After playing LoL for 5 years, I got emotional when I asked for help in map chat bout stuff and 5 players answered me, one whispered me. And 2 mailed me items without me asking. It’s amazing after being bullied everyday in a game like LoL to see a community like this. Proud to be a member.

@@GayLPer This tbh. There's a lot of co-mingling between FF14 and GW2 players honestly, I've met a lot of players in FF14 in the past few years who were either are playing GW2 on the side or migrated over due to the perception that the game was on a backburner (I myself being one of them). I think it's partly because neither game demands a severe time sink for vertical progression, unlike WoW or Black Desert. You can cap out pretty rapidly on vertical progression in FF14 due to weekly limits, and then the rest of the time you can spend however you like, including grinding other activities in the game or simply playing other games, while GW2 has purely horizontal progression so it's much more chill.

I've never had a negative experience in GW2. But one thing that will always remind me that it has one of the best communities out there, was when I purchased a guild hall expedition. None of my friends play it, and I dont really have any in-game, so actually claiming the guild hall was virtually impossible for me to do solo. I was a little embarrased that I bought a guild hall even though I had no active players in my guild so it took me a long time to ask for help. As soon as I did, the leader of a large guild whispered me and asked what time I was avaliable, and shortly after we had arranged a time for myself and a group of his own guild members to claim it. We got it on our first try and everyone was wonderful to play with. I tipped them afterwards even though they never asked for any kind of compensation, and its stuck with me ever since that all these random people would take time out of their day to help someone that they might never even see again, just because they wanted to.

Mostly the same. I was in a larger guild that was super helpful (running raids and tutorials for new members) and two friends joined. I started a separate guild and as soon as I mentioned it my first guild had members that jumped in and donated the gold and asked if we needed help winning the raid to unlock our guild hall. no "how dare you have your own guild" or any bs like that and at this point both guilds will do events and runs together.

Guild Wars 2 is the mmo, where you can come back after year and you still feels like you are coming home. @@fwabbleThat's never, ever going to happen. But what I think is feasible from cost-effectiveness point of view is controller support for PC. I'm sure it's already possible through manual button mapping and integrating this into the game itself can't be hard. Same here, but I struggled to "re-enter" the game so I basically started from scratch with a new character. I really hope that after reaching level 80 the content will be more accessible than when I played in the past. Back in the day it did not feel welcoming to start endgame content due to too high expections of skill, which is not really a too big problem for me, but rather the high bar for having the right/perfect gear. How is that today? I was never really sure what to do or where to start. Fractals, Raids, Dungeons, WvW, PvP, it all seems relevant, but I do not feel like committing to one of those. A good mix keeps up the fun of the game for me.

@@Jembaited so I give you one hella cool advice I think. First of start path of fire and get mounts, its on a new level and much better afterwards(Hot can be explored much faster). Then go lvl 80 and elite specialization, cuz you will need it and it can change gameplay drastically. Then farm some gold and go to market and buy exotic gear for your build(please be smart and filter gear by stats that you need then by price and pick cheapest with stats similar to high priced ones, saves you tonn of gold) then you are ready to anything. Exotic, ascended\legendary diff in stats for 5% for weapon, jew, and armor so total 15% power in legendary and ascended comapared to exotic. Then just do what you want, go explore and farm cooler gear or mounts or story or gold or pvp\wvw. Have fun explore the game, after those steps you will have much less struggle!

One additional note regarding the Black Lion Chests: there is something of a mercy system in place. You get BL statuettes with every chest. Save up enough and you can eventually trade them to a BL merchant for the item from the chests you want when it comes up in the rotation. It still sucks but not as bad as most other lootbox systems.

Yeah. The keys can be farmed and they are rewarded in the story. You can even get them from random foes in the open world. So just save up the keys for when you really want something from the chests. But you must also be ready for the possibility that even if you have 30 keys you might not get that rare thing you had your eyes on. Then you have to wait a couple months for it to show up at the statuette vendor.

I've said something like this before, and its easy to say that the reward for doing an activity in a game should be intrinsic, but that's easier said than done. Its nearly impossible in an MMO due to how content works, and even in sandbox MMOs like EVE Online, people create extrinsic rewards to things like PvP via killboards. It actually often a combination of the two. Combat feels smooth and it feeling great to properly execute an opener in a fight, or dodge an ability, etc. are examples of intrinsic rewards. But people need reasons to go through the effort of organizing players, and some people really do need that carrot on a stick to motivate them. Its why some people can enjoy playing Poker with 0 stakes while others need something to be on the line.

As a long time player the learning curve is probably my biggest criticism since it goes from so forgiving that people don't learn basic mechanics like dodging and setting up a good build, to expecting those things and punishing those who don't without very clear tutorialization in-between. I was pleasantly surprised to see they finally implemented more clear instructions and tutorials in End of Dragons. There also seems to be more of a push toward using the same consistent mechanics rather than reinventing the wheel as often as the rest of the game has. My recommendation for anyone struggling is to ask for help in a starter map or put up a message in lfg. If you're trying to learn from scratch in endgame content, people who just want to farm and not teach may be pretty impatient with you. There are however tons of veteran players eager to help people and hold your hand through the learning curve.

Iv played a fair few MMOs. I swear about 90% of the ones Iv played Iv heard "GaMe Is DeAd" in chat atleast once. While in the middle of a bustling city hub to XD. IDK, my idea of a dead game is one were the servers have been shut down (shrug). GW2 happens to be on of the more active MMOs Iv played. It even 'felt' more active than WoW when I played a few years ago, as an example. I always see fair few people running around on every map in GW2. WoWs areas felt mostly empty and it was a pleasant surprise to see someone around. (May also have been the server I was on to). Also GW2s community is by far one of least toxic I have come across. I think GW2 is one of the more underestimated/underrated MMOs Iv played and in my opinion arguably the best mount system Iv come across.

I feel the same way, every once in a while I go back to WoW and I rarely see other players outside the city hubs, raids, or dungeons. When I first played WoW over 10+ years ago, people were everywhere, but now I rarely see anyone actually engaging with the various map contents. Need help with a fight, well unless you have guildies or friends online then you're on your own cuz there's no one around in your time of need. With GW2 other players can be found everywhere at any given time you'll see people running around doing their story, hunting down hero points, world bosses, hearts, vistas, mastery points, conquering jump puzzles, and mini-dungeons. Someone other than your own character is always nearby. Need a rez? No worries another player is nearby to help you out. Got a particularly tough veteran monster to take down? Oh, look there's a player over there ask in chat and help you shall receive. For a supposedly "dead" game there's a lot of people everywhere. Unlike WoW that is supposedly an "alive" game where you can't find anyone unless you go into town. I have come across a situation many time of ask for help in WoW and get roasted for needing help. Also, I think the buy the game (WoW, Elder Scrolls, etc.) and then have to pay a second time in order to play the game you just bought is highway robbery.

I think in other MMOs, and especially WoW, the focus on raids, dungeons and maybe PvP as sole endgame content leads to making the open world so irrelevant that you barely see anyone having finished the questing going there. And I don't get that design choice, as there are beutiful open world areas in these games as well. But maybe this also has to do with vertical vs. horizontal progression, because once you progress further vertically (rise level cap for new expansion) the older maps still get irrelevant and open world content designed for groups of players become unbeatable alone. So Anet has made some good design choices so that the open world and therefore the game feels very alive. I really don't know where the "dead game" originates from. All I can assume is either because of some phases of content draught or because the one time Anet had some massive lay offs.

I’d never even considered playing GW2 until twitch prime decided “psst bro you want a 50% off coupon on the standard edition plus a level 80 boost? Yeah I thought you did” and so here I am Edit: no I haven’t used the boost, it’s just sitting in my inventory until I’m confident to use it, I’m grateful for the ability to “test run” the boosted character before accepting it entirely For what little I’ve played I’m definitely enjoying it, but I know I’ve barely scratched the surface considering how many tabs upon tabs of things there are So this was a good video to see for a newcomer like me

It is good that you are saving the boost as it is really is not meant for your first character. You level fast enough as it is. You can do 1-80 in a couple of days. And there is really no reason to rush it. Unless the only thing you want to do is farm meta events or play some raids. But even then, that is not a good reason to skip to 80. The content will be there when you reach 80. Some people give the advise to play it like Skyrim. Unlock new skills, Test every weapon you can, explore the world and my favorite thing. Listen to all NPC dialog. They will talk about the world or events that are happening in the zone. And often you will hear if a dynamic event is about to start. Even long before the orange event marker shows up on the map. I really love the open world voice acting in this game :D

So far in about 4 hours of New World's starter zone, I got an aggro train of wolves dumped on me, I had another player jump in and skin an animal I just killed before I could skin it, and I've had to compete over resource nodes (iron). Those incidents and the horrid cesspool that New World global chat really make me want to be in Tyria. And the names selections also tell you a lot about the player base.

I just started 2 weeks ago. I’ve never played GW2 before. I’m a veteran of Wow playing off and on since vanilla 2005, hardcore raider back then. I’ve played ff14 off and on for about 3 years. I main a reaper and do some savage content. That being said. I play berserker in GW2. Warrior felt like, well… a warrior. Having a great sword is exactly what I wanted. I’ve enjoyed the mounts not all just being skins, but actual functionality. All the different mounts have different physics you feel when riding, and that is just so cool. I’ve done some fractals - really love how the actual “instance” as I’ll call it is a giant puzzle. Unlike the before mentioned MMO’s where the dungeons are linear, trash pull, trash pull,boss,trash pull, trash pull,boss. GW2 really added something amazing by making puzzles inside the fractal. So fun to solve. Last night I did my first hero train in HoT. It was a lot of fun running through each map with 40 people on all different kind of mounts, portalling all around for us newbs, hopping in people’s 2 seated turtle mounts to keep up, and just obliterating some of the elites in each zone. It actually reminded me of chest runs in New World, which early on was some fun content. All and all, I really enjoy the game so far. World bosses spawning in my newb zone when I was level 12, and me being able to help although I died 5-6 times, but still got loot was a massive hook for me in this game.

My fave mmorpg by far. Took me ages to realise this. Having levelled without boosting or anything and having multiple L80s as a casual-ish player. The content is there. It’s fun. No need to gem-shop anything at all. It’s different to other mmorpg formats. Where I feel the game shines most is being part of an active community focused guild. I feel you’ll learn a lot about the game and have more fun than most other mmorpgs can offer. I feel that you can’t out level or out gear something and you always get rewards of some sort for whatever you do. This is huge. Especially when composited with so much of what you do on one character being available or unlocked on other characters too.

After Blizzard and WoW have maliciously put me through the wringer many times trying to squeeze a few more pennies out of me, I will never EVER complain about GW2's gem store. The prices are fair and Anet isn't holding my account hostage with a sub fee _just to play the game._ After finally burning the bridge with WoW recently I tallied up how much they've gotten from me over the years from expansions and sub fees to character transfers, race changes, etc and they have milked me for over $3,500 I am NEVER going to get back and that doesn't even include the cash shop like mounts and pets because any I had ever obtained were gifts. GW2 may have its own version of the cash shop but it will never bleed you like WoW did especially if you have self control to not frivolously spend. You might buy a couple mount skins, some dye, a glider or two, etc but that is all perfectly reasonable.

GW2 is highly underrated. I admit quitting 2 years in, only to come back on the 6th year of the game though. Back then, there was just something that was missing, and a big portion of the player population shared the same sentiment. I was surprised that it felt completely different when I came back. Now, 9 years in, a lot of changes have happened, and it's now more enjoyable than ever. I do, however, feel like the game can be confused as to what it really wants to be. It can be all over the place at times, a bit chaotic (I do like the underlying chaos though). I guess they want to appeal to a big audience, and they want the game to market itself (We all know how terrible they marketed this game). But, best believe that this is such a valuable game with limitless possibilities. And what makes it better is the fact that it's sooooo easy to get into. I highly recommend GW2 to everyone. It really is a gem. Nevermind the shitty advertising. Just play it already!

base gw2 was missing a lot of stuff, yeah. it was the best experience getting to max level i ever had in any mmo, but endgame didnt have much to do. there was little reason to go to most maps after clearing them. few achievements to grind. farming gold through orr meta trains, dungeons or fractals was boring af. fractals were so basic back then... and even if you grinded gold, there was not much you could buy with it. like... bag/bank slots and legendaries. it felt like there was no purpose playing the game. this started to change with the addition of dry tops and got better and better after HoT launched. now the stuff that we can do is >>>> the time we have. the best thing is, that old content doesnt become useless. in most mmos you farm for better and better gear, so all old dungeons/raids become a joke. if only anet learned proper advertising. this game could be huge.

Virtually 90% of the open content in WoW is completely ignored because it's so old and dry in execution. Countless quests of just killing 15 bandits etc. with static NPCs and completely empty zones come to mind. FF14 has some of the same issues but just juiced on pain killers because of modern polish.

It's an MMO but it's not an MMORPG. It's a MMOARPG. All classes are hybrids being able to damage, tank and heal. There are a limited amount of buttons at once on the screen and you have to play them much faster. Your skills also completely vary depending on your build and weapon so you get completely different play styles instead of a few core spells changing. Since there are no healers that need to be kept busy, the game relies on evasion of damage such as the standard running out of red circle but also evading attacks by dodging or jumping, watching the movement of enemies and using the terrain to climb on it or hide behind it.

I would say the gem investment you mention is super inflated for way more convenience than you need. You can easily cut several thousand out of that. 1 You get a shared inventory slot with each expansion. 2 You can get up to 160 bag slots without ever buying bag expanders, let alone 4 of them. 3 you definitely don't need a vip pass since you can TP to any main city at any time, especially now with Arborstone and Wizard's Tower TP scrolls (and main cities work just fine. Rata Sum is super convenient as well). Hell I only have two because they were gifted and I very rarely use them. 4 Salvage o matics are convenient, but far from even strongly recommended imo. I played for like 8 years before I ever got one and never felt a need. I'd agree on really only the material storage and a couple bank tabs, maybe not even 4. The gathering tools are really only good for the glyphs imo. And then they add the inconvenience of having to swap them from characters. They've never felt necessary since tools are cheap and everywhere. Same with salvage kits. I'd say almost every player would be happy spending about 2k-3k of that 12k list. Great video though!

I have to say to amount of "idiot" things you can do and somehow they still work is one of the main reasons I play GW2, regarding the lack of "holy trinity" I think the fact the game doesn't have set roles is what makes it so great. Not to mention you don't have skill points like systems that locks you to one path, no, one minute you're full dps and the other you are a immortal beast that still does quite considerable damage and right next you're playing support, all with the same character! As someone who loves to experiment and see what I can get away with, even when others say "that's stupid", this feature alone is just perfect.

I think an easy win would be them finding a way to add to your home instance characters relevant to where you are in the story and have unique dialogue to comment on where you are in the story. It would make new players so much more vested in going all of the content, I don't think there's really enough carrots to encourage people to play multiple playthroughs as different characters, and that would allow them to bypass the other route which would be far cooler, but unrealistic, which is revisiting the alignment feature that they abandoned, re-recording lots of lines to make the dialogue difference feel more like Star Wars Old Republic. They really do need to figure out a better way to reduce the barrier into crafting, that system isn't easy to adopt, specifically to reduce the barrier to endgame crafting I started playing WoW again after years of not playing any online games, got bored and ended my subscription (news stuff happened soon after). Tried Star Wars the Old Republic, The questing experience felt so good, but it scratched more of a single player game itch, came back to guild wars 2 after not playing for 7 years, and I just genuinely love the combat, build crafting, and the general openness to hop into different game modes. I went through all of the expansions in sequential order (stopped at South Sun), unlocking each mount has felt amazing and completely changed how enjoyable it is to level alts, but the outdated systems really stick out. Old broken dialogue lines that still exist in core, or getting stuck in an animation during the last leg of a quest that you need to start over. I hate achievements as quests, that interface does not make it a smooth experience. And the moment anything requires me to look up a wiki that I truly know shouldn't need one, that there should be a better cleaner in-game solution because every time you push someone out of your product they're more likely to not go back, and that's anything to do with crafting towards a big goal item. I really don't know how they could make end game crafting easier, but I do know it's not enjoyable to try to figure out. Whoever's idea it was for downstates is a genius, all that does is encourage the player base to be more thoughtful in helping out other players, and it's just reinforced with map wide meta events, and their rewards. I really believe this is a core part of reinforcing the genuine good nature of the players that I usually experience. They should also half gem store prices, I do view it as purchasing artwork, but the price scaling is not correct. Each expansion should have a decent amount of gems spread across achievements, just enough to buy a couple of cosmetic items at least. Long time that would probably drive more purchases and greater financial gain than what they have today, Gem Store is definitely a bit of a milk fest if you want the convenience benefits. PS: I deleted all the boosts I got, painstakingly writing the stupid item names in that stupid confirm delete box because I already had six characters. But it's the only way I can properly learn the classes and have fun in that process, I know for me jumping towards the end and needing to sift through all those skills and abilities at once would have made me stop playing the game pretty fast.

(still working on parts for Aurora...) like jumping around and seeing how far you can go to get a chest of loot at the top of an area (or a clock tower during October)? jumping puzzles, my friends!

I started playing it mostly because of the graphics and story and quickly fell in love with the game. WoW cost $15 x12 for a year = $180. One of my favorite things about GW2 is the gem shop. If I spend $15/month in the gem shop I get BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL mount skins or fancy QOL items. For example, you can buy this thing that will summon your friend to you, no matter where you are. I love spending money in the gem shop as a way to support the game. With WoW for $15 I get nothing
@BisonAffinity
@BisonAffinity 2 жыл бұрын
WoW costs $15 dollars. But you get raid updates throughout the expansion faster, you get a whole VARIETY of mounts you can earn in game that have INFINITELY more prestige given their selective applications on how to get them instead of the intertwined real money/gold method of gw2, and pretty much all the armour is earned through game play, whether its dull of flashy. I can earn 10 mount skins in a month in WoW with a whole variety of applications on how to earn them, while in gw2 I can pay the same price for ONE SKIN with no prestige because they're no distinction between me and the kid with his parents credit card playing IMVU
@MightyTeapot
@MightyTeapot 2 жыл бұрын
Nah that's not the point, the problem with cash shop cosmetics is that they mean absolutely nothing in the context of the game. They are totally disconnected from the game, if you get a rare skin or prestige skin in wow there is no buying it, only playing will get you there - that is not the case in GW2 for most items and all but one mount skin. This is the core criticism of the reward structure of GW2. Not liking a sub fee is 100% fair, but I think you have to call out the downsides of the system even if they don't directly affect you. For example the downsides in GW2 don't affect me either, I really don't care about rewards whatsoever but that doesn't mean I can't be objective about the systemic design and empathize with the large amount of players who do care for rewards.

@@BisonAffinity can't you buy wow tokens? Your whole argument falls flat when you can use money to get in game currency. And let's not pretend that even if the game itself doesn't allow you to buy in game currency you can't just go to a "shady" website or discord and just pay someone to farm in-game gold for you. There's always a kid with a credit card that is going to get things that you had to grind for, players just like the illusion that that's not the case and like it when this rich kids aren't the big portion of the players.

@@manuelsilva6244 It would be an argument that falls flat on its face.... if the mounts weren''t still rare in WoW. Despite this option existing very few people actually do it given how expensive it is and its clear by how few end raid boss mount, gladiator mounts, archaeology mounts you actually see in-game. Plus this is entirely dependent on arena nets implementation of the mount skin collection isn't it? If there was an achievement mode living world, not only would I actually play living world again but I would be solely contingent on earning the mount.

Strikes being introduced from the start of the xpac is not evidence of the dedication on anet in that pve direction, it is evidence of anet's inability to consistently produce quality group-pve activities. Dungeons have been dead for years, fractals only got the sunqua peak (from which only the last boss on CM is enjoyable) as a teaser for asian-themed expansion, raids are considered as too heavy an investment for the production team, so they went on with itty bitty strikes (a few and hard modes of them) as an excuse so as to not be stuck with the same old no-endgame "slander". Honestly I enjoy the game and will get the xpac to be able to play with my friends, but if it wasn't for the peer pressure, I wouldn't hurry to buy it untill they released some decent instanced content. Btw MTeapot do you know if this is just the latest or the last expansion of GW2?

I don't have most of the QOL items that you list purchased from the gem store and honestly, I think my QOL is fine. Sure, things could be a bit more convenient but I never find anything overly inconvenient, iykwim. So just to say, that you can get away with spending a lot less that $120 on QOL items and still have a great time and not really miss them. I wouldn't want the idea that if you don't spend $120 then the game will be annoyingly inconvenient to play, to put ppl off playing the game, cause I don't believe that is the case. Also, you can often get those QOL items on sale if you are patient, so you can amass them over time for less than $120

The only Quality of Life items I am willing to pay for and have paid for are the account wide stuff. Bank expansions, shared inventory slots(where you store your salvage o matics) maybe some build storage, ect. That would be my recommendation to anyone whos serious about the game. Its almost $10 for a shared inventory slot, but sticking a salvage o matic in it is sooo worth it.

Imagine having friends in the game to do the endgame stuff. =/ As an introvert it's really hard to open up and re-learn to trust people after so many let downs. Not to mention sometimes even reaching the end game just feels like a steep hill that I just look up and wave at the people there, because I get pummeled by simple everyday mobs in the overworld. Getting better gear is an option, but after spending just about everything I had to get the Griffin in PoF I mentally just gave up trying to keep up. With no one to chat with or to read idle-chatter it's a very lonesome game.

I tried to get into GW2 comming from other MMOs like WoW, FFXIV or SWTOR and I just couldn't- I like to play supports, classes that thrive in team based content, and there was nowhere for me to go. I tried fractals- It took forever for me to get a group and once inside it felt like my abilities did absolutely nothing. I played a Chronomancer to buff up allies and slow and stun enemies. CC with buffs and some heals but no, nothing. Everybody else was so overleved and overgeard anything I did felt like it had no impact. I tried other builds but it was essentially a "just do damage" thing. I hate PVP in all its forms so I'd stick to PVE. It also didn't help the way AoEs are portrayed. In open world content the telegraphs become a clusterfuck and you never know what hurts you or what actually hits you. Some people like chaotic fights, but after my experience in FFXIV where AoEs are so clearly defined, I just couldn't deal with GW2's system. I did like the variety of builds though. And loved the concepts for the Engineer and Mesmer classes.

it's also honestly a great game to take a break from. I very often stop playing for 6 months at a time, come back and my gear and what I've worked towards so far is all still 100% valid, so it never feels like I'm missing out on anything. On top of that, like teapot said, endgame is whatever you make it to be, sometimes I do fractals, sometimes for months on end I just do open world events. Although I will say that the raids seem a bit "gatekeep-y" by the community and I wish it was a bit easier to get into without committing to a raiding guild. They have been out for so long that seems you either have to subject to bad groups or have people ask for hundreds of proof of kill of a certain boss

This is not entirely true. Yeah you will need to learn the game and the class you are playing but simply playing alongside players, doing world boss trains and especially playing through your personal story, there shouldn't be any reason you can't also be as good as the 9yr old veteran player. Some 'vetrans' are still bad at the game 9yrs later. GW2 is a skill based game which anyone can get good at.

Not to forget the seasonal events like Halloween, Xmas, Adventure Box etc. Plus all those special events that randomly come up like the player designed weapons quest, the shinny weapons events - in a way if you are casual you're really gonna have to manage your time effectively. Like crafting (yep you need to go online and use GW2efficientcy.) Cost effective levelling for tailoring & weapon smith look it up online, getting the most from the forge (AKA toilet) Also finding out where to get recipes - also what events are up using the ingame typed in at prompt /wiki ET. Yep GW2 has a MASSIVE learning curve when you look at it from a beginners stand point, actually even after playing for a long time you'll still find those (I never knew that moments.) And yep all those special items that will transport you to a specific place or give once daily items and home instances and what to put in them - yep lots and lots and lots.
