@@tmcttf8087 Not really. It shows several times that he's not as happy-go-lucky as he pretends to be. For example, in the flash back when he runs away from Tantalus at 13 because he wants to find out who his is and if he has family (which is when he first meets Amarant in Treno though only Amarant remembers the meeting later). It shows that Zidane was really down over the matter of not knowing where he belongs. Or how whenever he's on his own when no one else is around he actually seems to have heavy thoughts filled with duty, guilt, and self-doubt. When other characters appear, he seems to brighten back up and seem more confident (showing us he's not actually comfortable with himself and may even be chronically lonely. He needs people's presence to comfort him, even if it's hostile company like Steiner's in the cursed woods). That's also why he's such a flirt. He craves attention and company to fill that void in him. Zidane's character is always more confident when he feels he's needed--which is why it hits him so much to find out that Kuja is his older brother and that he was designed to be the "death angle" meant to destroy all of Gia. He really falls into a dark place there, feeling his own existence is problematic (and again he needs others to help pull him out of it). But since Zidane is accustomed to internal conflict, he's able to understand and empathize with the other characters and even comfort them--starting initially with Vivi and going so far as comforting Kuja in the end. Zidane only acts light-hearted. It's how he copes with strong emotions--which is what makes it so sweet in Terra when the others realize how much he's struggling emotionally and come to his aid. Wow. This is making me want to play the game again...

He cursed regularly and was quite mature for his age, having learned street smarts and gaining wisdom through his adventures in life. Idk he just came across a lot more mature to me in FFIX. Júlio Costa His tonality can be different regardless of age. His demeanor in FF9 (often more experienced and ‘cool’) doesn’t match his Dissidia voice imo. I just would love it if they put Garnet in as well. I know she is summon based, but maybe they can give her the strongest summons to balance things out (since she can only perform white magic), and upgrade her white magic skills. That voice doesn't fit Zidane (well, at least not the Zidane that appeared in the original FF9 games). In the original games, he was average height (and taller compared to many other average characters), was a charmer who had a lot of "lady friends" (which was part of what frustrated him about working so hard to charm Garnet who he *actually* liked), and while he was fun-loving, more or less he was only pretending to be goofy and immature most of the time because it was a mask. He was actually a little mature beyond his years because of who (and what) he actually was. The voice they have here doesn't fit that. Dissdia has him REALLY short (for example, look how tall Vaan is despite only being 1 year older. That would mean most from Zidane's universe are comically short compared to the other FF universes--which I guess could be a strangely specific trait). In the game, he makes a lot of careless mistakes because he always rushes ahead without thinking, and talks like one of those comic relief side-kick friends who is girl crazy but always strikes out. So, I guess the voice fits as he appears here. It just doesn't fit the version of him from the original. Heck, even Vaan's voice actor would have fit better. (Actually, almost any other. I'm not really a fan of this voice actor's dubbing work as a whole. His voice is often very... shrill). That's just not the same character as in FF9. I'm not sure if the developers of Dissidia ever played the original game based on how he appears here.

Dissidia NT's Zidane voice actor totally missed the mark for me. I know he can be a snarky character but I felt it was lazy to give him a snarky, sort of whiny voice. I'd imagine a bit more gruff out of his voice given that he's a bar going bandit LOL. Not a DEEP voice necessarily but something not comical. For Zidane's character development having a more mid-range level voice would allow him to sound more genuine in both comical AND existentially serious moments. Maybe throw in a city peasant like accent that he shares with Tantalus hammering home his upbringing with them! The voice actor did a great job for some Anime protagonist don't get me wrong it's just there are no real notes in the voice that encapsulate Zidane hear outside of the snarky side.
