get ‘tasty treats’. Very disgusting!

The card is toooo cute..vibrant colors...and just all out outstanding. Try having a sit down talk with Emma and let her know that she had better get an A in the class or else its the pound! Great card - love the snow technique. I have 3 Boxers, German, and they have more drive than North American bred Boxers. My choice though, it was what I wanted. My oldest was a hard nose! I sent her to boot camp for a month. Ugh, it was difficult, as the training was intense. My Bella was so happy to get home and she heeled beautifully, didn’t tug at the leash, sat at the door and let us enter/exit - our wild child learned some manners. Costly? Yes! Her daughter was much easier to train, plus, I had learned more myself, at this point. Both competed in protection sports, AKC obedience, agility, rally, barn hunt and our next is dock diving. I think the poop eating ‘could be’ attributed to a dietary deficiency. There is info on the web. All the best to Emma!

What a beautiful scene! Best of luck with Emma! Sometimes, dogs eat other dogs' or animal poop bc they're lacking something nutritionally so they're trying to fill that void. It is gross. My pup did that too and we had to do an entire dietary change on her. I mean that's not always the case, but it's something to consider. I really hope the training helps! I have tried everything and I can't get her to stop. I am currently on poop patrol. Every time they go out, I'm watching and following them around with the pooper scooper. It's a full time job! She was also a difficult puppy. She would pee on our coach (old coach, we got rid of it). She has gotten better and is now a very good listener. She just won't stop eating poop!

Honestly I grew up with dogs too, we had so many. Everything you are describing is exactly why I now have cats. I can’t stand the poo thing, always having to walk them even in the middle of a Midwest blizzard. And the puppy phase is just a PITA. Good on you with the doggy boot camp. It will be a major difference to have someone working her 24/7.
@andrealavigne78244 жыл бұрын
We had dogs when I was growing up, & cats from when I was about 5 years old. I have always much preferred cats. Daddy & my brother were the dog people in our family. Anyway, when we started keeping our cats as indoor-only, of course we used a litter box, since they didn't go out to do their thing. And our dogs we had at the time started eating from the litter box--gross! So we finally got the idea to have a local woodworker build a low wall to put around the litter box area. Low enough that the cats could jump in and out; high enough to discourage the dogs. It worked quite well. Eventually, the wall, which was just plywood with 1x2" boards for framing, started to get somewhat wobbly. So my brother built a new one. Even now, though we don't have dogs anymore (Daddy died several years ago, & my brother moved out when he got married), we still have the wall around the litter box. Anyway, I know that won't solve your problem with Emma--wish it were that simple! I hope the folks at the board & train place can get Emma behaving. My brother & SIL have 2 dogs--litter mates--and had to have them trained, as they were rather wild & out of control. They were fortunate to be able to participate with the training, since my brother at least had a very regular schedule. I do love this card. The Milled Lavender works quite well for it. Thank you so much for sharing, and have an awesome day! :)

Kelly, I looked it up on PetMD and found this article: Dec 11, 2013 by Dr. Ken Tudor Veterinarians commonly deal with owner complaints that their dog eats its own or another animal’s feces or poop. Although there is much speculation why dogs indulge in this behavior, we still don’t know exactly why some dogs have this disgusting habit. Many Animals, and Humans, Eat Feces Coprophagia (cop-row-fage-ee-uh) is a Greek word meaning feces eating and is used to describe this behavior. We all know of feces eating insects, but many more animals are in this group. Rations on pig farms used to be formulated to account for a certain percentage of coprophagia. Rabbits and hamsters and other cecal or hindgut digesters routinely eat their feces in order to extract more nutrients from their food that may have escaped fermentation the first time. Elephants, pandas, koalas and hippo young are born with sterile intestines. They eat the feces of their mother in order to seed their intestines with the bacteria needed to aid in the digestion of local vegetation. Female dogs and cats stimulate urination and defecation of their new litters by licking the rectal, vaginal, and penile areas of their young. Dutifully, they eat the feces and drink the urine to avoid contamination of the nesting area. Gorillas and chimpanzees have been observed eating feces. The behavior is believed to enhance the extraction of nutrients from the tough seeds in their diet. Coprophagia has also been reported in some human patients with schizophrenia, depression, or pica (eating non-food items). The Medicinal Use of Feces Clostridium difficile of C. diff infections in humans are reported to top 3 million per year and account for approximately 110,000 deaths annually in the U.S. Early treatment of the condition is fecal transplantation. Patient are fed their own “banked” feces, or that of a close relative, through a feeding tube, or purified bacteria from the same fecal sources, which are put in gelatin capsules. The “good bacteria” from the feces crowds out the C. diff in the intestines and results in a quicker treatment response. Fecal enemas have proven to have the same beneficial effect. Prebiotic, or “good bacteria,” are also used in veterinary medicine to aid in the treatment of diarrhea in dogs and cats. The leading veterinary brand of prebiotic lists its first active ingredient as “ingesta.” Ingesta are intestinal contents, more commonly known as poop. What are the Reasons for Coprophagia in Dogs? The most common reason cited for dog coprophagia is nutritional deficiency. The lack of iron, or other minerals or vitamins lead the list. But there are no studies to confirm nutritional deficiencies as a cause for coprophagia. Hunger or near starvation is also suggested as a reason for coprophagia. This view is enhanced by the observation of emaciated wild dogs and canids eating feces. Again, there are no studies to substantiate that hungry dogs are more likely to eat feces than well fed dogs. Others suggest that like the animals that eat feces for specific nutritional needs, as mentioned above, healthy dogs benefit in the same way. One could argue that they are replenishing their “good gut bacteria” this way. If this were true, then all or most dogs would eat feces. In fact poop eaters are in the minority in veterinary practice. Although fresh feces might contain food residue and beneficial bacteria, old, dried out feces lacks these benefits. Coprophagia Should Be Discouraged Your dog’s coprophagia could pose a threat to human household members. Dogs can harbor bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli and infectious parasites in their gut without any signs of illness. These organisms can easily be spread to household members that allow their dogs to kiss their faces and lips. Remember a dog’s tongue is its toilet paper! The addition of MSG (monosodium glutamate) or MSG containing products (meat tenderizers) to the diet of the animal whose feces is being eaten often helps discourage coprophagia. In multi-pet households, it is probably easier to add MSG to everyone’s diet. Cats may not readily eat MSG-laced food, so if your dog eats cat poop, you may have to be more strategic with the litter box. Your veterinarian can help you with the proper dose of MSG. Might be a good idea to get Molly to the vet to be checked out to be sure there it’s some underlying reason why she’s doing it. If not, then the Vet should be able to help you determine the right amounts of MSG to add to the dog’s diets. I hope it works!

I think the board and train is probably the best option for y'all. I was thinking to myself how much time I invested each week taking my dog just to Petco for basic training, and I know y'all have zero extra time leftover in the week for that. Another option you could consider implementing after Emma gets back from her "vacay training", is an ecollar. There are some inexpensive ones on Amazon that offer ethical options...ie: 3 different settings- beeping, buzzing, and shock, with up to 10 different "strengths". I rarely use the shock on my dog unless he is in the road, a car is coming, and he refuses to listen to me. Normally, the beeping gets his attention and he runs right to me. Btw, I have a registered labrador.

Love this card! Great idea with the acrylic paint. I feel your pain on the dog training. Good luck! I'm curious if they can break the poo snacking... or if it's more nutritional vs. behavioral. I've heard that if you supplement with a vitamin, that can help. Unless she just likes eating it, lol. Let us know how it goes! Waffle cone & soft serve... I died! I once had a dog get up on the table to eat a partial stick of butter, too. That same dog got up and tried to eat my mother-in-law's salad while she was out at the grill (she was dog-sitting for us)... salad ALL over the place. Too funny. Wish me luck... Love the snow details. We have a 10 month old Golden Retriever and she is a handful as well. We have her go to doggie daycare atleast once or twice a week for a half day. She comes home so exhausted and I love it. The min she gets in the car she falls asleep and sleeps until really the next day. Does Molly not play with Emma in the backyard? I know its cold so it makes it harder. As for the poop they have products you put on Molly's food that Emma will not like eating later... I hope the trainer has tips you can share with us because I need them for ours. Jumping and barking are two of the worst habits we need to break before I go crazy... We have tried ignoring it to using a buzzer for training and nothing helps. Oh she loves paper of any kind. From clean paper towels to mail and cardboard boxes. If we see her then she blots with whatever shes chewing on because she knows better and doesn't want it taken away...

Kelly, one of my dogs used to do that. Lick poop. I happened to have plague toothwipes by Petkin, so that's what I cleaned his mouth with, the first time I caught him, and every time after that. He hated the taste of those wipes so I think that's helped with breaking him out of the habit. Because he knows whenever he does it, here come the wipes! I would buy some and use them whenever she comes back in, if you re not sure of what she was doing. The best thing you can do is try to watch her. I don't know why they do it. I've never had dogs before, I've always had cats so I'm a little new at this whole dog thing.

Hi Kelly. I don’t post a lot. I wanted to give you info on resolving the poop issue. There is a powder that they give dogs so they won’t eat their own poop. They eat it and it makes the poop taste bad. Like it doesn’t already? gahhh! Any way my vet gave it to my cat and guess what. The dog quit eating cat poop! So maybe if you sprinkle it on Molly’s food the other dog won’t munch talk to your vet. Feel free to share how my vet used it. Good luck. Lynne

Love the card ... yummy colors :-) We had a 'poo' eater, there is a product you can get at the vet that you sprinkle on their food. Suppose to make the poo not taste so good ...lol ... worked for our dog

I love the snow technique around the dog. As far as Emma, I wish you the best of luck with all of it. We had a dog that ate her own poop in her later years and were never able to break her of it. We tried all the vets suggestions and everything off Google. There are special treats you can buy, you can add pumpkin to their food (in your case, the other dogs food), etc. We tried it all and nothing worked for us. It's a form of Pica and it's not an easy thing to break once they start it, so I hope for your sake, these people can help you, because yeah.... It's horrifyingly gross.

Once again I love your stories! I so want to know how the training came out. I have a two year old who still chews on things that not only don't belong to him, they may harm him. He ate my glasses and my spare. I don't mean he chewed on them so that they were uncomfortable, I only found part of them and 1/2 a lense.

Cute scene, love the sliding puppy. I can relate to the untrainable dog story, so frustrating! It sounds like you all love Emma a lot and I hope boarding school helps her become a better family member.

Such a cool card Kelly! Love the dog and the snow flicking up off him. Good luck with the dog training, great idea sending her off for training. I was told that a lot of dogs get surrendered at 9 months of age as it’s basically their teenage years and it’s hard work. Just a thought, Is the dog poop eating a vitamin or mineral disorder?

Love that you give us useful advice on coloring. I have the Prismacolor pencils so I am glued to the screen, volume up. I do have a cheap brand of markers (you work with you got) and even though mine color markers don’t come out as beautiful as yours I think there are techniques you teach make a little bit better. So thank you for your time and sharing your expertise. P.S. Love story time too!

What I would say is that when she pee's she gets attention because you will then be telling her no so it’s basically attention through negative behaviour, what you need to do is ignore her when she is behaving negatively even if you see her peeing because she will think oh that didn’t get me any attention and then reward her when she behaves how you want her to with play etc, it does work it just takes time and patience. But I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do x
