As a former mainlander who now lives in Hawaii…This sounds all too typical the response the race official had to a group of “outsiders” coming in to win a “local” event. There is a strong undercurrent of dislike for outsiders. During 2 years of Covid Restrictions, I was shocked how many vocal citizens wanted to keep the travel restrictions in place because they do not like outsiders. But good for you guys the sportsmanship you all showed!

Hi Michael! It was a pleasure to race "with" you, also mad respect for going out of your comfort zone with OW competition! We (Viking Chili Peppers) chatted with y'all briefly on the dock afterwards and I was hoping to get a photo with you at the banquet, but I understand why you didn't come. Congrats on y'alls win regardless!

Never underestimate how bonkers someone who is super self important can get when they feel personally slighted....

Yo Michael, you seem like you’re in such a good spot in life. Thanks for showing us that swimming is more than just a sport, but a way to connect with God and others. So cool what you did for the community and way to go on being the bigger person. 🤘

That seems super messed up . Yeah a call/radio to the race director I feel like should of handled this all within like 5 mins. None the less awesome job on the race and congrats!
