That was a great interpretation of tango's heartbeat system. I like that you used a resource pack to replace the custom music disc datapack/mod hermitcraft uses. You would have to go through months of livestreams to learn this, but tango actually used the hopper locking to his advantage, rather than working around it and fiddling with timings. The hopper below is only locked while the disc is playing, so tango just made the 2 players overlap - as long as the first disc is done playing in time to reload it, everything works out in the end

It's not impossible vannilla addition of hopper-jukebox compatibility still is used in Decked out, because the custom Music Disks are themselves a mod I'm pretty sure, so could just be a much shorter "playing time" of the disk. I know for certain it also allows the disks to have the distance they can be heard from adjusted, it's probably the "AudioPlayer" mod from just searching and context clues.

The asymetry of your system might be due to the piston pushing and pulling the redstone block: when it pushes the block, it immediatly turns off the left signal, then it activates the right signal, then it retracts. When it pulls the block, it first extends (without any impact on the signals), then it turns off the right signal, and finally it turns on the left signal. This means the right signal is activated longer than the left signal. I can think of multiple solutions, I don't know which one is better: -extend the left signal -take only the right signal, split it in two, and invert one of those two (you might need to add a bit of delay on the uninverted signal for perfect synchronisation) -use two pistons which both pull and push a redstone block, but make it so they always produce opposite signals

Encountered this myself once where the piston pushing caused a trapdoor to instantly close while the other one took the 2 ticks to open. That's probs because the block is instantly turned into a moving block entity before actually being moved by the piston...

Very interesting video. Tango’s heartbeat is also a bit uneven when it gets close to and at full clank. Someone commented on it in a livestream and he said he liked it. Personally I do too. Heartbeats are not perfectly rhythmic either. Ironically in real life your heartbeat gets more regular when you are stressed out but the irregularity feels more chaotic and scary IMO.

This may be late, but perhaps the reason the heartbeats are playing at different rates is because of the position of the records in the dropper/hopper chains? If the records aren't both in the same, let's say, top dropper, then it cycles through at different times.

I think an easier solution would be to take a redstobe output from the jukebox and unlock the hopper minecart with a delay... That way do both sides have the same delays for unlocking.

I’ve encountered the glitch at 5:06 before by spam clicking a jukebox, or I think inserting a disc at the same time one comes out. I like to troll my friends by getting every disc and then playing them all at once. With this method it won’t go away until you log out. Even if you break the jukebox. It’s so weird. I honestly hope they don’t remove it

it seems like your heartbeat contraption is either locational or rotational (or non mirrorable). Im pretty sure its the latter as entities sometimes behave very differently when rotated.

Since you alternate jukeboxes I don't think the hopper minecart setup is needed. It's fine for the jukebox to lock the hopper during the next pulse, since the other jukebox would be used instead. You could use the signal from the jukebox as a toggle that forwards the pulse to the next unit.

You can never have a hopper directly under a jukebox, because as long as there's a disc inside it, the hopper will be permanently locked

But doesn’t it stop powering when it is done playing? If the audio is short enough, it should still work like it does for Tango. For me this was the case.

I think the reason why it's being inconsistent has to do with how activator rails power hopper minecarts. I'm pretty sure that there is entity/location dependent delay on the update, so there's a small, arbitrary delay to when the hopper minecart activates. I can't find sources on the exact mechanics of it, but it's something I've experienced myself in the past Edit: I'm checking the source code, and so far I can at least confirm that the hopper minecart code is super jank. The function to activate it takes in a boolean for the powered state, then does a logical not, then checks if that logical not is not equal to its current enabled state before then setting the enabled state. Like, what? I think it's meant to reflect how whether or not the minecart is "activated" is the inverse of whether or not the activator rail is activated, but it's just so unnecessarily convoluted Edit 2: Huh, hopper minecarts are meant to have a delay, but due to a bug in the code that ensures they suck out an item for each block they pass, they instead only pull items out at the right speed when at (0, 0, 0), because their previous position tracker is never updated from the default value. I found a mention of this in an existing bug report that is now marked as resolved as of 23w03a. It seems the devs just removed the cooldown feature altogether. Probably for the best considering how much the 8x speed boost of hopper minecarts is used Edit 3: Activator rails seem to have their own... Quirks... They use the same class as powered rails. Not like extending it, but the exact same, just with a single value to mark it as an activator rail instead of a powered rail. Super whack Edit 4: Well, after poking around for a while, I'm not seeing anything that would cause inconsistent delays. Maybe it was never really an issue to begin with. I mean, powered rails update instantly, and those are quite literally identical to activator rails code-wise Edit 5 (last edit I hope): I think the *real* reason why your setup is inconsistent is because the redstone powers the activator rail on one side before the jukebox gets the update it needs to start playing, but gets the update in the other order on the other side as a result of how the game handles updates within ticks, going in a specific pattern and direction. That means that the setup is directional, so building in one direction causes different behavior than another

I checked this myself. You had a small piece of misinformation. Hoppers drain the disk immediately after the audio is done. It looks like you haven’t noticed since you have been working with only longer discs.
