Dissecting an Engine, The Basic Parts and Their Function - EricTheCarGuy
www.ericthecarguy.com/
I've had more than one request for this and since I had a few hours while sitting on my butt waiting for my Dodge engine to show up I thought I would fill the time by making this video for you. I have to say that after the first edit I wasn't too happy and went back and reshot not once but twice and even then I still felt I didn't cover it the way I liked. I should really start scripting these videos, it would make my life soo much easier. Anyway don't be too rough on me if you have differing opinions as I'm willing to accept them in the comments if you are nice about it but if your going to tear me a new one then please make a video of your own explaining why as at least then we will be on the same playing field.

My internet bill is a lot cheaper than a year's worth of tuition from my public university. Sometimes I wonder why I even attend school when I've learned an insanely higher amount of knowledge from people like this guy on KZbin. This video he likely didn't want to create, but did, has made a huge impact on my ability to understand the components of a modern engine. This guy cannot be thanked enough.

It blows my mind that once upon a time a group of people somehow decided to add these tiny pieces of metal and physics to create an engine. The thought process into building one today seems simple but for people to actually make one of these for the first time ever is one of the greatest feats of knowledge mankind has ever witnessed. Amazing.

My dad was no mechanic, but he still used to fix the car. I remember it often being a horrible experience with him working late evenings and even shouting at the car from frustration. It completely scared me away from cars in general and mechanic work in particular. It seemed like hell. Wish he could have had these videos and internet to help. It was before the time of 56k modem internet. Just for the record, it was either a 1985 Volkswagen Passat or a 1990 Toyota Corolla 4WD he was working on =)

OMG thank you so much for explaining this in an easy to understand format without dumbing it down too much. I was married to a mechanic for 9 years and never learned a thing. He would start throwing out a bunch of car jargon without explaining how each part works and how they work together so I gave up and just let him fix the cars. So here I am trying to save money by doing stuff on my own and learning it from scratch. I just learned more in a 32 minute video than I did living with a mechanic for 9 years. Thank you so much! You have no idea how helpful your videos are. I subscribed to your page months ago when I replaced my brakes (successfully) and I always come away understanding my cars a lot better.

Hey teach. Im 40 years old and really got nothing to show for. Just recently started taking an interest in learning about auto tech because I got tired of getting screwed at the shops. I really want to say thanks for making this content to teach an amateur like me the basics. May God bless you and reward you in this life and the next.

Dont ever stop what your doing Eric, your one of the most easy to understand, informative channels on this platform. Not only that but you've been here for as long as I can remember and for as far as I can see, haven't sold out to those get rich quick marketing scams that have absolutely destroyed KZbin.

You're doing the world a huge favor!! Being that we all drive cars, we should all know at least the basic parts and principles on how they work. Some people don't really care because they can just take it into someone who does know about them, but for me, I'd rather save money by having the knowledge.

You have left to mention about the water jackets on the engine block, but i have seen that. This is also a very important aspect in learning the basics of the engine working components.

Really like the whole series that you've put out. The dad's truck series was really appreciated, because it directly addresses my current project albeit a suburban instead of the pick up truck being a donor of most everything I'm swapping. The pick up is suffering from PA weather ravages but has had so much mechanical tlc that it would be a crime to scrap.

i have to say i am a huge fan, man. Been watching your videos sparatically for the last couple years. But this past week i was out of work for 5 days dues to a surgery and ive been watching your videos all day and night. You've got a ton of knowledge and a great way of explaining things to the layman that really cuts through more than most of the other channels out there. I just bought my daughter a 2004 honda accord sedan and am going to be pimping it out a bit for her this spring. You have totally inspired me to make a video series on her car upgrade process. I'll be sure to link you in every video i make in my makeshift mini series . Going to be tearing out the interior, kilmatting everything, replacing speakers, adding some budget powered subs, maybe some interior lighting, new headlights, light painting on the trunk, new rims and tires, as well as a full tune up of the engine, valve adjustment, fluid flushes, etc and a full engine bay detail. spring cant come quick enough. Super excited. Thanks to you for the push forward in the project.
