Ah, the 911 hangup...how many of those did I get? Not to mention the barking dogs, teenagers eloping by taking dad's car at night....those were the days😁

I shadowed our local dispatch one night when I was a journalist... That was the most entertaining, the most stressful, the most strangest thing I had ever experienced. They were telling me all about calls of complaints about dogs barking, because the beach sand was too hot... Because it was raining during their vacation. One woman called because they were stuck in traffic because of an accident and she needed to use the bathroom. And yes, they said they had gotten countless calls asking about businesses closings or if they delivered, etc....And yes, they said that they too got a call about how slow the McDonald's drive thru was moving.... One woman called hysterically screaming and crying talking about she had found a dead body on the beach... They dispatched fire, police, ambulance, and coast guard... Turned out to be a toy dog bone. You best believe every bit of it went into my story about the day in the life of a Dispatch officer. All of you from dispatch, fire, law enforcement, coast guards, medics, etc... Are the MOST unsung heroes in this country! You don't get half the appreciation and recognition that you deserve!

As a former dispatcher I understand this fully!! lol 😂 I think “worst” 911 call I took like this someone wanted an officer dispatched out to their home because this raccoon was out there watching the neighbor mow the lawn and had been sitting out there for a while and just looked really suspicious. And of course we had to keep it together on the other end of the phone and keep our composure until the call ended and THEN we could bust a gut laughing! And someone like myself really had to bite my tongue being I’m extremely sarcastic but all I could think the entire time was “It’s a raccoon! Of course it’s going to look suspicious!!” 😂🤣

Are you serious?!? That is freaking hilarious! 🤣😂🤣 “It’s a raccoon, of course it’s going to look suspicious”
@RachaelLynn47115 жыл бұрын
I soooo wanted to tell the lady that but I couldn’t because you have to be professional no matter how ridiculous a call is (as you know of course! Lol) but yeah I wanted to respond and tell her that as soon as she said the raccoon looked suspicious! 😂

As a former dispatcher I can say that you only scratched the surface of a typical shift. We would take heart stopping calls and not find out if the person lived or died. Or if they died while we were on the phone with them there was no mental health support, not even a debriefing. There is a good reason dispatchers average 2yrs or less in service.

This was hilarious! It seemed like forever since the last video, and it was well worth the wait. They recently had a job opening for dispatchers in our area, and after seeing this, I’m glad I didn’t apply. I don’t think I’d have the patience to deal with Billy’s mom. 😂
