You can also take raw inputs for chat commands. You can find the variable name the exact same way he did just using it as a chat command instead.

Not sure if you solved this, but for posterity I had the same issue for many months. In the Text (GDI+) source properties tick the "Use Custom Text Extents" box. And you can set basically a bounding box that the text will center itself in relative to where you place it on the scene's canvas. Hope this helped you, or someone :). Text (GDI+) sources can be very fiddly at the best of times. I learned that one from another creator named Phlare :).
