100%! The fact that everyone is okay with it completely freaks me out. It's not a normal term to use, especially referring to children. Just in general it's derogatory in use almost always and who wouldn't feel uncomfortable when people talk about their pubic hair like that?

First caller is a bit odd to me tbh. Your friends are a reflection of you and they are the mirror for you to see the inside of your relationship. So defending him to the ends of the world is sort of, weird, instead of being transparent about him to your friends -- similar to what miles said at 25:45.
@SarahTheSassy71 Жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing! Like either communicate with your friends or don't value their UNINFORMED opinion so highly... I just kept thinking "this is not a real problem babes"
@saintnikz Жыл бұрын
With the firecrotch thing, I think the issue is that it's sexualizing a child, and in this case, an adult doing that, though completely accidentally. I'm a redhead, and I got that a lot when I was a minor, and it was gross. Why is it okay to talk about my pubic hair? However, this was obviously a silly oversight that was clearly not targeted at all. Just say to the mom, "Oops, I wasn't thinking and didn't mean to aim it toward the neice at all. It won't happen again." That's it. No, the caller didn't do anything wrong, but someone was upset by it, and it's okay to acknowledge that.

It's been said many times, but for the sake of engagement, the first caller: 1) couldn't/wouldn't flat out say "yes, I am upset that even though I was in an accident, my bf basically dismissed the situation and didn’t check up on me the way I would have wanted him to". 2) she was fiercely deffending his actions. 3) odd thing to say that the friends are upset with him, caller fiercely deffending him, then being upset with friends because they don’t know him the way she does but doesn't share who he is with them. 4) why are you on a break if the issue is with the friends and him. Not you and him. 5) you don't want to share personal details about him but you're willing to paint him as the bad guy by not telling your friends about the good he does... that's odd. Final thought. If there is a need for a break to me, in my opinion, that means that what ever is being communicated is not getting through. If it's not getting through needs are noy being met. If needs are not being met, move on. It's not easy, but it is duable. 2 years is enough time for comfort. In a relationship sometimes that can also mean stagnant, that you're in that relationship because of the familiarity. That also means you get used to things, like a bf not checking in on you in a time of need, because of how often they do it. If it's ALL of your friends who have an issue, you might want to pay a little more attention to them.

Caller 1: Did she really go on a break with her boyfriend because her friends misunderstood the situation? She had a great reason for his behavior (bad reception so missed texts, babysitting his cousin's special needs child) and a great example of him coming through (came to help her with car trouble in the middle of the night) which she wasn't sharing but still went on a break with her boyfriend...? i don't get it

I came to the comments to say this exactly! The math isn't mathing, the story isn't unfolding... Not communicating the details with her friends pretty much created this entire dilemma. I think the not telling his business is more about the disabled cousin and not the car troubles. People can be weird about disability and disclosures. I don’t think there should be any shame, so I think talking about it is good, but I also understand that perspective, especially with confidentiality.

For the last caller, I wonder if the use of firecrotch really hurt the sister’s feelings because maybe she had been bullied with that term (if she’s a redhead, or if her husband is maybe he was bullied), so hearing it again really triggered a bad memory. I think it’s probably more about her than about the caller. I think it’s worth it to apologize and just explain that you weren’t trying to bully the daughter or anything, and you didn’t realize the impact and weight behind your words. This is all speculation, but it could be behind the very intense reaction.
@barmhjertige1 Жыл бұрын
For the first caller… The bf couldn’t have texted sooner than late at night? Did he not have his phone with him? I feel like he could’ve spent 20 seconds to send a quick text and let the caller know that he was busy? And the whole «not wanting the friends to know» is it because they have other info? Idk I might just be a little too suspicious over things but I hope he treats the caller right. And maybe she could tell her friend group that he does show up for her and the reason he couldn’t was he had something more pressing, if she doesn’t want his «personal life» out there.

Preface: I love you guys and this show. However, the firecrotch thing bothers me so much. It's something people started calling me at 5 years old. I'm 30, and random strangers will still make similar "jokes." There are statistics on the level of bullying redheads receive, and redheaded women have to deal with a lot of fetishization/sexualization from a really young age. It can really mess with someone's self-image and works only to other them based on a random genetic variation. There is a subtext of "something about you is different and incorrect, and that's why we laugh at you." To this day, I don't understand why it's appropriate for people to constantly talk about the color of my pubes. It would be so weird if you did that to anyone else...

First story. Girl if ur BF has an issue with ur friends knowing certain details of his life then he shouldn’t be upset that they don’t like him when he’s intentionally not wanting to tell him everything. Like bffr He refuses to tell them the whole story. Then gets upset with them for not knowing the whole story. Ur friends are not in the wrong bc no one is communicating with them. Either you or ur bf need to tell them the whole story or tell them that they don’t know the whole story.

The first caller is in a dangerous relationship from what I'm hearing in her very odd way of speaking about this situation. She holds onto examples of his past good behavior to help herself justify staying with him. But obviously the friends can tell there's something very off, and using this recent mishap to try to get their friend out of this relationship. He is the one telling her not to share his "personal life", even neutral or positive details ("it's kind of disrespectful if you think about it") and controlling the narrative around his actions and limiting contact with her (going on a break, i don't believe it was mutual) since her friends object to his behavior (it's either me or them, choose).. he is trying to controlling your perception of him and of your own friends and it's working. He is going to continue to isolate you from them. Abusive or controlling people do not want any outside influence on their partner. They need to have the upper hand, be mysterious.

It’s perfectly normal to not want to tell people about someone else’s child developmental needs. However, the caller didn’t say that the boyfriend said she couldn’t tell her friends that he had a family issue or that he helped her with her car before. Also, if a bunch of people were hanging up on me, I would want to leave to. This sounds more like her own issues with confronting people.

First off- I absolutely love this podcast, I watch it all the time! Dos- We need more Sam!! ❤️ C- Redhead here and the term fire-crotch is offensive. We don’t want people making fun of us, while also sexualizing us. That’s just humiliating and derogatory. Haven’t heard it in years but to each their own though. It’d be different if you’re joking with a close friend, so of course context matters, but any other time- just unlearn the term. Also, I’m not coming after anyone, just offering perspective. 🫶🏻
