I have owned both the apex and the Stratos.. And I can promise you that the stratos outperforms the apex on carpets. Even tho the apex had stiff bristles, it was AWFUL at getting deep down into carpets which is the reason I returned it. Now that I own the Stratos, I can easily say that it is the best shark duo clean for getting that deep down dirt from carpet.. But if you need a vacuum strictly for getting sand out of carpet, I would avoid duo clean entirely.

But I will say, shark is getting lazy. They should have kept the light on the handle like the did for the apex. And they should have kept that door on the floor head to remove blockages. And the thing I'm most worried about is the power fins wearing down after several years of use. Shark is dumb for not making their brush rolls replaceable.

​@@gus6404 ... The Stratos has a door on the bottom of the head to remove any possible blockages. The vacuum community is so tribal it hurts.

So what’s your favorite vacuum for this same price? I just bought this and I’m fairly pleased, but willing to explore other options. I want something with good attachments and good floor cleaning capabilities as well, I also like the lift away function.

Dyson Ball Animal 3. Or if you're deadset on a Shark with a soft roller, the older Vertex is much better than this Stratos. But the Dyson is the best of the 3

@todd4019 it cleans carpets much better, it cleans bare floors slightly better, it's more reliable, its less heavy in the hand, the hose is less awkward to use, the attachments are better, filtration is better, and it's quieter. It's better in literally every way. And I know, I've had both machines for a year and a half. The Dyson is the far better vacuum, the shark is terrible. At some point I'll do a proper video comparing the two if you want to see a more in depth analysis. Edit: also has a longer cord

@@IntellitechStudios so far, the only thing I don’t like about my Stratos is that the vacuum lines it makes are hardly visible, I have an old Hoover and it leaves really nice lines, makes me think it’s not deep cleaning well bc it doesn’t have bristles on the roller, otherwise I like it! Maybe that’s a reason to get the Vertex, better cleaning due to bristles?

A straight suction canister will be your best bet. Simplicity Jill or Meile C1 are both great choices.

I love my Shark. For the price you can't beat it. You act like you bought a Kirby. For 300. 400. It's a very good vac.

You can certainly beat it for the price, both with other brands like dyson and sebo, or even within sharks own lineup. But by all means, just because I dont like mine doesn't mean you can't like yours. Enjoy your Stratos!

How long is the hose on the Stratos compared to the hose on the Apex? Also, it doesn't sound like you're too happy with several aspects of the product. Return it and buy something else.

It's longer than the Apex Zero-M but not quite as long as the original Apex had when it first came out. I can assure you had I paid full price for it I'd have returned it. But I will hold onto it for now. My favorite part of this machine is the bare floor performance, so it's been my go to vacuum for my kitchen/hallway, meanwhile I've stuck with either my Ball Animal 3 or Sanitare SL4110A for my carpets

@@IntellitechStudios I should have been more specific. The charts online say the Apex had a 5.5 foot hose, and that the Stratos has a 2.95 foot hose. That is a significant difference in length (46% shorter), and would make some (including myself) consider not buying the Stratos. It would make it that much more difficult to clean around the house using the lift-off feature, considering how stiff and short the hose probably is.

You don't know how to vacuum. You only did one pass on picking up the shredded paper and potato flakes before doing your assessment.
