As I say, blessed are the Misunderstood for they know real suffering and will have a major influence on the world one way or another. I love how VIII fans say this, and then the die-hard VII fans see that moment in KHII and _still_ talk about Squall negatively. Meanwhile, it's one of my all-time favorite gaming moments because, despite being purely fanservice since they had never talked at any other point in the KH series, they finally fight, side-by-side, like the powerhouses they are! Even when SE tries to put them both in a positive light, and on equal terms, people _still_ deign to speak poorly of a character. I like both Squall and Cloud, honestly, and wish they could somehow team up _outside_ of an FF game. And Dissidia doesn't count -- I'm talking canonically, _just_ Squall and Cloud, so both characters could play to each other's strengths and show their true potential. I'm sorry if I sound like a "fanboy", but I'm sick of the bias. I don't know why more FF fans can't be this civil...

@CheesyGranola Squall then says in his next line (I think) "I don't want to carry anyone's burden", Squall is the type that deals with his problems alone if it is possible, without being lazy and pushing them on others, and believes everyone should do the same. Such things are not only in character for Squall, but benefical to both himself and others. Squall looked like a jerk, not because he did anything bad, but because he did what most wouldn't have done, in other words, the smart thing.

I'll forever bemoan how much the English translation of Final Fantasy VIII was botched. They turned Squall from an entertainingly snarky prick into an angsty whiner. So glad I have the Steam version so I can just play it in French where they represented this a little better.

In Spanish he is like you said😂😂 is a little sacarstic man specially in his mind (just like me). At the beggining is a complete jerk cause the game doesn't want to like Squall but he change since he meet Rinoa and is getting more nice and open so you can see the Squall from the beggining to the middle or end of the game and you can see the change better (they did the same thing with Neku Sakuraba and that character is very loved by the community of his game). Also the Spanish translation if you ignore some bad translation of a few words and some Spanish expressions, the game is too well translated (also i like the games ho all is text and the translators put expression from the country in this example Spain, it makes feel the player immersive with the game)

@CheesyGranola Squall has never been a jerk, he's just more of a strong, sensible, and practical human being than most real people are. What makes him a jerk in most people's eyes is that unlike them, Squall doesn't need the support of others, he's strong enough mentally and physically to get by easily enough without them. Squall doesn't interact well with others because he doesn't NEED to interact with others, as such other people can only be a impediment to his well being, not a help.
