I remember that LP - found a copy in the budget bins back in the daze! 😵💫 Won't find it again for 19 cents, though!😞

I agree that if the album was like the first track, it would be a five star album. Thanks for sharing.

Once, a long time ago, I found this album in a record store (remember those?) that provided a turntable to test out their wares before buying. Finding the cover interesting, but having little money, I decided to play the album's shortest track, figuring that, if the band could impress me in under a minute, I'd give up my cash. "Hello" was cute, but didn't knock me out, so I put the record back. Hearing it in its entirety for the first time now, I'm kicking myself! If I had just played the record from the beginning, like anyone else would have done, I would have worn out the first track, which is simply exquisite! The rest of it is at least above average, with inventive side-trips into jazz and bluegrass. I should have said hello back a long time ago!

The cover alone should've impressed you! 😂 Yeah, quite a letdown to hear the 15 second bit & nothing more.

I've read a story about how the name came up, that was great

This one is here as well. As I've gone through with the potential for purging, this one has made the cut 2x now. I really dig the moody late night and wistful tones of this one. Most psych lps of this ilk have some dumb moments so I can look the other way here. The good stuff outweighs. I am actually looking for that George Stavis lp, will hopefully get it at some point. And nice filters and video intro there!

I made that short intro video on the bike back in 2019 & thought that song kind of fit the mood that evening.

I have heard the album and it reminded me of Ars Nova on Electra

So glad to see Federal Duck in the spotlight! Been one of my regular plays for a while now. It’s a goodie.

I think I loved it a lot more than usual back when I discovered it. But the highs are very good.

I tried a listen a while back and it didnt grab me. But that cover alone is worth having it for and if there's a couple good tracks im sold. I also have the Paper Garden reissue. Its great.

I read an interview w/ one of the creators of this album. He was extremely modest about it. But it's a good album.

Interesting. Is there a link? I'd like to read if possible.

@@PsycheDerek. It is an article in the Baltimore Sun, dated July 25, 2004, titled "After 35 years, the rock band Federal Duck waddles back to performance glory." Unfortunately this is behind a paywall, but if you have a library card you should be able to access it either at your library or online. Ask your librarian how you can access newspaper articles.

Derek, I am aware of this album, but have never heard it so it was good to get your take. It doesn't seem like many people are doing the major label releases included in the Acid Archives, other than Mazzy. It would have been interesting to hear your review of Bit 'A Sweet. I have another one in the queue, but Crazy Jimmy indicated that he was going to get around to Blue Mountain Eagle. We will wait and see. Thanks, Chris

There really isn't as much focus on major labels as there are self releases, of course. Maybe I can cover Bit 'A Sweet later on or something.
