I am on the Island and we were told by neighbors that it was rumored that the family who owned the house before us (it was owned by at least 2 generations that I can find) had to be rescued by a boat through the kitchen window. I can’t even imagine.

The initial footage looks like 600/700 blocks of N. Erie, Huron and Front, Belle Isle area.

This was interesting to see. This flood also caused damage in the Pittsburgh area and there are films on You Tube you can see. Some of the buildings in Downtown Pittsburgh have marks as far as the water went up. My father remember going in a rowboat with my grandfather to the building where he office was to check it out. It was referred to as the St. Patrick's Day Flood because it happened on March 17. Now there are flood control dams and locks that greatly lower the possibility of terrible floods like this to ever happen again.

It takes something like that to happen to bring a town to gather everyone helping each other

There’s a photo of my grandfather and great uncle as boys living in Sand Hill. They’re shoveling snow. The caption on the back mentions the ‘36 flood. In my great grandmothers writing, she says the snow was just prior to the flood, it melting and creating ice jams caused the flood. She mentioned that two women drowned.

At the end of the film you see that "Studebaker" sign, must be on Water St.

Very very interesting footage. My home was built in 1936. Brick in Warwood. I often wonder what month, before or after the BIG ONE.

Such amazing footage! They didn't have chainsaws, large amounts of equipment, or Emergency Management or FEMA or anything.

If you have anything that you would like to put up like a little story on the dealership, it would be nice to have a guest story teller
