This is a tough one. I’ve been to 3 out of the main 4, O’ahu being the exception for now. I just got back from Maui, so it’s fresh in my mind, and Kauai and The Big Island are deeply ingrained in my memory and my heart. In my opinion, Maui has the best beaches, and the road to Hana is so worth waking up at 6 AM to get on the road. Great snorkeling, too. Kauai has the best hiking, Waimea Canyon being the top dog. It’s also more laid back than the others IMHO. I found it slightly more beautiful than the others, but only just. Big Island, Kona Specifically, has the best coffee on the planet. It’s almost worth traveling to Kona for the coffee alone. Again, just my humble opinion. It’s also got the most diverse geography, and there’s more to see than any other island. Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter which one you go to; they’re all absolutely gorgeous, and whichever one you go with, you won’t regret it.

Maui, Oahu & Kauai all special & beautiful & have their unique identity, The Big Island though 💙 🏝 😍 sheeeesh

Hubs and I did Oahu first in 2019 and it was honestly perfect for us. I love to shop, take lots of pictures of everything, walk around, and of course - hit the water. Hubs likes hiking, relaxing, and eating yummy food. We did a lot in only a week (all the research I did was very beneficial) but also felt we got equal amount of time for refreshing while there. Would love to go back but would also love to see the other islands as well!

Hi. Can you share your itinerary at Oahu for a week?
@MM-yb2fy2 жыл бұрын
What was your itinerary?
@jessicaseay24822 жыл бұрын
@@amzahfansuri5006 sorry for the delayed response! Day 1 - checked in to the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Waikiki Beach, ate dinner, and headed to bed to get an early start the next day. Day 2 - Drove to Waimanalo Beach, then to Halona Blowhole, & Halona Beach Cove (also called Cockroach Cove), bought a few groceries to make eating more affordable during the week, then back to the hotel for dinner & bed. Day 3 - Headed to Kualoa Ranch for the Movie Sites tour, UTV tour, & had their ranch style buffet lunch on site. Next drove to the North Shore & visited the Dole Plantation and went to Waikiki Beach for the Hilton Hawaiian fireworks every Friday night. Day 4 - Got up early to hike Diamond Head crater (don't miss the view there!), went to shop at International Marketplace for souvenirs, ate a sandwich in the car on the way to Waimea Bay & swam in the ocean and jumped off the huge rock there. Day 5 - Visited Pearl Harbor & took the ferry to the USS Arizona Memorial, then drove to Aloha Stadium for the famous Swap Meet flea market, grabbed lunch at the Ala Moana shopping center food court, snapped some pictures at the King Kamehameha statue at Iolani Hale Palace (the HQ for the task force in the Hawaii Five-0 reboot TV show), then rested the rest of the evening. Day 6 - Drove to Hanauma Bay (get there early) to snorkel & see the fish, ate lunch in the car, headed to Lanikai Beach (our favorite) for swimming/snorkeling and my husband got some great drone footage of the Mokulua Islands, got pizza for dinner and had a couple's massage, headed back to our hotel. Day 7 - Went back to International Marketplace for coffee at Kona Coffee Purveyors & some more souvenirs, walked to the Duke Kahanamoku statue on the beach for pictures, went back to our room for lunch and packed, took taxi to dinner at Duke's in the Outrigger Hotel & walked around shops around that area (really cool atmosphere at night), had acai dessert at Banăn and went back to the hotel. Tips: I would recommend not missing the Diamond Head crater hike, visiting the North Shore & Waimea Bay/Jump Rock, & Lanikai Beach. Those were our favorite things I believe and Lanikai wasn't as crowded as some other beaches. Just beware there is no public parking since it's in a neighborhood area so you may have to find someone who allows parking in their driveway and will charge you dearly for it - that's what we had to do. The North Shore has a more local vibe to it than the touristy places in Waikiki Beach - definitely a must do. Things we did not do that we wanted to: Makupu'u Lighthouse trail, Hoomaluhia Botanical Gardens, Lanikai Pillbox Hike, & Kaneohe Sandbar. Worth looking into! If we had stayed 2 weeks we could have done it all. We also chose to rent a Jeep to help us see more of the island and it was cost effective compared to taking taxis everywhere & helped us bring whatever gear with us we wanted. Also, the ABC stores everywhere have so much that you may have forgotten at home. Make sure you check them out while you're there. Hope this helps! Sorry for the book haha.

I think each island is beautiful and truly has aspects that caters to what you want to do. My personal opinion for Maui (aunt had her wedding there) is that it’s beautiful but the food isn’t as good and doesn’t have as much shopping as Oahu. For people who are foodies, looking for night life, shopping, more crowds or on a budget, Oahu is definitely the place to go but people who have the money, are more for scenery/excursions and relaxation or less crowds, Maui is the place to go. I’m someone who doesn’t mind the crowds so that’s why Oahu is my personal favorite since there’s a little bit of everything you want in a vacation! But I also have friends and coworkers who absolutely love Maui and only go to Maui specifically for their honeymoons and anniversaries because of how beautiful and relaxing it is. It’s all personal preferences honestly! I haven’t been to the big island or Kauai but in the future I plan to check it out. I will say this, I gained weight on my trip because I ate so much good food in Oahu. I did multiple excursions a day and somehow manage to gain more than lose so you know the food is definitely worth trying on the island. (Unpopular opinion from my family is that they probably wouldn’t visit Maui a second time because the money spent can be spent elsewhere like Asia where there’s so much to see and eat which is the top things for them in a vacation but because of my trip to Oahu last year, they have decided to give Oahu a chance this year.)

These videos you have painstakingly created were a tremendous help in determining our recent Hawaiian vacation. Thank you so very much! I live in Alaska, so I’m spoiled with billion dollar views around every corner. Even the landfill/dump in Anchorage is gorgeous. 😂 But I must say, Hawaii has come the closest to Alaska in terms of breathtaking scenery. Every single wonderful thing you have ever heard about Hawaii …is 100% true. And the wondrous Hawaiian coffee…my word…there are no adequate words. I’m getting all choked up just thinking about Kona coffee. Look away… look away, I say! 😂 We stayed in Maui this past September & my jaw was on the floor for the duration of the trip. The condo was stylish-no canned artwork on the wall. It was so tasteful & well thought out. The smile never left my face. Love at first sight. I even felt like I could lick the bathroom floor at the airport in Maui with how clean they kept the facilities. I could see first hand how Hawaiians take great pride in their state as well as their attention to detail. Good. On. You!! 👏🏼 👏🏼 Alaskans & Hawaiians already have a common bond, so I plan to do my part to preserve that bond by spending as much time as humanly possible in the 49th & 50th states for the rest of my days. They are very, very special places-& imho, the finest on Earth. ♥️ 🍍 ❄️

We are in the process of planning our first trip to Hawaii this August, my partner and two teenagers. So excited for all the exploring and hiking and gorgeous scenery. I think this video has helped us determine Maui as the island we will visit for 6-7days, then maybe end up in Oahu for the last 3 days. Would you be comfortable sharing where you stayed? The accommodation is proving to be a tricky decision. Condo or hotel? We would love the extra space in a condo but the hotel will likely offer closer to beachfront and also pool… so many decisions!

Great video! My ex-husband and I were talking about how we were so sure we were gonna live such Great lives after our divorce, but the reality of our incomes and having to purchase 2 of everything, we're both like single parents because we both carry the expense equally. Then, I said ugh their birthdays! I hate spending all that money knowing they're gonna have a 2nd party at his house! I spend all that money feeding everyone just to fill up my house with toys they're gonna break in a week 🙃. My ex said he was feeling the same way and idk how we ended up deciding that the hardest part is having to explain to the 7yo why he can't have us both for 1 party. Somehow we start talking about money better spent on family trips. Together we have 2 kids, they are 3 years apart but have the exact same birth date. I think we're gonna do it, my 7yo wants to go to Hawaii and now thanks to this video, I do too. Idk why I over shared 😅 In your video I can see us all splitting up and enjoying ourselves by ourselves and together at times just intertwining our lives. Thanks for such a great video

I spend my life in Hawaii for 2 weeks every 3 months coming from San Francisco, so I've been to all the Hawaiian Islands many times over and over again. Maui used to be my favorite many years ago but the island is rapidly turned "California" day by day. I'm thinking of selling my house in Paia and buying a house in O'ahu because I finally starting to get tired of Maui, Kauai and The Big Island. But I never get bored in O'ahu, Chee Hoo! I will still visit the little beach and Paia secret beach "middle" from time to time, but Honolulu is where I can eat the best poke, get the best food, and the best surf (from Waikiki, Diamond Head, Queens, Sunset, Pipeline, Velzyland) never ending fun!

I'm about to visit Hawaii for the 4th time woth friends, (twice to the big Island and twice to Maui). I have to say thay imo the big island is best for coffee (our first visit was prompted by a good friend who was working on one of those farms) and for adventure if you have friends or family who can show you around. It's much more "residential" and some of the night life areas can get rough if you don't have an in. Maui is gorgeous, and our favorite so far, but is crowded and SO EXPENSIVE. My favorite is Kau'ai. We had a timeshare there for years and years! Maui is my second favorite, followed by the big Island and Oahu is definitely my least favorite, but you have to see Pearl Harbor at least once in your life.

Have been to Oahu 3 times and absolutely love it.. I also visited Kauai and Maui..loved the scenery on Kauai and didn’t really get to see much of Maui as we went from Oahu to Maui and couldn’t do much due to the hurricane they had had... but loved what I did see. But Oahu is my favourites

I've never been to Hawaii before but planning to go soon with my family, it would be a dream come true to visit. According to many, Maui just seems to be the best island overall, and honestly I wouldn't disagree doing my research and gathering all pros and cons. With that being said, honestly at a personal level I just feel that Oahu is the island I would love to be our first. Its kind of a "calling", lol. I'm truly a city person and Oahu having that perfect mixture of urban and rural areas seems like so cool to me. We love going to restaurants and shopping malls, also the historic part of pearl harbor would be nice. The various trails and many beaches around Oahu just seems like my place to go honestly. Overall I agree that Maui is better than Oahu. But in my case and our lifestyle and preferences, I just see Oahu as the perfect island for us to visit for our first time. Maui would be without any doubt our main visit once we get to go to Hawaii for our second trip. Oahu just seems to have that perfect tone of paradise without compromising the great civilization factor. You can still experience the Hawaiian culture and people. Only downside is the crowds and the huge traffic, but in my opinion is worth the hassle knowing also that we will have the time to relax and enjoy the visit even if it means wasting some idle time on the roads. Besides I love to drive and would love to rent a nice Jeep and just visit many places the island has to offer. If there's traffic so be it. By the way I've done some research and still in Oahu you can find some beautiful beaches and trails that are mostly visited by locals which means that they are less crowded and those are the places that we plan to visit as well. I would love to visit Maui later on a second trip, but for now at least in our case, I think Oahu is our island to pop our Hawaiian cherry...lol.

Most people go to Oahu for their first trip for all the reasons you listed. We lived on Oahu for 2-years and we loved it. As you say, it has everything from the town to the country. Waikiki feels like Vegas which makes it fun for a couple days (for our personalities) but then we need to escape to the country or do activities outside of Honolulu. Enjoy Oahu for your first trip, you won't regret it! Check out our itineraries for some ideas on what to do and our hiking article (Oahu trails are at the bottom: thehawaiivacationguide.com/best-hawaiian-island-for-hiking/ Mahalo, Jordan

Maui was such a dull commercialized experience. You either have hotels and golf courses stacked on top of each other or you go on a 4 hour road trip to the rainforest and mountains. Nothing in-between

My daughter and I have visited all the islands eight times over the course of 20 years. We decided to reside in Maui since 2017. We have two places, upcountry North East of Maui ( with 50 animals) and Kihei, South of Maui ( Kamaole Beach park III) for beaches and kayaking. We got the best of both worlds. The climate in Hawaii is superb! We were from Carmel by the sea in Ca. Beautiful place as well, however it’s very cold.

We just got back from Carmel by the Sea, which we absolutely loved. How funny that I was imagining our next trip and yours was the first comment I saw. We met a nice woman on the beach in Carmel-by-the-Sea and she told us we have to go to Hawaii. She loves the big island.

Beware: Hawaii is a scammers paradise. People go to the islands thinking they're going to live on the beach and just eat fruit, have no plan and no resources, they're forced to work without skills and just lie about it and then they ask for money up front and disappear. Often when the surf is up the guys don't show up. When the fissure on the big island is flowing The air stinks and it's hard to breathe. Healthcare is non-existent. Do not get sick or hurt while there. The only real place to get real healthcare is on Oahu. I sold my property on the big island in Kona in February and I'm glad to be rid of it. Visiting is just so much easier and cheaper now.

@@LambertBrady Thank you for telling me all this important information, about the Island of Hawai’i I am currently going to college right now to get a education, because I heard a lot about this. Also, I have plans I am saving up. Yes, I am moving to Oahu after I get the college education and maybe go to medical school to become a doctor, they don’t really have doctors on the island. I heard they pay a lot with doctors on the island.

@@LambertBrady brady I've been on big island, Hilo 20years, there scammers all over, everywhere not just Hawaii, I've been ripped off many many times, good times too, i got into kupuna softball, golf, too old now, Your right about most, i just cant think of another place i would want to live. i don't like Kona either, rains to much here, then i think of the traffic on the mainland, Aloha

We like to think seniors can go anywhere! If you don’t like cities, avoid Honolulu. But the big city and population center of Oahu has the most services for accessibility. thehawaiivacationguide.com/hawaii-handicap-accessible/
